300 + Challenge

, , , , , , , , ,

You know, yesterday I was thinking I should issue a challenge. To see if we could get 8 new members to bring us up to 300 by today. I didn't, and we hit the number anyway. Check out our Member List to see the latest N+ Members (hint: with the exception of the moderators on the first page, people are on the list in the order they joined). We've grown steadily over the months and have built an excellent community, active forums, a sexy blog, and kicky sweet content from our well informed members. Other sites are linking to us every day, so far we've been featured in over 110 blogs and over 22 gaming websites.

This got me thinking. I should issue a challenge to our 300 Members. A challenge against incredible odds...
I tried to think of something fun, rewarding, and kind of tough. Something that we can work together on. So here it is: Kill like a hundred thousand Persians.

Ha, no seriously... Lets try to get 500 N+ Members by the time Opera releases the Final Version of the Opera Browser for Wii, set for late March. Wha?! Don't worry, it's not nearly as difficult as killing 100,000 soldiers, but it's going to be tough. By working together, bringing in friends, brothers/sisters/cousins/coworkers/etc., promoting on our other personal sites with banners and links, spreading the word on N+ through message boards and other community sites, and spotlighting this blog (by clicking the spotlight link at the very top of the page) I am confident we can reach this number.

But Ed, you said this was going to be rewarding! Ah... well, it's hard to reward all 300 of you, some will undoubtedly work much harder than others, and many of the additional 200 will put in a great deal of effort as well. So I will proclaim the first 500 as N+ Founders. There will be a link in the Side Bar that will be a page that has all 500 of you named, honored, and of course, a link to your my.opera page. For those putting in even more effort, I will arrange something a little better, perhaps some Opera or Nintendo goodies (I have some stuff floating around here), and maybe we'll find out that we've got a future moderator in the ranks that we didn't even know about. This is your opportunity to really step it up and show us your support. So to see who is working the hardest, you can have the members you bring in leave a comment here letting everyone know who showed them the N+.

Hi, I just joined my.opera for this event, and every time I hit the "Join this Group" button I go to http://my.opera.com/Nplus/blog/2007/02/addmember.pl?loc=join&x=64&y=16 which tells me that it is a 404 page. Any ideas?

I use Firefox on WinXP here at work.

.edDotEd Wednesday, February 7, 2007 6:55:04 PM

looking into it now... i will update.

Update: I tried the link (after logging out) and had no problems, I know it's corny to say this, but it may be your browser. The Join Group link worked fine for me using Opera 9.1 and IE 7 on WinXP Pro.

Try refreshing, or clearing Firefox's cache, closing the browser, etc.

Also thanks for joining! - Any efforts towards recruitment will be much appreciated!

.ed,

Thanks for the advice, however switching to IE 6 (no 7 on this machine yet) did not fix it. However, I rolled, undaunted, through the about page and tried the join link on: http://my.opera.com/Nplus/about/ which, as you may be able to see, worked.

Ericairman360 Wednesday, February 7, 2007 8:41:50 PM

So I will be a founder?? COOL!!!

Dustin WilsonKhadgar Wednesday, February 7, 2007 9:23:23 PM

And here I was when I first saw this post that I was going to get some free stuff for being one of the eight that put the member numbers over 300...

I don't know why I didn't sign up earlier, though. I was a member of the Wii group that merged with this one, so I thought well I might as well join... been reading the newsfeed for ages.

Also I'd love to kill you .Ed... I was trying to keep myself from buying a Wii game so I can save my money and you haul off and mention Prince of Persia: Rival Swords for Wii last month. I never knew Ubisoft was going to do it for the Wii. I quit playing Two Thrones because the controls stunk. You're dead for making me go broke... DEAD! bigsmile Just joking.

Maybe it can calm me until Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. come out... maybe.

.edDotEd Wednesday, February 7, 2007 9:47:20 PM

So cool.

AntonCaptainSeagull Wednesday, February 7, 2007 9:57:35 PM

All of these people can be collectively called "The Foundery" !

Yeah!

Also if we can somehow get things together I can make some kicky-sweet exclusive N+ design T,shirts! maybee using the DK, Para Troopa, and Super Mushroom!? eh!?

FB xxfluffybunny Wednesday, February 7, 2007 10:02:23 PM

Let's go for it! You want a mention on Best Damn Tech?

.edDotEd Wednesday, February 7, 2007 10:03:49 PM

Geoff GirardinG-off Wednesday, February 7, 2007 10:30:08 PM

So I'm in the founder area? Wow. I am excited.

Anton. T-Shirts would make my life.

BeckyBeeks Thursday, February 8, 2007 2:41:19 AM

I think I can do some serious recruiting via the Nintendo Wii groups on Facebook!

AntonCaptainSeagull Thursday, February 8, 2007 5:11:53 AM

This is Totaly on!

FB xxfluffybunny Thursday, February 8, 2007 11:11:07 AM

FB xx

Ericairman360 Thursday, February 8, 2007 12:18:50 PM

I just can't imagine how I would amount to anything, now I'm going to become a founder!

RamūnasRamunas Saturday, February 10, 2007 11:07:16 AM

Just after reading this I noticed that I still haven't joined the group sad

Chris Spratlinmindseye04 Tuesday, February 13, 2007 2:25:12 AM

Add me into the fold...I just got my Wii 3 days ago and am slowly discovering everything there is to offer...don't know anyone personally with a Wii just yet but I'll do what I can to spread the word....and knife a persian or 2 while I am at it...

▇▇▇▇▇▇Travis1988 Thursday, February 15, 2007 10:09:10 PM

i want to join.

pecka Friday, February 16, 2007 8:59:40 PM

i just joined, hope it will help you to meet the 500 soon

.edDotEd Friday, February 16, 2007 9:58:48 PM

Thanks! spreading the word to close friends is probably the best type of help one can offer, that way when they also join, you and your friends have Opera profiles and blogs to share with each other as well.

then it spreads from them too... like Zombievirus!

yeeliberto Friday, February 16, 2007 11:21:26 PM

joined. A lot of time that I followed this page but I don't know why I didn't join from the beginig. I am a member of Opera community since the same month that N+ started.

.edDotEd Friday, February 16, 2007 11:36:25 PM

it seems like there are many who've been reading but had not joined. this was a suspicion of mind because our members are in the hundreds but our visits are in the hundred thousands. we really appreciate everyone that has joined recently and shown thier support by inviting friends. thanks!

pecka Saturday, February 17, 2007 4:43:29 PM

Maybe if Opera offers free update of the browser for members, you'll see numbers skyrocketing bigsmile

.edDotEd Saturday, February 17, 2007 11:17:52 PM

it IS free already!

I've been reading the N+ since the Wii browser came out, it had never occured to me to join. But now I've joined and all I can say is... Go N+!!!!!!

Lynge Nørgård PallesenLynge Monday, February 26, 2007 10:19:27 PM

Seriously... If all people got the same problems with joining the group you will get a lot of troubles with getting new Wii'ers join'ing....

I tried with Firefox IE and Opera and nothing worked i only got the message 404 - something with monkeys

only when i got this link: http://my.opera.com/Nplus/about/ -thanks to xonder i could join...

seaempty Tuesday, February 27, 2007 7:11:26 AM

Thanks for letting us know Lynge - we'll get the links looked into.

.edDotEd Friday, March 2, 2007 6:23:20 AM

.edDotEd Wednesday, March 7, 2007 6:27:56 AM

hahah that's awesome.

Dark FurieFurie Thursday, March 8, 2007 12:52:57 AM

I had a problem with the Join button as well. If your browser allows you to click "more" just under the button, do it. The page will expand and the new button will work. By the way, I'm using mini opera on my cell, so Wii users and PC owners should have it easier, yeah?

yeeliberto Wednesday, March 14, 2007 2:49:52 PM

yeah, 508 member to this moment
