Go Shopping With Your DS

, ,

If the Wii Vitality Sensor left you thinking that Nintendo was going crazy with why-would-I-use-that patents, then you have to check this one out. A patent filing by Nintendo describes a wireless in-store system for your grocery shopping needs by using your Nintendo DS handheld system as your guide.

Basically, the system/game requires the store to keep a very accurate record of its inventory and to have a reliable wireless network installed. Why? Well, because your DS would then hook up into their database and check if your shopping list is available at the store you picked, telling you which items are in stock and which ones are out.

But that's not all; once you get to the store, the game begins. By using the wireless network in the store, your DS would be able to show you a map of the facilities and mark where each of your shopping list items are, letting you create an efficient route for your shopping trip.

If you're into the whole legal mumbo-jumbo inside a patent's document, then here's the complete patent filing by Elliot and Scott for Nintendo of America.

Nice. I'd only use it once a year or so though.

I think it can be a 3DS feature, it makes sense: the software could be delivered as an update through "SpotPass" by using the shopping Wi-fi.

I think it's just one step closer to Nintendo ruling Japan using DS'

And then naturally the world - which I am ok with.
