Nintendo Direct Shows Much Promise for Japan's Gamers

As you may have been aware, Iwata-san held another Nintendo Direct to showcase upcoming content to consumers at 12PM Japan time today (or 10PM EST yesterday, depending on your timezone). Although much of the context was hidden behind a rather forceful language barrier, I've taken the liberty of transcribing the video's contents as best as possible and have compiled a list of content that Nippon gamers and importers alike can expect in Q1 2012 for their gaming pleasure:

Please note that the list has been alphabetized for convenience.
  • Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble
  • Beyond the Labyrinth
  • Fatal Frame 3DS (which will have AR Support for a booklet it comes with)
  • Girls' RPG: Cinderella Life
  • Harvest Moon: The Land’s Origins
  • [Hatsune Miku]初音ミク and Future Stars Project Mirai, which seems to be a 3DS Vocaloid application
  • Kid Icarus Uprising (confirmed to have online support)
  • Kiki Trick (a Wii minigame title from WarioWare creator Sakamoto)
  • Kingdom Hearts - Dream Drop Distance
  • Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater
  • New LovePlus
  • Resident Evil: Revelations
  • Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure
  • Shin Sangoku Musou VS (Dynasty Warriors VS)
  • Tekken 3D Prime Edition, which will contain "Tekken Blood Vengeance" 3D Movie
  • Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
  • 3D Classics Kid Icarus

Iwata also took the time to show off the limited edition Club Nintendo 3DS units again, perhaps to remind gamers to register their products before the deadline.

After this portion of the stream, there were two more segments. The first of which discussed "April and beyond", and had a much shorter list, as follows:

  • Bravely Default Flying Fairy, an RPG with impressive in-game AR application
  • Fire Emblem
  • Kiradeco Revolution, an eShop photobooth app for which a photo contest was mentioned
  • eShop content

As for the nature of the eshop content, I'm afraid that all I have is two text images which are largely in Japanese. However, if the chat is to be believed, one image mentions demos for Rhythm Thief, Resident Evil, Theatrhythm, and Metal Gear Solid.

The final part of the stream has been cut from the recording, which is available to view at Nintendo Japan's Ustream page. Judging from context clues, these were part of other segments and therefore have not been included in the Nintendo Direct video. However, all content is available at Nintendo Japan's Nintendo Direct page.

The first was an Iwata interview showing off New LovePlus, a dating sim which makes use of the 3DS's features and appears to take an in-depth account into the environment surrounding a player's real life. For instance, you can take a picture with the 3DS camera and your simulated girlfriend will interact with it as though she were really in the environment. How creepy can it get? Just check the picture at the very top of this article; she knew the loveseat and Iwata were there, and she sat down next to him.

The other two were largely useless to simple English speakers such as myself, as one showed off Project Mirai gameplay and the other was what I would call a "developer roundtable" for Monster Hunter 3G. The Project Mirai video showed off all of the features in the game, including three characters and AR support, but the rest was singing, dancing, and Japanese text. The Monster Hunter [square]table was 20 minutes of talking with no English subtitles, followed by 2 minutes of mulitplayer hunting. They decided to chase down an aquatic beast and chased it onto shore before finishing it.
