Ahhhh the school list. Are you ready for back to school? If you forgot to throw that last bit of necessary gear into your bookbag then read on! N+ Moderators have teamed up to bring you their personal checklist of 5 "Back 2 Scool" must have games...

Captain Seagull's List
  • DS: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Now you can catch 'em all by trading with all your new friends during your school break, beat other kids by the flagpole after school in some intense pokemon battles!
  • DS: Mario Kart - Recess was meant for Mario Kart races, and with the ability to use one game for 8 players at once only one person needs to supply the Karts!
  • DS: Animal Crossing - Share fruit, trade t-shirts, and meet new animals with all your new classmates! this is the perfect time to auction off that gold crown!
  • DS: Advance Wars: Dual Strike - Strategy, the cornerstone to surviving any day at school. Got an off hour? thats perfect time to progress through your campaign!
  • GBA: Super Mario World - Perfect for bus rides or train rides to school, you can beat a few levels and save before you make it to the doors. 15 minutes is all I need to beat the game from level 1 to Bowsers defeat, just about as much time as my ride... (can you beat Captains amazing 15 Minutes!?)
MK's List
  • DS: Mario Kart DS - My favorite Mario Kart. An interesting thing I discovered is that for Mario Kart DS, the Normal/Simple multiplayer modes can be INTERTWINED... so you can, for example, have 3 people with the game and 5 without the cart playing together. The advantage to this is that everyone who has their own cart doesn't have to be Shy Guy.
  • DS: Bleach : Blades of Fate- I have both of the Japanese versions, but the first Bleach DS is coming to Americaland. 4 player single-cart multiplayer for the BEST fighting game on the DS. Hands-down. Fans of the show will love it, fans of fighting games will love it more, and Treasure fans will love it the most. You know... Treasure? Gunstar Heroes? Dynamite Headdy? Trouble Makers? Ikaruga? Treasure? Gunstar Heroes? Dynamite Headdy? Trouble Makers? Ikaruga?
  • DS: Bomberman DS- The original Bomberman DS has the most customizable, fully featured 8 player-single-cart-multiplayer ever made. Plus, it's Bomberman. There's even a gameplay-mode where you can set it so your voice sets off the bombs. If you're loud enough, you'll set off your friends bombs, too. 8 players, two screens, hours and hours of fun. While the sequel is online, somehow Bombermanland Touch doesn't retain the Bomberman charm Bomberman DS did.
  • DS: Planet Puzzle League - The best puzzle game on the system, and it's my favorite next to Puyo Pop Fever. The daily mode is great for break-time, while the endless mode is perfect for trips. Whenever I have to wait for ANYTHING, I bust out Planet Puzzle League. My average game time on Endless mode is 25-35 minutes, and it only feels like 5 minutes passed me by. Great multiplayer, too.
  • DS: New Super Mario Bros. - Sure, the one player mode is great, fun, whatever. But it is the SINGLE-CART MULTIPLAYER that made New Super Mario Bros. my ultimate on-the-fly multiplayer experience. One of the quickest single-cart downloads results in my favorite multiplayer game next to Pac-Man Vs: The Mario vs. Luigi battle mode. First to howevermanystars wins. Hilarity and fun ensues. You can't touch me when I'm wearing the blue shell. Nothing can match the sheer panic of when your opponent gets a Mega Mushroom. NOTHING. NOTHING except for when your buddy gets a Power-Pellet in Pac-Man Vs. and starts chasing you. Oh, when Namco Museum DS comes out, it will have Pac-Man Vs. on it. Which is the best multiplayer game ever made.
Seaempty's List
  • DS: 42 All-Time Classics - 42 games in one cartridge! This is the only game you could possibly need at school. With a great variety of games available, from quick, fun games like Soda Shake, to a deep-thinking game of chess. If someone else has a copy you can use the Pictochat feature to talk during lessons. Ace!
  • DS: Elite Beat Agents - History getting you down? Want some amusement during biology? Let the Elite Beat Agents help you out. The DS has a headphone socket for a reason. Plug them in and get on down.
  • GBA: Orbital - You've had a hard day, and you want to wind down. Pop in Orbital in your GameBoy Micro and relax to the mellow gameplay and awesome music. You can get lost for hours in that game.
  • DS: Picross DS - It's art AND and game. If your teacher catches you playing it, you can just say that they're stifling your creativity if they stop you. Its fiendish logic will give your brain a workout, and make you a hit with the opposite sex. That last part might not be true, but it's a great game.
  • DS: Opera Browser - Not technically a game, but if your school has a wireless network, then having this cartridge with you could be a lifesaver. Need to find out when the Battle of Hastings was? Boot up the browser and Google it. Get on forums during the boring lessons, or do some blogging.
G-Off's List
  • DS: Brain Age 2 - What better way to start school than shaping up on some of the stuff you forgot over the summer? How about shaping up without even realizing it! Keep your mind sharp and your DS in use with Brain Age 2: More Triaining in Minutes A Day!
  • DS: Big Brain Academy - It's school! You gotta have the 'edu-tainment' games! big Brain Academy trains your brain in wacker ways that are less business-like than Brain Age, but still help keep you on your toes.
  • DS: Animal Crossing: Wild World - Return to your school enviroment along with returning to your Animal town! Hang out on the play ground not on your slides, but on your DS', trading furniture and upgrading that house you hope to own. Enjoy the fall foliage and the new villagers after school (or after homework)!
  • DS: Mario Kart DS - Speeding up and down the raceways with your friends after a long day at school is so relaxing I can't even stand it. Powerslide around your lunch tables, on the bus, wherever you get the urge to make your friends eat your dust.
  • DS: Tetris - Destroy lines from anywhere! Bus, playground, between classes, lunch, or ANYWHERE YOU WANT. Play up to 9 of your friends in a line clearing battle of the century (or at least of the lunch period)!
.ed's List
  • DS: Brain Age 2 - I wish they had something like this to get my brain in order before classes in the morning. A quick session to put that balanced breakfast to work right away is all I'd need these days, and often a staple of my morning commute to work now.
  • DS: Picross DS - Besides the straight forward strategy of Brain Age, a visual, mathematical, mental puzzle game that doesn't try to pressure you into failure but instead rewards positive acheivements is an excellent choice.
  • DS: Advance Wars: Dual Strike - This game not only teaches strategy, but helps you to create your own way of thinking about resource management in a system that has no single ideal solution. If you can handle the challenges presented here, you are encouraged to add the human element with multiplayer (even off one card) or create your own maps. This is a never ending game with so much to learn, that you begin to learn from yourself and attempt to educate people because you start to FEEL smarter. Hint: people who play Advance Wars games are actually smart, seriously, just flash the game at your teacher and they will know you be bumped into all advanced classes. Also they give you lots of money and tacos.
  • DS: ClubHouse Games (42 Classics) - 42 games. WiFi. Not enough friends in school? Who cares, this game means you will have someone to play against.
  • DS: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Holy crap this is the biggest deepest handheld game possible. Imagination, responsibility, creativity, strategy, teamwork, and exploration are all encourgaed in this game that defies the industry. Proving that you can put everything but cars, babes, and guns into a game and have it be worthy of everyone's attention. Plus I wish I had something like this going on at recess when I was in grade school, locking eyes with the new girl as I chase a rouge kickball that happened to foul her way; as I bend to pick it up my DS dives out of my back pocket... She smiles and asks if I'd like to battle as she motions to her coral pink system that I had mistaken for a makeup mirror. She promptly kicks my ass and embarrases me in front of the whole playground, I slip in a dog turd as I walk away and fall onto my back. The laughter of my contemporaries fades from my ears as I stare into the heavens, in a daze, her trainer card glistening on my scarred Onyx Black system. I am in lov-- anyway... You kids are lucky these days.
... If only Geometry Wars was out right now, then you REALLY would have a game for school wink!
