Wii Might Offer Movie Streaming This Year - Lionsgate

, ,

Curt Marvis, president of digital media for Lionsgate (you know, that company who made the "SAW" movies, now owns the "Transporter" franchise, and pretty much brings mostly horror films to the US) has said in an interview with Variety that he expects the Wii to offer movie streaming as soon as this year.

I think when we see the Wii come into the market with the ability to stream movies, which I think is maybe going to happen as soon as this year, I think that’s going to be a big marketplace for digital distribution

Now, I don't know if you've tried to stream BIG YouTube videos, but the Wii always complains about running low on memory after a while (especially if your meager 512MB are already packed with a few of VC/WiiWare games); now imagine trying to stream at least OK-quality movies that are passable for TV display. Not only are you going to need a REAL storage solution for the Wii, but also you'll need a VERY good Internet connection. Hear that, Ninty? Professor Layton for the rest of the world AND true storage solutions; sounds like you've got a loooot of homework to do this year...

Excuse me Spook the amount of room in the flash memory does not affect how big youtubes be affectet its the 88mb ram thats affected flash is storage memory ram is running memory .
Computer memory is like a desk the RAM (random access memory) is like the serface of a desk where you can work on paperwork the larger the desk the bigger the area you can use to lay out paperwork .
The inbuilt draws is like storage memory you can lay out paperwork in there they only to serve as storage just like the 512mb flash .
Running the internate channel thakes up a chunk of the RAM meaning that theres only a small area of the 88mb bedside table to work with

Thanks for the analogy, but I DO know the difference wink And I know videos are stored in RAM, but you have to agree with me that with a streaming service with a certain expected image quality, 88MB are just NOT going to cut it anymore. Just like a computer, you'll need to make use of the storage memory to accomodate your processes a little bit better. If Nintendo is really planing on releasing a good streaming service, they'll definitely need to come up with a storage solution pronto.
