DoA: Samus Should Get To Party, Too.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions is the latest title in the Dead or Alive fighting franchise, currently slated for release on the 3DS on May 24th (in North America). At 60fps, this game looks fantastic, and it's sure to be a treat for fans of the series thus far.

It's been announced that there are 25 playable characters in the game, more than in any of the previous DoA titles. The game is also set to include a level based off of Metroid: Other M, which was also developed by Team Ninja. In this level, Ridley seemingly flies around the arena, and at times grabbing the players and dragging their faces all over the walls. And while Samus is not a playable character, she does make an appearance at the end of the level, to somehow aid players.

But why should our favorite heroine-in-a-power-suit be left out of the fun? Let's talk about why Samus would be perfect as a playable character.

She can pack a huge punch. The girl has skills. After being raised by an ancient race and facing countless battles against space aliens both in her time as an official academy brat and as a bounty hunter, Samus could most certainly handle a couple of guys and girls in skimpy clothing.

Her new found lack of self-esteem. While I didn't let it bother me in my time with Other M, Samus is clearly slipping from her once-strong foundation as a rad, bad warrior. The sudden daddy issues and emotional roller coaster ride she went through in her latest game proves that. Which is what makes her perfect for DoA:D. She'd actually be the strongest and most self-respecting woman in the game. Look at the others. Look at Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball. You get my point.

She has the wardrobe. Just give her a Final Smash-esque move that will destroy her armor, and boom, Samus will go from tough hunter chick to skin-tight, leather jumpsuit wearing DoA girl. She'll fit right in, and with the boost in sales by the fanboys, Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei will be making a pretty penny.

It'd give Nintendo a chance to test out Metroid on the 3DS. A chance to see how the graphics work. A chance to see if everything comes together properly on the new system. Currently, there's no Metroid anything en route to the new portable, and including Samus in an early game as a minor character would be the easiest way to see if it's an okay move.

Link already did it, and he did great. Our favorite green-garbed hero made a cameo in Soul Calibur 3 for the Nintendo Gamecube, with new weapons and a new moveset that hadn't been seen in any Zelda game before. And he was incredibly fun to play as, they gave him a great storyline, and he didn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Now at some point, the developers may change their minds and make Samus playable. But with such a close release date, that is looking less and less likely. However, with the 3DS' new online capabilities, we can at least hold out hope for a special Samus-themed DLC pack. Right? Right?

Here's the video of Dead or Alive: Dimensions from this year's GDC. Coming to stores near you, in the US, May 24th.

From what I've read, the DoA franchise is just "Tits and ass". They even went as far as to create a Beach Vollyball game, with a "photoshoot" option where the characters do seductive poses while in bikini.

I even looked up the creator. He's responsible for other games like "Ninja Gaiden" and "Heavenly Sword". All his games have a heavy emphasis on big breasted woman who wear very little.

Not even Samus can save this game...

Unfortunately, even in spite of the blatant objectification that takes place, the series sells. And even disregarding the Volleyball series, DOA has some solid gameplay that has continuously scored favorable reviews.

That being said, yes, the creator is lame and needs to stop with the everything.

That last sentence was really awkward to write and I don't know what it means.

DoA is a very fast paced, reversal oriented, LITE version of Virtua Fighter with emphasis on jiggly ladies with plastic skin. My favorite part of the series are the counter-reversal techniques that are easy to input but tough to pull off because you have to predict what your enemy is going to do and time the counter just perfectly--the result it very rewarding. My least favorite part of the series is the Tekken inspired "air-combos" where you can be popped 6 inches off the ground and be rendered as a floating punching bag, leaving your helpless and unable to counter. The actual gameplay is very fast, smooth and actually enjoyable. If you can get past the big boobs and the incredibly vapid storyline (standard for fighting games), it could be a lot of fun.

Unless, however, you've sipped the fine wine of Virtua Fighter 5. Then everything else tastes like stale soda.

On the subject of Samus in DoA, I feel like Team Ninja's done enough harm. Samus, Link, Pokemon Trainers, etc. etc. are meant to be kept SILENT for a reason. How are you supposed to connect with the gaming character on screen if the hero is narrating their feelings? You're supposed to come up with your own conclusions. Supporting characters, the background, and lore are supposed to tell the story and setting. I feel like you're supposed to be the hero, which is the interactive element that separates video games from movies and TV shows.

Granted, there are games where the heroes have their own personalities, but I can guarantee that most of them started out that way. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The day Link starts talking is the day I don't buy a Zelda game.

One last thing: Link was awesome in Soul Calibur II. He still didn't talk and it was beautiful. Ivy, "DON'T MOVE, YOU CURR" Link, "HYAAAAAAAH"

I have D.O.A. 2, and it wasn't T. & A. It might be the best arcade fighting game ever.

Gavin, have ever played Guilty Gear? It is, without a doubt the best. BlazblueCS23D should be promising.

Uh, and basically anything from the Tekken franchise could easily top DOA. I'm just hoping they add a few more characters to the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2, right now it just looks like T6 with a tag mode. I've heard rumors of Michele coming back with Jun, which sounds like a waste of 2 character slots to me. Unless they decide to take out Asuka and Julia for whatever reason.

Dead or Alive 2 kicks Tekken's ass. No, never played Guilty Gear. But I'm still on my Dreamcast. p
