Rock Me, Amateurs...

, , ,

You wanted it, many of you hacked your way into it, and now, MTV and Harmonix have made it real and legal: user generated music.

Rock Band Network is being shown as a closed beta, for now, and will go into open beta phase as early as August (yeah, that's next month). The project aims to allow bands and singers to upload and price their own songs for the rest of the world to enjoy. Buuut, there's a catch: these dates are for XBox 360 only, although there are plans to release the same network for both PS3 and Wii versions of the game (sorry PSP, no luck for you).

Uploaders will, apparently, have two options; either let 'Harmonix-trained freelance game developers' do the game adaptation for them, or hire their own people to do so. That way, not only are they writing songs and getting them out there, but they can also have the freedom to adapt the notes to the game in whatever way they see fit.

I have an odd feeling that this wont work very well.

Me too, but if it does, I'll have a fun time making the Metroid Brinstar theme.
