N+ Chat Reborn

, , ,

How many of you knew we had an IRC chat? We do! Our fearless leader even wrote about it before, and we have a link on the front page to that post of his. Us frequent visitors to the chat room have neglected it as of late, and let it expire. Remco was kind enough to re-register the chat room for us. Why don't you all pop in from time to time?

If you're unfamiliar with IRC My Opera contains some excellent tutorials on how to use IRC, especially within Opera itself. Of course you're welcome to use a client of your own choice other than Opera. The easiest way is to follow a hyperlink straight to the chat room like this one. If you're using a modern OS (and a browser like Opera) your preferred IRC client should load.

Typically you'll be able to find either myself or G-Off on there, and eventually if we get a good enough crowd we might try to hold IRC-only events. Hope to see you on there.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice Screens

, , , ...

Remember Buffy? She stabbed her stake into our hearts back in the day, and is now coming back to fight evil on the DS. It's a special game, partnering 505 Games with Twentieth Century Fox, and it brings back Rob Deshotel, an original writer for the series, to write the story. It takes place sometime after the final season, and players control Buffy in her quest to steal back the Hellmouth (you can steal the Hellmouth?). Sadly, it looks to be quite short, at only 12 levels, but it brings back basically all the main characters from the series. Also, it's only for Europe! So you folks be looking for it in November. Which means that, you know, it probably already came out and I'm slow.

Hit the jump for six screenshots and a full press release.

Eiji Aonuma is Never Gonna Give You Up

, , , ...

He's the man who brought us the legendary Ocarina of Time. The producer of the Legend of Zelda series is very proud of that monumental game, as he should be. And now we can all be proud of him. In a recent interview, Aonuma stated that he will stop at nothing to make a game better than Ocarina, and that's the reason that he has stayed on the team all these years.

Originally posted by Eiji Aonuma:

"I’m happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day, but that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it," he explains. "As someone who is still working on the series, I have mixed feelings about that. Because I haven’t yet surpassed it, I can’t quit. Surprisingly, that simple motivation may be the reason I continue to work on the Zelda series."

Here's to hoping he reaches his goal soon enough.

The most noticeable difference, however, is that the Chaos Emeralds have to be found within certain stages other than the Special Stages. The battle spans seven time periods, including the Stone Age, the Egyptian era and the Japanese Civil War era. Each hero features a variety of attack options in addition to their own normal attacks, including a deadly attack that inflicts damage upon all enemies on the screen, special ninja-arts attacks performed by inputting specific commands, and a powerful attack unleashed by taking on the "shape of the beast" when three scrolls have been collected. The game also supports two-player cooperative play, so you're welcome to bring a friend and enjoy taking on the evil Spider together.

Based on the third game in the enormously popular arcade series, Donkey Kong 3 introduces an exterminator named Stanley as he desperately tries to protect the flowers in his greenhouse from Donkey Kong. Armed only with a can of bug spray, Stanley must force Donkey Kong higher and higher into the greenhouse rafters until Donkey Kong is off the screen and the next stage is reached. Not surprisingly, Donkey Kong isn't going to move without a fight, so he sends wave after wave of bugs, bees and other creatures toward Stanley. Not only must Stanley repel the insects in order to save the flowers, but he'll also have to keep an eye out for projectiles thrown by Donkey Kong himself. If Stanley is good enough, he'll be able to grab a can of more powerful bug spray and really get Donkey Kong moving. It all adds up to frantic fun that anyone can enjoy.

Yahtzee Takes on Indy

, , ,

Ahh, Zero Punctuation. A favorite of us here at N+. Yahtzee reviews new games in such a perfect way, always taking the proper amount of fast talking, profanity, and hats and turning it into something wonderful. This time around he's reviewing LEGO Indiana Jones, and really hits the nail on the head when it comes to this new LEGO game franchise. He also throws in his own review of the new Indy movie at the end of the video. Hilarious.
