Wii Motion +

, , , , , , , , ,

Nintendo drops us a sneak preview of the newest peripheral, and it's an awesome one too! Wanna lightsaber battle, FOR REAL? Want a good Red Steel, where you can sword fight, FOR REAL? Well, OK maybe it's not THAT cool, but it's as close as anyone REALLY wants to get to that. Let's face it, we would all lose against a real Sith! The "Wii Motion +" snaps right onto the bottom of the Wii Remote and give a true 1:1 feedback of the motions the players arm goes through... let the slashing begin! or butter churning, whatever you like I guess. Oh and you CAN connect a nunchuck to this, also that is a new remote jacket.

Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

I don't understand. This blocks the nunchuk port, essentially making it useless for games like Zelda, where I would assume this would be used the most.

My guess is that the Wii MotionPlus has a port to plug the nunchuk into in the bottom of it, or the Wii MotionPlus also acts as a wireless receiver...

Sadly, I expect it's the first...

Big dawg 14. July 2008, 16:58

that bottom bit looks to conceal a port of some kind.

Ace Jon 14. July 2008, 17:12

I don't like how you just stretch the jacket.

Definitely made for the new Zelda.

Anton 14. July 2008, 17:27

Big Dawg, yeah, i definetly thought the same thing, it really does look like a concealed nunchuck port.

Ace: well it loos strange because of the "lines" on the controller at the bottom where the jacket usually rest, it might not be stretched, i couldnt figure out what to make of this, BUT i don't really care as i dont use those damn things anyway

Kasper Adolph 14. July 2008, 18:03

That's pretty neat. Now they just need to make them wireless nunchuks a reality. P:

Joel Luther 14. July 2008, 18:20

Super-high-res version ftw.

http://files.myopera.com/lutherjw/images/object.jpg

So yeah, it's either stretched or Nintendo is manufacturing new Wii Remote Jackets...

Dustin Wilson 14. July 2008, 18:52

Condoms, luther. Condoms.

Spook 14. July 2008, 19:06

I never got the jacket (Nintendo LatAm NEVER issued the WiiMote Jacket offer here :frown: )

Sea: "we would all lose against a real Sith!" A real Sith? A REAL Sith? ¬.¬

PV: Wireless nunchucks ARE a reality... Nyko makes them and sells them for 30 bucks. Actually their reciever (which connects to the bottom WiiMote port) looks A LOT like the plus thingy... Here's the link:
http://reviews.cnet.com/game-controllers/nyko-kama-wireless-nunchuk/4505-3146_7-32815279.html?tag=ms

Ace Jon 14. July 2008, 19:08

Yeah, man. Real Siths are deadly.

Geoff Girardin 14. July 2008, 19:25

Those are new jackets. The current ones can't stretch that far, and the ones in the image are longer than the current ones.

Joel Luther 14. July 2008, 19:54

G-off: I thought so too, which worries me... How many millions of dollars did Nintendo spend on the first ones that nobody uses?

Ace Jon 14. July 2008, 20:00

Know that I will order four for my household again. Ar har har har! Free rubber!

Anton 14. July 2008, 20:00

heres the thing though luth.

The attatchment will most likely come with a new one. sure if we get it we have to toss ht old used cond... remote cover away, but for those of us who never got one, we wont. and no extra orders will need to be placed. so only those getting this attatchment will ned a new cover. its not THAT bad, although it is somewhat of a deal to put up with i guess.

evaunit6 14. July 2008, 21:45

I guess the real question is how much is it gonna cost to buy each attachment to make the already responsive Wiimote that much more responsive?

An even better question would be will they enable me to complete the original NES Ninja Gaiden for the first time in my life?

Pikachu Electron 14. July 2008, 23:14

Besides the image missing & the fullsize version too big for my Wii from what it sounds seems intereting .
While it obviously won't work with exsting games but with newer games it would be a big help .
I might have to find the image somewhere else .
Just they could do a nunchuck version as well too that would be really nice .

Kasper Adolph 15. July 2008, 12:22

Spook81: I know Nyko makes them but I'm not a big fan of 3rd party peripherals.

Anton 15. July 2008, 14:24

PV: I am the EXACT same way, but i will tell you that Nyko RECENTLY has been making really good stuff! The wireless-chuck is almost 100% identical in feel to the original chuck. I havent gotten it myself, the price tag is still a little to steep for cutting a cord that actually never really gets in my my, but if it were about 15 duckies, instead of twice the price of a cabled chuck, id get it.

The Nyko battery pack/charger for the Wii remotes is necessary, I freaking LOVE the thing it basically feels like the wii remotes are cordless phones, use em when you want, and put em back in the cradle when you are done, also i like the fact that the third party device is NOT powered via usb to my wii, it scares me to plug something into that thing, i like it way too much to trust third parties with the machine itself. plus i still have two ports for whatever the future holds.

Robbie 15. July 2008, 20:51

Will the nunchuk be stuck in the bottom of the Motion+? I hope so.

I certainly hope they release a new version of the WiiMote with Motion+ built in. I'd rather buy a regular sized full functioned wiimote then have half a dozen attachments stuck to the bottom.

Geoff Girardin 15. July 2008, 22:07

It appears that the nunchuck plugs into a port on the bottom of the Motion+

Adrian 15. July 2008, 22:48

yeah cause if ur going to play a nunchuck game u can't play with it on

Spook 15. July 2008, 23:06

I do think they're gonna release a new WiiMote with Motion + integrated; basically I think Motion + was something that was kept in the drawing board when the Wii was released and now they had the time and technology to REALLY make it happen.

Pikachu Electron 15. July 2008, 23:48

People are really talking about this neat little device .

I know that you can connect the nunchuck to the MotionPlus i i do believe for nunchuck games that doesn't use the MotionPlus i do believe you have to remove it

@Captian seagull
Those battery pack's whats the capacity as you might be at a disadvantage there .
All the Wii specific battery packs are pretty low in capacity as the biggest i seen is only 1800 mAh as compared the the energizers i use which are 2500 mAh which X2 would add up to 5000 mAh capacity for the 2 of them combined .

And as for my USB ports they both are used up one of them is charchingmy iPod mini which was my farthers which before that was my mothers & the other port is taken up by the keyboard that is used to type in this post .

Gee im just realise how long this post is & im glad that i got my keyboard here as i now hardly remember posting long post like this with my Wii Remote .

Anton 16. July 2008, 03:28

kawaii: all i know is that the battery lasts long enough, and then some. as long as you remember to charge it every 3 days or so you are fine, and like i said just treat it like a cordless house phone.

Ace Jon 16. July 2008, 20:55

The options, from best to worst:
4x good brand rechargeable AA batteries - 2 extra so you don't have to stop play.
2x the above.
Special battery packs - these do well because the top branded rechargeable batteries are quite a large investment, in a less attractive package.
Normal AA batteries. They last the longest, but the recurring charge is really rather hefty. Too hefty.

Spook 16. July 2008, 21:17

Ace: The Wii Battery Packs, at least in my country, cost MORE than a regular 4-pack of rechargeable batteries (be it the 'Bunny Brand' or the other guys...)

And from 'the buzz' I've heard (WiiFanboy, CNN, and ElNorte coverage), adding WiiMotion + drops the play time dramatically. The rumors claim that, at least in the prototype phase (that means the one shown at E3), this addon causes your batteries to run out in less than 9 hours. Of course, Nintendo people say they're gonna fix this soon...but will they really? Or will we see a new version of WiiMotion in the future, one that doesn't suck up all your battery power and maybe comes already bundled into a Wii Remote?

Ace Jon 16. July 2008, 21:56

Consider that you're buying a battery charger as well.

Spook 16. July 2008, 22:16

Wii Remote Battery Pack with charger: US$40
Energizer 4-x 2,500mAH battery pack WITH charger: US$30

Not fair, huh?

Pikachu Electron 17. July 2008, 00:28

@Sook81
Remember one thing in regards to mthe bunny brand while in the united states they have the energizer bunnys while rest of the world are more used to everyready bunny's .
Just look up energizer bunny & everyready bunny to learn more thats where i found out .

While Energizer uses the bunnys in the united states they use a cgi mascline battery for the rest of the world & he runs nealy as fast as sonic .

Even one of the ads parodies the bullet time effects .

also on another noe while both energizar & duracell released recharhables but everyready being an outright bunny by not releasing there on recharchables .

Dustin Wilson 17. July 2008, 04:30

Yeah oddly enough Duracell invented the bunny decades ago to make fun of Energizer.

Duracell 1983 Commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2ltKUI8aFE
Energizer's answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiFQsxGUQOI&NR=1

Spook 17. July 2008, 14:35

I know both major brands (Eveready doesn't count as major... I think its even subsidiary to Energizer, but I'm not sure...) have bunnies as their main mascot, but Energizer's bunny rules (Duracell's is kinda lame). As for they having a different mascot worldwide...that I didn't know P: But you got the point P:

Pikachu Electron 18. July 2008, 02:59

@Sppok81
The reason for the different mascots for different parts of the world is because Duacenn didn't copyright there bunny untill Energizer copyright there bunny in the US preventing duracell airing there bunnys in the US .
But nas Energizer has did it in the US at that point Duracell was quick to get there bunnys copyrighted the the rest of the world which stop Energizer from airing there ad outside so thats why Energizer invented there Energizer man .

HowardBrazee 26. June 2009, 14:58

I've got one - it makes Tiger Woods 10 playable like golf. I've read about a recharger which will work with this longer Wii stick without taking off the jacket. That's the next step, as I want my grandchildren to always use the strap and the jacket.
