I'll make it special:
I have a folder of bookmarks on topics I have meant to blog about, but never got around to do. Today is no difference. I'm still at work now (6:15pm GMT+1) waiting for a meeting to start, and then afterwards it's my time to do what EspenAO does every Friday. But there has been one post I really wanted to get down right, and the more I have thought about how to make it a good post with all the right ingredients, the easier it is to put on hold while thinking about it some more. Yes I am the king of procrastination.
Semi-live blogging got to be the way:
During my summer vacation I went to Switzerland and Italy to meet old friends and co-workers. One of my friends had just started on his PhD at CERN, and I joined him on one of his night shifts. I tried to blog about what happened every hour, but it was a lot more stressful than I would have expected. You are supposed to do so much in between, so much information, and then get it down in letters, before it is off to learn more, and I never had that 5min break sitting back enjoying everything around me, but I was quite happy with the result, at least on the content. So I will try to do something similar this week. I will update the post once a day, for as long as I am the member of the week.
Why not write a book while you are at it:
I don't think I am book material, but if you think about it, there is quite a lot of stuff happening in just one week’s time. And I have a few personal things I like to share as well. Looking at my about page, you won't get too much information, but this week I will do something about it. MizzMartinez also did tag me quite a while ago, and I have meant to get that done as well. But it just kept on getting pushed back. This is the week I'll get it all done.
Is this camera on:
I also have a couple of pictures I have wanted to take, and post them here. One of them I was supposed to do in December (no more hints), and during this week, I'll promise I will get them up for sure. So if you want to know more about me than the fact that my spelling is worse in Norwegian, English as well as French than in C++, this is the right time. I declare it "my weekend of truth". Thanks a lot MyOpera and Espen for noticing me. Next update will be some time tomorrow.
Sunday:
So Saturday passed, and I didn't even manage to get home. Luckily there are Sunday's every week. I didn't have the time to pull off half of what I had expected, but I tried hard. On the about page there is at least some new information, bu I had to take the new layout more or less down again because it was too half done. The whole experience reminded me about why I never design or draw anymore. I could not draw anything but stick figures even if my life depended upon it. But I think it should be ready enough tomorrow to throw out there.
When I am on the topic, I made this red ribbon [look up there] to decorate the post. Next week there will be a new Member of the week, and I was thinking about passing it on in the comment section for the next one. God idea? Maybe, or just dumb. Not sure yet, but why not just cross your fingers, it can be anyone of you next time :)
Just a few questions to through out there before I go catch some sleep. Many have sent me private messages asking about all sorts of stuff. And one thing people keep asking about is how to theme their blog. It's a really big topic, so it is not possible to write about it all, so I am wondering "What is it you want to learn the most?"
And question number two. Why does so many people make wallpapers for PC, but no one for cellphones? I'll think I should try to make one before the week is over. Then again, I can't draw :p Lets see how that works out.
Monday:
I got hefted at work, and came home late again, and now I am getting worried if I am going to be able to finish anything this week. I had to take a break from the design of my profile page again. I never get happy with the result. It would take me ages to finish anything as long as I am responsible for the design I guess. But luckily I am not close to the drawing board at work nor at the University so I tend to finish project in time there.
Where was I. Yeah a break from the design. So I wanted to do something fun, but believe it or not, I am not done with that side project either. But I'll post it here anyway. Just lick on the image to view it in full size. I present to you, MyOpera 2.0 Magazine :p I need some sleep now. And hope I get some more time for fun tomorrow.
Wednsday:
There has been a lot of talk about Dragonfly lately in the Opera community (and I guess outside of the community as well. So I figured since tried teach my self Inkscape the other day while doing that cover magazine why not try to draw something from the ground up. So I set out to find a picture I could use as a base, and I found some really beautiful pictures in Andy Wilsons blog. But it didn't take me long to see that I was never going to be able to draw the beauty of the natures in SVG.
I have also been corrected once for all that I can't cook, well make that everyone from Norway. What I thought looked very Italian :p seems to be further from the truth than I could hope for. Here in Norway we are not very well known for food recipes. And I never think we will. But I am having fun following the discussion to those who know what they are doing.
End of week:
This week has been exiting in more than one way. But most important it has made me realize a few things I have refused to believe up until now. Not one single week has passed since forever without my family, friends or girlfriend complaining about how I divide my time up between them and work. I have always told them I know my time is stretched but I do as best as I can. But looking back at this week made me realize that maybe it's time to look over my agenda and maybe cut back on things that is less important to me to be able to spend more time on what is more important to me.
I started off this week pretty cocky telling about all those tings I was supposed to get done before the week was over. And BOOM, suddenly a week has passed, and I am not half done with most of them. It made me realize how few evenings I spend at home during a week, and how few days I really do spend with friends and family. And I don't even want to start thinking about that poor girl I might one day marry.
Something has to be done. I don't know what yet, but it can't go on like this much more with everyone complaining, and me feeling stretched in between. There must be something I spend my time on that is less important to me than my family and friends and I need to sit back and find out what.
Now my time as MOTW is over, and I am sure Espen will find someone else at least as interesting as me for the next one. I wish the next one good luck and hope you get as many new friends as I did, and at least as many kind words in your comments, and in private messages and any other way they can find to reach you. I will struggle further to finish what I have started, and I will stick around for this fine community with the best members I have ever met in a community.

Yeah, discovering the fun in making jokes about my strong sides as well as my weak sides is probably the best that ever happened to me. I can't understand how I got by when I was younger getting mad at amusing jokes just because I was on the receiving end of the table...

Sure, I can't be worse in Russian than drawing, so why not. Or you could just give me your skills for Christmas please
Maybe that is what you should have called me all this time. Maybe you would have gotten it right then
@ResearchWizard:
Where have you been all this time. I thought you had left us for good :/ Nice to have you back

thanks for your warm words - it's a pity I don't have time for beloved Opera, while it's very lucky that the reason is a very interesting job as product manager (sadly not at Opera). It is crazyly intense in time consuming. I still have an eye on my friends from time to time and it was really great to see you as member of the week
I'll be back some day, it already has been much too long ...

"Cod has been an important economic commodity in an international market since the Viking period (around 800 AD). Norwegians used dried cod during their travels and soon a dried cod market developed in southern Europe. This market has lasted for more than 1000 years, passing through periods of Black Death, wars and other crises and still is an important Norwegian fish trade"
One suggestion: the basic of italian cooking is pasta. To make pasta you can put almost anything over it (without mixing sweet and salted or sweet and bitter/acid like it is common up to the north) BUT you need to know when take it away from the water, also known as "al dente". It must be still a little hard to chew, not gelatine-like. Overcooked pasta is the worst mistake possible in Italy.

Yeah, Italy and Spain (or more precisely Catalania) buy quite a bit of our cod, and in general a lot of fish from us. Japan is one of our biggest export destinations too when it comes to fish.
I didn't know you where a good cook Lorenzo, maybe you should jump over to the "Italians Do It (lunch) Better" blog and help them out

BTW, in italian it is "stoccafisso", "stokkfisk" (norwegian), "stocvisch" (hollander), "stockfish" (english).
The salted cod instead in Italy is called "baccala" and it seems to come from the basque area of Spain.
It is another story like the flag of England being actually the flag of the genoan fleet.
I am not a good cook, actually I don't like to cook. But every italian can arrange some basic meal. Pasta is fast food since it takes 10 minutes to cook it and you can add whatever you have got in the fridge. One of the easiest recipe is "aglio e olio" (garlic and oil), you simply fry some garlic in a pan with oil and put it over pasta with cheese on top. Or the "carbonara", you fry some bacon in little pieces and then add it to the pasta together with the yellow of en egg and cheese again.

Cream/butter/cheese is used instead in the northern cooking, which does not include fish but mostly vegetables and meat. Since norhtern Italy was originally a celt land and then was occupied by germans tribes, there is a strong tradition of cooking with pork meat.
Then, you should know in the northern italian cooking rice is used instead of pasta and my favourite is rice with mushrooms.

Another important thing is in the north "pasta" traditionally means "fresh pasta", which is more ancient than the dry one. "fresh pasta" is made mixing flour, eggs and water, then reduced in a thiny foil and cut in stripes or in little pieces to make "ravioli".
