Wii Component Cable Deal

, , , , , , , ,

After posting the bitGenerations post below, I was doing some additional shopping and found a sweet deal: 3rd party Wii Component Cables for $9.99!? and only $3.40 shipping. So for under $14 US you can score some component goodness. While these do not appear to have gold contacts, they still earned :star::star::star::star::star:'s from all 36 reviewers.

Loyal readers may remember when I got mine from Nintendo (for $40:left: ); the difference is better in all games I own, Virtual Console games even appear richer (thanks to the progressive scan and no interlaced black lines).

I'm glad I ordered mine when I did, having them last month was worth the extra $26+, but for those of you worried about price, there is no excuse now. Ha, it's like getting a bitGenerations game free, :insane: now I'm not so happy.

And Nick, if you're reading this, you should return your $60 component cables from Best Buy.

did the reviewers seem like real shoppers or 'planted seeds'?

I did a little research on who was buying and found that these cables have been the [no contest] top selling item on PlayAsia for over a month, so out of tens of thousands of customers who purchased them, if there was going to be a bad review I suppose at least one of them would have spoken up, so they appear to be the real deal.

Honestly though, even the most basic component cables are better than the best RCA (composite) cables. For those unaware, simply put Component cables split the single video signal into 3 seperate colors, so there are 3 feeds of information for video that travel independently from the Wii to the TV, never mixing or getting "muddled". So even if they don't know what they are talking about in their reviews they were more than likely impressed with the visual difference and really that's all these cables are about.

also if you have a progressive scan TV, this will allow you to take advantage of that setting, which offers a sharper picture over the standard of an interlaced signal (which to me looks like a screen door on your image compared to progressive scan).

I placed an order yesterday for them. I'll drop a review in this thread when I get them for my 32" 720p LCD TV (Widescreen of course).

This is "Xoder" again. Just played some Zelda, some Internet Channel, and some general futzing about. I've noticed a distinct increase in the sharpness and readability of text (especially noticeable for text within each channel in the main screen). Un-zoomed-in web pages are nearly readable at 7 feet away.

nice, it seems the positive reviews ring true.

I know that cable will be a step up fron composite cables, but what about its quality compared to Nintendo's first party cable?

the main benefit is that the video is split into 3 seperate signals with component. the only difference i can tell, is that the contacts are not gold, which helps with signal loss if that is a problem.

I have the nintendo ones, but I paid 40 for them. I would have rather paid 10, but i did get mine early... so it was a trade off...

a few people had bought these, and comented that the quality is excellent. i think it's just a matter of how much money a person is willing to drop on them. no matter what, any component will look much better than the best regular composite, so for 10$, it's a deal.
