, , , ...

Waaaaaaaaay back in July we posted about the MyOpera Group Wii Opera SDK, which features the work of N+ member geekrecon.

Part of this is HullBreach Online, which is a MMORPG developed for the Wii Opera Browser. The game's come on leaps and bounds, and geekrecon was recently interviewed by 4CR. It's an indication of how great an achievement the game is, and many congrats is due!

The interview can be found here, and if you fancy Digging it, you can. Thanks to johnnysaucepn for the heads up.

I+ Comes Up With Some Tasty Nintendo Treats

I+, the MyOpera group dedicated to independent media, have posted some neat little Nintendo-themed games available to download. Both games feature Mario; Super Mario War seems to be like Super Smash Bros., and Mario-Forever is a new take on the Mario platform games. For more details, head over here.

N+ Voted Best Group on MyOpera

, , , ...

Well, We won! :hat:

The 2007 MyOpera Awards have been awarded and N+ has been chosen as the Best Group by the community (which recently broke 1,000,000 Members). We'd like to thank all of those who voted and continue to support N+, this group really is the product of it's members, not just moderators.

Thanks so much guys. If you're newer to N+, have a look back at some of our previous Milestones, or read the N+ Interview to learn how it all started.

After a look back, a preview into what's in store: Think more fun, more reviews, and more features. We've got a Costume CoN+est going on now that everyone should check out, Our prizes are getting crazier, and we're going to be fully reviewing games like the big boys soon (i.e. before they are released).

So, now we can add Best Group to our trophy case, anyone want to share thier favorite parts of N+?

EvWiiwhere Featured Blogger: Furie

, , , ...

The EvWiiwhere Challenge is designed to build a database within N+ and MyOpera of unique photos of the word Wii spelled out (in public for extra fun) while giving credit and sharing the spotlight with our memebers actively participating in the challenge. This is going on all through the month of April.

As promis.ed, we're highlighting those who've posted 5 or more images (per the Instruction Manual). Our second enplusser to throw 5 6 up was Furie. Even though some weren't in public, he's getting some bonus points for having at least 5 in 24 hours, giving him a strong start and certainly motivating others. And what's up with the UK totally kicking everyone's neck out here? Man, these States need to wake up (earlier it seems).

Awesome work there with the food. Check em out, throw out some feedback, and try to 1up with your own!

The Ev-Wii-where Challenge + Update!

, , , ...

UPDATE: The EvWiiwhere Album has been filled with the entries so far. Visit the album and use the star voting system at the bottom right corner of the images. You can submit entries here using the instructions below until the end of the global day, May 6th 2007. Then it will be all up to the votes in the remaining weeks of May.

PRIZES: What will the winners get? Since this is the internet and people can always find ways to cheat, the winners will be determined by the N+ Moderators who will take reader response, comments, and the star rating of each image into account, as well as the effort and creativity.

  • 1st Prize: A Nintendo DS lite!
  • 2nd Prize: A DS Browser!
  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th Prize: MyOpera goodies
If you have any questions after reading, please send me a message through MyOpera.

Wii has without a doubt captured the world's attention. From the predictions, to the breaking news, the surprises, features, style, size, and games, Wii has become a household name just as fast as 'Nintendo' did in the mid 80's.

Everywhere you turn, there's a commercial or store display. Every magazine cover is plastered with Wii news. Every store is trying to get you to trade in for Wii games. Every website's got a Wii news story almost daily. Wii is more than a success, it is a cultural phenomenon. Wii is everywhere. Well... almost. Let's have a little fun with the general public!

| Instruction Manual
  • Be an N+ Member. If you aren't, Join Now.
  • Take pictures of the word Wii spelled out in public. Don't just take a picure of the word; find it in unnatural places, or make it yourself out of things you found there (see my two glorious examples below).
  • Post each picture as blogs to your MyOpera blog.
  • Include one of the codes below in your EvWiiwhere posts by pasting it in before or after the image. (use tags like Nintendo, Wii, N+, and more to help others find them)
  • Come here, and post a comment with a link right back to your blog letting us and the world know to check it out.
  • N+ Moderators will 'farm' the images we find from our users, and put them all in a private gallery. The gallery will be unveiled after we gather a bunch of images at which point everyone will be able to vote, or support, their favorites by using the built in voting system (:star::star::star::star::star:) and comments... the more votes, the better... so tell your friends to join N+ and vote!

| Codes (to make it an official entry)

| Examples
| Power Ups
  • If you make 5 seperate EvWiiwhere posts in your blog (with 5 comment links here), we'll do a blog post on N+ highlighting your submissions, and of course, link it back to your blog for extra attention.
  • We'll look at the voting results and determine some winners, too. Expect some Nintendo and Opera themed prizes.
  • The more entries we get, the more we're going to be able to give away. So go nuts!
  • When the world downloads the Opera Browser for Wii, they may just find you highlighted in MyOpera.

The whole point is to show off how creative you can be, what you can find out there, and what you can leave for other people to discover, and for us to be able to link back to our readers' blogs in great number for once. N+ is only the sum of it's parts and we want to show off your blogs for once. Come up with the best images, and let us boost your traffic!

This is what an EvWiiwhere post should look like!

| The Fine Print
Look how fine this is! Doted imagines Bob Saget yelling "There's Wii everywhere!!" Challenge Art created by Khadgar, go look at his kicky new blog design. Larger versions of the examples are stored here. Man I really hope there's no typo's in this post... Have some fun... and try to keep up with me! Challenge submissions should be posted within the deadline posted above, to celebrate the Opera Browser for Wii Final Version release.

From Dusk 'til...

, , , ...

A sign you've played too much Hotel Dusk... when other people think so.

Even though this note predates my knowledge of the game, I've decided to "Dusk it" and see if people can figure out the clue, and what it's meaning is. There will be a reward.

The N+ Interview

, , , ...

We've come a long way. Today marks the billionth time N+ has graced a MyOpera front page and it's a doozy. The N+ Interview chronicles the foundation, beginnings, and philosophy behind N+ and it's glorious evolution within MyOpera. Am I boasting too much? Ok, ok, but if you want to know everything you don't know about N+ (including what's coming soon), check it, as told by Seaempty, CaptainSeagull, and myself.

Thanks Espen!

Five Hundred

, , , ...

I have to be honest, I was a little worried soon after I had posted The Challenge. I even txt'd a few people saying "I either just made a big move, or a big mistake for N+" Because it wouldn't look very cool if we had, say 20 people join in a few weeks and had only a handful of new Members by the end of March. Instead, we had over 200 additional members join N+ and MyOpera in about half of the time I allowed. Bringing us past the 500 Member goal several weeks early! Awesome.

The Surge
Just asking people to spread the word seems to have had the greatest effect on numbers. The other was people joining who realized "I've been reading N+ often, but never realized you could join" some, partly because they were using the RSS/Widget function, others because they have very tiny eyes. Let's take a moment to make fun of them.

The Support
Usually the N+ Moderators are the ones that get credit for what's going on here, but you know us. I'd like to take an hour or so to gather a bunch of html together to honor a few people that you may not know are responsible for why you're a part of something that is going to be huge soon.
That actually took about an hour.

Founder's Badge Nintendo Plus Founder
So, for our N+ Founders, paste the whole code below in your about page, in comments, signatures, other profile pages, MySpace, blog, sticky posts, etc. to show that you are one of the first 500.
<a href="http://my.opera.com/Nplus/blog" title="N+ Founder"><img src="http://files.myopera.com/DotEd/albums/161273/N%2BFounder%20Gray.gif" alt="Nintendo Plus Founder"></a>

Thank You
To everyone that has joined, helped, supported, linked, shared, shown, subscribed, spotlighted, bookmarked, favorited (word?), and read N+ helping us reach this first important goal. This is just the start.
Objection!

Penguin Power

, , , ...

Every now and then, a MyOpera member goes way out of thier way to show thier support for N+
Penguins + is a group created by ShoppingPenguin as a place to ...really enjoy penguins... and share a multitude of references to our beaked little cruisers. But N+ is highlighted quite a bit as the inspiration for creating the group, notice the plus? kicky!
There's competition for Beeks with Penguin Snacks and there's even Nintendo references!
I believe that all penguins love the Wii. It hasn't been tested yet, but because of the unique motion sensing controller, it is now possible for penguins to play video games by holding the controller in their beaks. This was previously impossible, because flippers (while great for swimming) are terrible for holding traditional gaming controllers.
I volunteer myself to judge all snacks. Please email all sumbissions to MyStomach@DotEdsBody.eat
I meant to post about this sooner, but now that it's been a while, there will be more black and white to enjoy!

Some Wii Changes

, , , ...

Well, here we are, day one of the new MyOpera.

Some nice functional and cosmetic changes to MyOpera have had a nice effect on N+ here. Plus there is a special suprise for Wii browsers starting today, more on that in just a sec.

If your in a browsing mood, I'd recommend checking out:
  • the new MyOpera front page with all of it's fancy new links
  • this blog post about some changes, featuring some kicky sweet references
  • reading the devblog towards the end of the day to see what additional changes have and will occur as feedback rolls in

Some quick new features are in the blog side bar now, recent comments, member highlights, and my personal favorite, if you have a MyOpera page set to allow others to see if you're on you will show up in the recent visitors spot with a link to your info! Hooray for dynamic content! :hat:

Now, for those browsing on Wii, Fred has informed me that you'll see a visually enhanced version of N+ designed for Wii browsing. Smaller tag icons, larget buttons, font changes, and more will now make N+ on your TV a more user friendly experience. Many of these changes came from feedback from our members, and Fred made these changes here first! Thanks so much Fred!

Sorry for that terrible 'NEW!' icon, I thought it was the crappiest one, from a European Government site... I think. But it made me happy.

N+ Chat +Update

, , , ...

+Update: Thanks to Remco we've now got a visual social diagram that updates in real time (every 10 seconds or so) of those in N+ Chat and the frequency with which they interact by mentioning names. Seriously, it's awesome.

N+ has been growing quite a bit lately thanks to extra effort by our Moderators and Founders working to reach our 500 Member goal in time. We've been using all of the resources Opera has to offer (until the new MyOpera launches) except one: N+ Chat

Many thought it would be good to have an N+ Channel. So we created it! You can talk to N+ Moderators and Members @ irc://irc.opera.com/N+

This was prompted because yesterday the #MyOpera IRC Channel went live and it's been pretty popular. It's a place to go to get information about MyOpera, and for a little support on your MyOpera profile. Plus you'll be able to chat with some real crazy live Opera Employees.
If you are using the Opera Browser, #N+ will open as a new tab, pretty simple. Of course, you are free to choose your IRC Client. Please visit http://my.opera.com/chat/blog/ for help on creating a username, registering it, and more before posting questions.
