New Wii By 2011 - Yoichi Wada

, , , ,

That is one bold affirmation, Mr. Wada; so bold, we hope it's true (and preferably a little sooner than that). Square Enix Presiden, Yoichi Wada, has said that he expects Nintendo to release a new Wii by 2011, with features resembling those of the PS3 or XBox 360 (high-def graphics, HD Video playability, and network and multimedia features) and might even come with a new kind of controller (let's hope its not the Vitality sensor).

Mr. Wada's statements do not end there...Oh, no! He goes on to claim that Sony's and Microsoft's upcoming motion-sensing technologies will have little to no impact at all on their sales, claiming that their systems are already well targeted and unless a great deal of good motion-sensing games come out from day one, the new controllers will be more of gimmicks than actual controllers (ouch!). He also notes that actually developing motion-sensing games is quite a difficult task.

Present game machines already have a lot of functions: they are a network terminal, a Blu-ray or DVD player, and a gaming machine. Compared to these three pillars, the [new motion] controllers are quite limited, so the impact may be small. They are an extension of the gaming function.

But he does have a motion-sensing technology of choice: Microsoft's Project Natal. Wada even goes on to say that this will become the standard for the industry in the near future. Maybe he has a crystal ball or something...

"he thinks that Sony and Microsoft motion sensing technology will have little to no impact on their sales" After thinking about it, that seemed so true! i dont know why...

Sony and Microsoft have already set the basis of games for their generation. Games that require motion control will have problems with sales. Games with optional motion control won't urge gamers to buy these peripherals. If a game doesn't include motion control, it will probably not hurt its sales.

If Sony and Microsoft are to succeed with motion contol during this generation, they'll need to create some ingenious games that sell extremely well.

I'm not sure how HDMI support, Blu-Ray and DVD support will affect the sales of this generations Wii. Maybe it'll see a minor boost in sales. But if the next-gen nintendo console doesn't include HDMI and Blu-Ray, it might be at a major disadvantage to Sony and Microfts alternatives.

true....but can the audience appeal Nintendo.
Blue Ray is needed, and High DEF.
I thuoght the idea of motion sensing was copyrighted by Nintendo.

Spook81 21. September 2009, 22:09

No, not really... their controller technology, maybe (and even that is on debate with all the lawsuits and stuff), but the IDEA of motion sensing is way too popular (and used in the past) to be patented by a single company or individual...

anything on gb/gba virtual console for the DSi?

Spook81 21. September 2009, 22:49

Last interview with NoA I read, the virtual console for the DSi was NOT even being considered; they said they know it's something the fans want badly, but it's something that they're not looking into right now. Sorry.

NewTonyIc 21. September 2009, 23:26

thanks.

NewTonyIc 22. September 2009, 19:16

just curiosity,is that dude in Armor a judge from FF:tactics advance/d?

kawaiipikachu 22. September 2009, 23:24

Well Nintendo need to release there DS successor first before they release there Wii successor .
The DS successor will have a new custom dual CPU chip which is faster(& which coast a fair bit to devolop) higher resolutions displays Its own Virtual Portable something that will never hit the DSi improved cameras .

Spook81 22. September 2009, 23:29

You should channel all that DSi-hatred into something constructive P: hehehe...

The Wii won't have any of that, but they've said that the Wii successor will have HD.

Not that it's necessarily needed. Even MS and Sony are scaling back their HD efforts because most people don't have a HDTV, or just don't care.

NewTonyIc 24. September 2009, 13:43

what do you mean we don't care,we are lower than the middle class.
@kawaiipikachu....do you need some whooping at brawl for instigating the DSi....ah..ah..ah!!?
i have a psp,and still like my DSi.
