Pokemon B&W: C-Gear Freeze

, , , , , ,

Many people are having issues with the C-Gear in Pokemon Black and White versions freezing when they try and connect to WiFi. When you first turn the game on and it asks you if you want to start with C-Gear on and you say yes, there is no problem, and then at any time while playing the game outside of a battle you can turn the C-Gear off.

The next step is where many people are having problems, turning the C-Gear back on while playing. To get it back on you press the "power button" on the touch screen, and it gives you a message: "Turn on the C-Gear and establish connections?" with "yes" and "no" being the choices as ell as a warning about using wireless in hospitals and airplanes. Many people experience the "freeze" at this point, no matter how many times they press the "A" or "B" buttons, it just doesn't go forward or back-out, you still get music and top-screen animations (like rain and nearby trainers moving) but the game pretty much stops. The solution: Use the touch-screen! You have to TAP an answer for it to connect or decide not to connect.

Then the game displays a message "When commuications are on, closing the system will put it into Sleep Mode if the battery is low. Please watch the battery." and shows a red wireless connection icon... that never turns green. This is where I was freezing up. The game appeared to be trying to connect but could not, none of the buttons were working, and there were no "buttons" displayed on the touch-screen! I still had top-screen animations and music though. Again, the solution: TAP the bottom-screen. This time there is nothing to even suggest that you should tap the screen, not even fake on-screen buttons, just an icon that suggests that the game is working on connecting.

It appears that the game really wants you to be aware of not using wireless in prohibited places. It's a good idea to warn people about things like that, but the user interface is poorly designed. This is the only menu I can think of in the game where the only input is touch, and the "A,B" buttons do nothing. I thought I had to turn the system off when the game did this to me, so a few times I lost some progress sad - don't be fooled, I have discovered that MANY people are having this "problem" and loosing progress by doing what I did.

Just remember if the game "freezes": TAP THE TOUCH-SCREEN.

I've only ever had some freezing issues when people flee from a random online battle. They always wait until I'm about to win, too..

One time the cable became loose while I was playing Crystal vs Silver version and fixed the cable real quick, the game loaded my opponent pokemon as a level 1 tangela with hydropump! It als gave my bug guy flamethrower. So I did destroy it, and my buddy still showed he had his regular crabby, but I fainted him.

After the battle I had one win and he had one loss, but our guys returned to normal.
