Nintendo Announces Massive Profit

Today Nintendo reported final consolidated fiscal year revenues of 966.5 billion yen and operating profits of 226.0 billion yen for the year ending March 31, 2007, an increase of 90 percent and 150 percent, respectively, over the same period one year ago. Both of these numbers are record highs for the company.

The reasons for this increase are:

  • Full-year sales of more than 23 million portable Nintendo DS™ systems globally
  • 123 million Nintendo DS games sold
  • 5.84 million Wii consoles sold
  • 29 million Wii games sold

Nintendo has also made some proections on how sales will go this coming financial year:

  • Projected sales of 14 million Wii systems
  • Projected sales of 55 million Wii games worldwide
  • Projected sales of 22 million Nintendo DS hardware units
  • Projected sales of 130 million DS software units
  • Consolidated sales increasing nearly 18 percent to 1.14 trillion yen, and operating profits growing nearly 20 percent to 270 billion yen.

Game consoles and games are Nintendo's core businesses. They've been earning money like crazy for many years now.

I bet Sony and Microsoft are really envious. After all they've been losing money because of their game consoles. p
