This is certainly not the first time someone has hacked a Super Mario World ROM file before. It's not even the first time someone has made an automated level, but the sheer effort that went into creating this denotes not only a true fan, but Mario's impact on modern culture. The level uses several custom features which can be added with the Lunar Magic Super Mario World ROM editor, including the polka-dotted blocks that make you jump and invisible sprites that make Mario run fast. You can even set any linear portion of the level to behave like icy terrain.
Lunar Magic primarily uses a WYSIWYG interface, but for a project like this, knowledge of hex coding (and probably a lot more) is a must. Anyway, this video was created for, posted on, and influenced by the Nico Nico Douga video sharing website. The songs in the track are a mix of just a few which are popular there (Actually, more like 30). You may even hear a tune you recognize

Equally impressive is the non-lyricized version listed in the related videos.
