N+ (audio) Review: Geometry Wars: Galaxies (Wii, DS)
By G-off. Thursday, 6. December 2007, 19:47:49

Today was the first time we have done an audio review here on N+. I reviewed the Wii and DS versions of Geometry Wars: Galaxies, and hopefully you all like my hot voice. We are hoping that this will be the start of an N+ podcast, which would be uber-fun for all of us. I apologize for my um's and ah's through the review, I tried editing it out the best that I can. Please note: when I said 'according to seaempty...' that is not his opinion on this game. It is his description for the 10 rating. Also, the music played at the beginning and end is the main menu music from the DS version of Geometry Wars.

About the recording, I think it would be nice to make like an outline (like in speeches), so you can plan what you are going to say, not reading everything.

Also, there is a syncing problem at around 5 minutes in. I'm fixing that now.

The difficulty has been greatly reduced because of the lack of enemies. However, that can be an advantage because it makes it less frustrating as G-Off pointed out. It's why he scored the DS version more than the Wii version. I'm okay with that.
What I'm not okay with is even with the reduced number of on-screen enemies the framerate takes a dive. Add in a very active drone and some geoms littered about. The framerate drags to a crawl. Time slows down within the game and you go into slow motion--the exact opposite of what the experience was originally building up towards. Instead of rising tension it goes back down and gets a bit easier. I feel like I don't deserve the higher scores because of this.
It still is an amazing shooter that made me go "I can't believe they got this going on the DS!!" but mix in the framerate dives and the fact that you can hardly see them stupid blackholes [oh man, I just thought of how hard this game would be if you had the original DS] I would give it a 9.0.
