What The F**k?! Overkill Overdoes It

, ,

Weird entry this week. The Guinness World Book of Records has just recognized Sega's House of the Dead: Overkill as the World's most profane videogame (take that, Grand Theft Auto!).

Now, this is not only surprising for a videogame (the 'award' has been given out in the past to the film industry and printed media, but it is the first time it falls on the videogame industry to hold such a title), but also because the game is released for a console that is commonly associated (and very much taunted for it) with "Family Friendly" games. Another 'coolness' factor is that this is given out to a game distributed by Sega, Nintendo's former archenemy, which now seems to be the top developer/distributor for hardcore games for the Wii (MadWorld, which is not only bloody and stylized, is also filled with 'F' bombs; the Conduit, a highly anticipated shooter is also coming out this year, courtesy of Sega).

It is a dubious honour to receive such an accolade working in an industry where so often the fruits of your labours are derided and dismissed for being puerile or irresponsible, but in the case of The House of the Dead: OVERKILL a little puerility was the order of business. Parodying the profane excess of grindhouse cinema was Headstrong Games' objective and I am flattered that this record acknowledges that we not only rose to that challenge, but entirely exceeded it. - Jonathan Burroughs, Headstrong Games.

edit
On the back cover of the Official Nintendo Magazine Australia issue 3 .
It mentions it has an MA rating the (highist rating without it getting banned) it only mentions strong horror & violence not corse language .
If ether A mistake for the ad or B the OFLC doesn't consider the F word profane .

Then again i did witness a police officer saying the F word .

I don't know, but the first time I saw it it was on a perfume bottle; I did fall for the double entendre, until I recapped and took a closer look at the brand.
Some studies say that, if you already know a word, you can recognize it and understand a text by the first and last letters, even if the rest of the letters are out of place. Damn you, brain!

189 times does the "F" word appear during the dialogs of the game... according to the Record, an appalling 1 time every minute. F**k!
