Dojo Update: 02/06/08

, , , , ,

Today is sort of a review, but it reveals some new Assist Trophies. Info and screens after the break.

A Metroid! It will attach to your head and increase your damage percentage. You're supposed to 'shake it loose', I assume that means pressing the attack button or something. Possibly jumping? The next trophy we're talking about is Tingle from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker! He pops out and brings up different effects at random. No idea if they actually do damage, or if there are any other effects besides some good looking flowers. Kat and Ana from the WarioWare series are up next, and Sakurai explains that when you put there names together it spells 'Katana'. (Holy crap, I just realized that.) They team up and chop a character with their swords, and it looks cool.

Jeff from Earthbound makes an appearance, using his knowledge of inventing to attack you with rockets. His invention, the Multi-Rocket 5, launches four mini-rockets, and one huge rocket. The cool thing is, they are all guided missiles. The Helirin from Kuru Kuru Kururin is also an Assist Trophy. It looks like a helicopter blade, and it spins around the level. However, it goes slow enough that it becomes part of the terrain - you can ride on it. It can also block you from getting back to the stage if you fly off. Jill & Drill Dozer from, well, Drill Dozer, are also trophies, and Jill uses the Drill to attack opponents. (So many Ills, I'm half-expecting to hear the Beastie Boys right about now...)

Nintendogs are back! Well, one Nintendog anyway. A Labrador Retriever. He waits until the battle gets heated, then comes up to the screen and tries to play with you. Lakitus are also here, in glorious 2D. They throw Spinies onto the stage, which then walk around and poke players with their spikes. Also appearing from the Mario-verse are Hammer Bros. They throw hammers at you. Pretty self-explanatory. They also appear in the Subspace Emissary as enemies.

Sakurai also mentions that even if you pick up an Assist Trophy, you still have to lift it up over your head while standing on the ground in order to activate it.
