NiGHTS 2: Not 2?

So, JeuxFrance has got a butt-load of magazine-scanned screenshots of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. I highly recommend checking them out, as they do reveal level structure a little more. I espessially like NiGHTS' updated costume. What is interesting though is that Jeuxfrance seems to believe that this game is NOT a sequal, and in fact a remake. I actually could care less, I am pumped either way. I LOVED the original so a remake would sit well. I LOVED the original, so a sequal would sit well. - I still think it's a sequal though, the interview dropped to many "new"s in discussion for me.

Translation of the Jeuxfrance article reads:

Sega releases images of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams on Wii in the Swedish magazine Game Reactor. The player will play as NiGHTS again in what seems to be a remake of the original game (while including new content), and will use the Wii remote to control NiGHTS' acrobatics in the sky of Nightopia. The release is planned for this winter.

Update: We have provided additional images of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams taken from the Japanese magazine Famitsu.

So what do you guys and gals speculate? is this a remake or not? do you care? have you even played the original? pumped?

I've read an interview with the game's design team on one of the thousands of sites I scoured after finding out from you guys about this. They expressly said it's not a remake, I swear...

This site has a quote from the interview in Famitsu where they mention a new story, new levels and call it a sequel.

exactly! that's what I'm talkin about! I know this is a sequal, I just know it! thanks for the input furies!

lol@Furies I've put on a bit of weight recently but no need to treat me as a group. bigsmile Speaking of plurals, you put I loved the original so a sequel would sit well twice concurrently in that post.

haha no I put "remake" in the first, and "sequal" in the second.

and sorry about the furies thing, i did a quick glance at the avatar, oops! bigeyes haha!

Aha, I must've read it wrong. No problem with the avatar, I'm aiming for a Cheers effect.

Well, keep in mind it probably takes place in the same dream world, so a lot of the levels will (also probably) look similar to the ones in the original.

Dark FurieFurie Saturday, April 14, 2007 10:28:58 PM

Yep. We'll have themed levels. Probably some unlockable or hidden new realisations of the classic levels as well. With this long of a wait they'll have to put the original in somehow, even if it's just paying homage to the original's levels. I'm hoping for the full game though.

sequal, not remake, too much "new".

I like your new blog post banner style, Cap'n. But I kind of get the feeling that you've seen my blog before.

NiGHTS seems like it's going to be a great game.

New info - The UK Official Nintendo Magazine has a juicy bit of info on Nights 2. Not only will the game take advantage of the Wii remote, but they're adding a classic stick control system for hardcore fans of the original. bigsmile

DrLaunch: actually I havn't visited until just now, great ags by the way! I just thought I would give some kind of image before the page break, and the banners kind of just happened, I do think i will do it a lil more often though. I thought it was crazy how the last three of my posts were "name of game: somthing 2"
