Smash Bros Brawl: The Cut Characters?

, , , , , , , , ,

Brawl Central, the site that Nplusser Jayvee1473 brought us a little ways back, has an interesting article accompanied by magazine scans and translations that may or may not prove that Ness, Marth, and Roy are NOT in Smash Bros Brawl! "Read More" for the pictures and transcribed text they offered. Also read on why I DON'T believe this is "hard-proof" of them being cut from the team...

We've translated the article showing Ness, and this is what we got:

Title: "Do you remember Ness?

Ness, a representative of the Mother 2 series, has been appearing in Smash. He started out in Smash Bros. as a hidden character. In order to make him playable all that trouble you had to go through...Incidentally, the movie featured on the official website reveals that Mr. Saturn is still a throwable item."

And now for Marth and Roy's:

Title: "Do you Remember Marth and Roy?"

They are touched upon in the column page, but these two participated in Melee from the Fire Emblem series. One of them is Marth who's from the game Fire Emblem and the Sword of the Dark Dragon and Light. The other is Roy who comes from Fire Emblem The Sword of Seals. Marth wields a fast flowing sword, and though immature Roy wields a potent blade. Can Ike surpass his two predecessors? Stay tuned!"

They point out that they are Ike's predecessors, meaning they're not in Brawl. Since the magazine is doing these features on old characters, is this the final nail in the coffin for Ness? Also, if you don't know what predecessor means:

predecessor - something succeeded or replaced by something else: The new monument in the park is more beautiful than its predecessor.

- SEE! they take the word predecessor (even though they gave a definition) to mean that they were replaced. Succeeded doesn't necessaraly mean the n00bs cut the oldies, does it? maybee he meant predecessor in the Fire Emblem games and not Smash? Or maybee it's just me trying to hang on to Ness , But I don't think Ness is cut, there just aren't enough Earthbound characters in the game, Lucas is showing a good amount of differences (more than Ganondorf and Captain Falcon at least) from Ness to not DIRECTLY cut Ness from the game, and somthing about the wording in the magazine article about Mr Saturn and how you had to work so hard to earn Ness. What does this news mean for Marth and Roy though? I dunno, it kinda stinks that they were given such a small part in the magazine compared to ness, and predecessor IS STILL a strong word... hmmm, what are your guys thoughts, feelings, cravings or desires about these characters and this news?

No More Heroes CollectionNess, Lucario, and Jigglypuff Playable!

Interesting story- Brawlcentral have posted about ten different translations on the Ness article, and the one they settled on was posted on GameFAQs about half an hour before they changed it. Brawlcentral seem to have lost some credibility for inaccurate translations, since they also presented a guess of Zelda's transformation into Sheik as fact before it was confirmed, posting a scan that said nothing about Zelda's moves.

A Japanese newspaper article has also "confirmed" 48 playable characters, but newspapers are hardly a reliable source.

yeah, also a friend read the sentance "Can Ike surpass his two predecessors?" as: Can Ike surpass the two people who came before him on the field of battle?" you know, what if Ike would FIGHT Marth and/or Roy, could he handle it?
