Hello everyone! The time has arrived! Today officially starts E3 2011! And as always, N+ will have live coverage of the Nintendo Press conference! Like in years past, will have a Cover it live chat with all the N+ moderators giving you up to the minute of our coverage of whats happening and our thoughts on all the conference. Hit the jump for the CoverItLive chat!
Nintendo's going to be doing its big announcement later today at E3 which we will be covering live here on N+, and a couple of us have decided to give out our wishes for this new keynote speech. We didn't plan this post until late, so a few of the other mods weren't available for comment. Hopefully when they receive note of this they'll add their opinions to this post. Here goes.
I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who and 16-bit gaming. This is just some brilliant work by someone who does have a lot of time on his hands. At least it's productive!
The video is of the current Doctor Who opening sequence realized in SNES-like 16-bit goodness. The music is even SPC-like! The SNES would have been capable of producing closer sounds to the current theme and could have been realized by using SNES instruments (a whole lot of them existed back when I was doing hobby game making) instead of an assembled soundfont. Technicalities aside, every aspect of it is indeed cool.
With the recent confirmation that Nintendo will be showcasing its new tech at E3 this year, it's only natural to see retailers taking discretionary measures to continue pushing current-gen units. GameStop has taken such measures, recently announcing a price drop for all Wii bundles.
Get a new Black or White Nintendo Wii bundle for only $169.99! Get off the couch and experience a great value! Bundle includes Nintendo Wii console, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and more!
Needless to say, the influence of Project Café on the industry is already evident. If you're among the folks who missed last year's E3 offerings, now may be your chance to join in on the fun!
And, if you've been missing out on the discussion, it may be your chance to join our forums!
Earlier this morning, Nintendo sent out a press release that dropped a huge bombshell... the confirmation of Project Cafes existence! And that it will be shown at E3! Heres the Press Release:
Nintendo Co. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011. We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles. Sales of the new system have not been included in the financial forecasts announced today for the fiscal term ending March 2012.
Plus, many sites such as Kotaku are saying the controller will have a touchscreen, and will have a tablet-like look. What do you guys think? I know Im waaaaaaaaaaay excited that Project Cafe is real!
In a recent interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, USA Today got the inside scoop on Nintendo's recent hit-sellers.
Consumers bought just fewer than 400,000 Nintendo 3DS systems in the week after it was launched March 27, said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.
In addition to the 3DS sales, Nintendo sold more than 460,000 DS systems, sparked by the March 6 release of two new Pokémon games, which combined sold 2.5 million copies.
Also in March, consumers bought more than 290,000 Wiis, he says, resulting in a total of 1.1 million units of Nintendo hardware sold for the month. "A very strong March for the Nintendo business," he says.
Despite the recent environmental catastrophe in Japan, Fils-Aime went on to say that Nintendo has secured an ample supply of product for stores. The lack of a sell-out has been dismissed as part of Nintendo's plan to stay on top with this new handheld.
Anton already mentioned this in the 2Q Release post, but I can't help but make it a big deal. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS has an official release date: JUNE 19th!!
This image is an accurate description of my feelings and/or actions upon the moment when I read this news this morning.
OoT3DS is NOT a direct port of the greatest game of all time, but a REMAKE - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo64. The new 3DS version includes vastly updates graphics, and entirely new and awesome control scheme specialized for the 3DS, better inventory management, an additional "C Button" slot (which I think is CHEAP), the ability to use the 3DS gyroscope for your first person viewpoints and your slingshot/boomerang/fairy bow aiming.
Most importantly, the game includes the ability to select the Master Quest, which is the same plot, but changes the insides of the dungeons to be much more difficult and intense.
Be sure to go out and pre-order this amazing game!
The AR feature of the 3DS surprised me. I never would have thought it would've been that cool, and it's the main feature that has gotten all my 3DS-less friends jealous (other than my Street Fighter IV skills). It's also fun to compare your 3D photo taking skills. Anyhoo, after snooping around on Nintendo's site to see how much they're charging for 3DS parts, I found a handy little link:
You can download and print as many AR cards as you want! Or, if you're savvy, put'em on your phone like I did. The cards are great and all but they're a pain in the pocket to carry around. However, now that I currently have two of each AR card, I figured it's time to get a little... experimental.
Check after the break to see SAMUS-ON-SAMUS ACTION!
Who knows why these things happen, but it looks like those of us in the Americas have already gotten notice of our first update for the Nintendo 3DS. A partial transcript is below
March 27, 2011
Thank you for purchasing the Nintendo 3DS™ system.
System Update 1.1.0-1U is available and provides improvements to the overall system performance. As an added bonus, this update also includes the 3D music video "White Knuckles" by OK Go for your enjoyment.
*Please note that the "White Knuckles" music video is provided for a limited time and may be deleted from your system with subsequent updates.
After updating my own system, I've noticed that the video displaces the "Health and Safety Information" from the far left of the Home Menu. The information is still available further along the menu, so don't fret.
Additionally, after viewing the video myself, it is confirmed that it will be removed with the next update, so get it while you can!
You. Happy? Share that happiness and chat with us at the N+ forums!

Lo and behold, just an hour after my evening escapades into video-game land did I come upon this notice from Nintendo with exciting news of news of things yet to come.

Looks like on their off time at Opera HQ the guys get together and play some old school Nintendo games . The guy having this go at Super Mario Bros. is the best player at the game I've ever seen. I think you all will agree.
