RW Teusday: Ecco the Dolphin (SGEN)

Every Monday Nintendo adds a few more games to their U.S. list of Virtual Console games. These games are downloadable from the Wii Shop Channel. The games come from a list consisting of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Turbo Graphix, and the Nintendo 64.
Every Tuesday N+ provides you with one "Retro Wiiview" of one game off of the list. The Retro Wiiview is designed to introduce young or new players to some of the "classics" that made gaming what it is today, while also providing a reminder to those who have already played these games, how much fun they really had. This way, whenever you want to download a new VC title, you can have at least one place to turn to see if it was good before you spend those Wii-Points. "Read More" for the review...
This weeks' game: Ecco the Dolphin
Game Price: 800 Wii points
ESRB Rating: E for Everyone
Ecco the Dolphin is a young little guy who is believed by the rest of his pod to be somthing special because of the five stars that are found on his head... what makes him special besides the markings has always been a mystery to the pod of dolphins...On one sunny day Ecco is challenged by another young dolphin to see how high he can jump from the water and into the air, so Ecco revs up his speed and flies high into the air - and gets stuck! All around him were water vortex's that were sucking all the water creatures into the air and far away. When Ecco is released back into the water he can't find any of his pod. Ecco begins his journey to save his pod.
Ecco will travel through time, find Atlantis, and run in with space creatures in different dimensions on his quest... quite a bit for a young dolphin to accomplish. You control Ecco the dolphin in a difficult adventure/puzzle game to finding out what happened to your pod, as well as returning them to their home. To accomplish the task, Ecco can sing to other marine life to learn what they know about certain area secrets, sing to mystical crystals that move under his influence or give helpful information.
Ecco must also fight sharks by ramming into them full speed or risk being bitten, he must also watch out for
jellyfish, and falling rocks in caves. Of coarse Ecco can still leap high into the air to overcome some obstructions, but while in certain caves he must also watch for falling rocks, and air pockets so that he may breath fresh air.Ecco is a very difficult game that I can remember beating with my cousin, but after days and days of trying. Ecco can also be a bit confusing at times, espessialy when learning how to control some crystals and defeat some jellyfish. N+ 7/10 While very difficult to learn, once mastered Ecco becomes a classic that you
will remember for years to come, and is a true landmark in video gaming history. It may not be the best game on the VC, but it is one of the most dedicated efforts game designers have ever released.Cost: 800 Wii points
