Rumor: Retro's Next Title Is ___________; Will Be Shown at E3

, , , , ,

Rumors always seem to fly rampant in the days leading up to the major press conferences at E3. IGN, one of the largest gaming websites in the world, is now taking part with what seems like a huge (and apparently credible) reveal. Retro Studios is one of Nintendo's best development teams, and we haven't seen any project from them since the release of Metroid Prime Trilogy. IGN now claims to have inside knowledge of their next project, and they claim it will be shown at E3.

I've posted the reveal after the break, so as to avoid spoiling the surprise for anyone who'd rather watch Nintendo's press conference live. Read at your own risk.

That's right, according to IGN, Retro is working on a revival of Nintendo's classic Donkey Kong franchise.

Peer Schnieder, a publisher at IGN, had this to say on his Twitter account:

Will Nintendo fans go ape over Retro's new game?

Don't read too much into my tweet. I just figured people might go bananas over Retro's next game. wink

I hope Retro's new game will barrel me over. #e3ign

IGN writer Craig Harris then posted an article seemingly confirming the cryptic tweets, saying "one of the wildest, but certainly credible, rumors we've just heard in the halls from those in the know: Retro Studios -- the Nintendo-funded studio that created Metroid Prime and its two sequels -- is now working its magic on a Wii game starring Donkey Kong."

True or not, we'll find out this Tuesday at 9AM PST. Stay tuned to N+ for our E3 coverage, live from the Los Angeles Convention Center.
