Some interesting facts for you on a Saturday
- In the first quarter of 2007, the Wii has already notched over a million systems sold in America.
- Sales for the DS now stand just short of 1.25 million for the same period.
- Wii remains the fastest-selling new console in more than a decade, based on NPD sell-through information over the first five months of availability.
- So far this year, Nintendo has sold more video game systems than all other manufacturers combined.
The message delivered by both Wii and Nintendo DS is the same one. Innovation is compelling both current gamers and new gamers to experience a new way to play. Nintendo is bringing gaming back to the masses.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president, Nintendo of America.

Wii production is set to be increased as Nintendo are faced with unprecendted demand for the console. This demand looks set to continue with the release of Super Paper Mario, and the future release of Mario Party 8.
The DS should have a very good week this week, with the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl in the US tomorrow, which has already seen preorder sales figures top 500,000.
As a long-time Nintendo fan, it makes for very nice reading this morning!

I heard all kinds of remarks about the Wii. That it's gimmicky, is weak, not worthy as a next gen system and all sorts of things. But this was from "hardcore" gamers. A lot of them we're sure the Wii was going to be flop.
I'm glad their uninformed comments have been put to shame. Because even though the Wii is unconventional and Nintendo ran a certain risk because they made such a different gaming system, Nintendo might have done the most clever move in the history of game consoles ever. Now everyone, not only the "hardcore" gamers can enjoy the wonderful world of games. Wii is a games console for the mass market.
Still. I think Wii might please the classic core market too. It seems like in these days, all core-gamers want is awesome graphics for their games. It seems like they forget what's fun about games. What's really the satisfying part of gaming. Design is important. But the amount of polygons that can move simultaneously on a screen is not.
What games have always been about is fun. It's the playability. The ability to entertain you all the way. It's interactivity. The satisfaction of controlling what happens on the screen. Wii is just as much a system of this generation as its competition. Maybe even more.
The Wii brings realism to a level the competition haven't been able to. Not in the form of many polygons on a screen but in the form of interactivity. The Wii belongs on top of the games console market. And it has the potential to please most people.

It has really proven that great gameplay is far more important than über wtfhaxx0rz l33t graphics. Nice graphics is just a nice added bonus if it's present.
I'm confident though that Wii can produce very nice graphics...
Now all we need is SEGA to get back in the game with Dreamcast 2 or something and Playstation and Xbox to be pushed out of the market, then we're back in the good old gaming days before Playstation and Xbox!
Oh, and we need Grand Theft Auto IV on Wii too - then I'm happy!
