PREVIEW: Super Mario Crossover 2.0

, , , ...

Super Mario Crossover, the fan-made mashup that throws some of our favorite 8-bit heroes into the Mushroom Kingdom, is getting an update this spring.

Throwing in new levels, Super Nintendo graphics, Game Boy graphics, and a plethora of new characters, this looks more like a major overhaul than a standard update. Additional characters announced in the trailer include Luigi, Protoman, Trevor (Castlevania), Haggle Man (Ninja Gaiden), Demon (Kid Icarus), Bass (Mega Man), Dark Link, and Dark Samus. Those last two I assume are merely extra costumes for Link and Samus.

Hit the jump for the 4 minute trailer and let your insides tingle with nostalgia.

Platinum Gift from NOA!

, , , ...

I just got this in the mail, and I'm super-duper excited! You see, Nintendo has this thing called "Club Nintendo", which is wicked rad. You can register every Nintendo system you buy and any first-party games developed by Nintendo. Doing so earns you virtual coins that you can redeem for awesome little gifts and prizes, including a life-size AR card for your 3DS!

There are even two levels (Gold and Platinum) that you can reach, depending on the time of year and amount of coins you obtain, and those levels come with free prizes. The Gold prize for 2011 was a stylish Star tote bag, and the Platinum gift is this kicky sweet pin set. I'm going to wear all of the pins.

REVIEW: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS

, , , ...

It's no secret that I am a massive fan of the Legend of Zelda. My first real experience with video games was at the age of seven, when I first played Ocarina of Time for the N64. It took me two years to finish the storyline, with six months spent purely on trying to defeat Volvagia. When I was in middle school I would write Wind Waker fanfiction. When I was in high school, I would decode the Hylian language.

Now, at the age of twenty, I have 27 playthroughs of Ocarina under my belt. I have a folder on my hard drive filled with term papers and different theses that I have written - for fun - delving into the psychosis of the Hyrulian lore. My fiancé and I run fictional Twitter accounts as Link and Princess Zelda. We plan on naming one of our daughters Saria. I recently emblazoned my skin with the beauty that is the Triforce. And it is my great pleasure to enjoy the treats that the 25th Anniversary of the Legend of Zelda has to offer us.

It is a joy to play this fantastic title again. Now, let us take a look at this latest remake of a classic.

DoA: Samus Should Get To Party, Too.

, , , ...

Dead or Alive: Dimensions is the latest title in the Dead or Alive fighting franchise, currently slated for release on the 3DS on May 24th (in North America). At 60fps, this game looks fantastic, and it's sure to be a treat for fans of the series thus far.

It's been announced that there are 25 playable characters in the game, more than in any of the previous DoA titles. The game is also set to include a level based off of Metroid: Other M, which was also developed by Team Ninja. In this level, Ridley seemingly flies around the arena, and at times grabbing the players and dragging their faces all over the walls. And while Samus is not a playable character, she does make an appearance at the end of the level, to somehow aid players.

But why should our favorite heroine-in-a-power-suit be left out of the fun? Let's talk about why Samus would be perfect as a playable character.

Ocarina of Time 3DS Official Date is Here!

, , , ...

Anton already mentioned this in the 2Q Release post, but I can't help but make it a big deal. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS has an official release date: JUNE 19th!!

This image is an accurate description of my feelings and/or actions upon the moment when I read this news this morning.

OoT3DS is NOT a direct port of the greatest game of all time, but a REMAKE - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo64. The new 3DS version includes vastly updates graphics, and entirely new and awesome control scheme specialized for the 3DS, better inventory management, an additional "C Button" slot (which I think is CHEAP), the ability to use the 3DS gyroscope for your first person viewpoints and your slingshot/boomerang/fairy bow aiming.

Most importantly, the game includes the ability to select the Master Quest, which is the same plot, but changes the insides of the dungeons to be much more difficult and intense.

Be sure to go out and pre-order this amazing game!

Review: Disney Epic Mickey (Wii)

, , , ...

The highly anticipated release of Disney Epic Mickey is upon us. Ever since being announced at E3 back in June, and at the time won many "Best in Show" awards, both for the Wii category across various news outlets as well as Platforming categories and overall rankings.

The release of the game is upon us, and I am lucky enough to be able to review it. It is an absolute joy to play. Epic Mickey has easily surpassed my expectations, and shows that it is not just another boring, Disney product. At the first start, the game is absolutely stellar.

Crazy $350 Midna/Wolf Link Statue

, , , ...

You all should buy this for me. I mean it's only $350, but that is kind of understandable when you really look at it.

First off, it's beautiful. Second, there is a limited run of 750. But that's not all. The 750 are the ones that don't light up. That's right. There is a limited limited run of 350 statues that LIGHT. UP. Drop some batteries in this gorgeous figurine and Midna's hair lights up, showing off her power level, which I believe is over 9000.

Hit the jump for four more photos of this beauty.

N+ Review: Sonic Colors (Wii)

, , , ...

Sonic Colors (or Sonic Colours in the UK and Australia), is the latest release in the Sonic series. And man, did they get it right.

While I originally only had an interest in the game because of the sweet pre-order bonus, didn't care to play the game. The premise, Eggman creating an interstellar amusement park as a way to "give back" to the planet after nearly two decades of mayhem, seemed fine to me. I didn't see how that was a terrible thing. The information Sonic Team gave us only said that our fast-footed hero assumed that Eggman was doing something evil. This sounded to me like another crappy Sonic game of late, cheap plot line, pathetic gimmicks. A continuation of the cycle.

Hyrule Gets Facebook

Have I posted this before? I don't think I've posted this before. Regardless, I am clearly obsessed with Zelda, and if you've ever been to my website or anything, you know I love the internet. So, well, this post is just awesome to me.
