I knew this month was going to be themed after
Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater, but before I even had any idea of how I was going to draw it, I
KNEW I needed to tile the background with snake skin, I was never going to get a better opportunity to do something so venomous to the site. After I was able to put together an image that tiled flawlessly out of a snake photo, I set to work on the actual art itself.
The artwork is more "watery" than any of the other artwork I have done thus far for the site, and it's because I really wanted to give it a nice style that maybe touched on the older artwork the Metal Gear games used to get treated with. It's a little similar, but a little different too, just like the re-make for the 3DS. It's the old game, with a ton of new features built in, and of course is eye popping 3D. I hope you enjoy what I am calling "Jungle Pass", my favorite part is the fact that Snake noticed he street-passed someone in the jungle (lucky jerk) and has to stop his mission to check it out - it was probably that real snake he doesn't notice next to him... and yes I know that you can't really see the green light from the back of the unit, and yes, I know the light turns off as soon as you open the system. Shut up.
As always, theres a big fat wallpaper sized version in the
N+ art gallery. So tell me, what do you think?

Dear Nintendo America,
GIVE ME THIS. Nintendo Japan, to close out the 25th anniversary year of
The Legend of Zelda, is selling for 3,255 Yen (about $42 USD) this wicked-crazy, heavy-duty, art book filled with concepts, sketches and info. The info is rumored to contain the official time-line of the games, and the history of Hyrule. The Japanese fans can get this baby on December 21st. The rest of us better have good Japanese friends.

mach go go go, N+, speed racer, seagull
...
Mario Kart 7 comes out on
December 4th! That's only four days away, so to celebrate N+ is wearing a
Mario Kart visual style this month. My design is obviously a play on the
Speed Racer artwork, or
マッハ Go Go Go, whichever title you prefer.
I guess there really isn't much left to explain here, oher than I tried to match this drawing up as closely to the original artwork as possible. My favorite addition to the design was also the last thing added, and was almost left out - The banana peel. In the original artwork you can clearly see Speeds' scarf flowing from his neck, and that's just something Mario doesn't have. I did the artwork without replacing this piece, and while it looked good without it, the image still felt empty. After getting everything prepared for the site, the banana peel idea hit me like a thunderbolt from Zeus! Now the work is complete!
If you want, you can check the
N+ Design gallery for a wallpaper sized version of this months styling, GO MARIO GO!

Lookie lookie I painted a pikture of Link! I wanted to paint a pikture from one of my favrit games so I choosed the Gamecube game "The Zelda Wind Awaker". I painted Link on this boat with his sword! The boat can talk! Oh and also the boat is a red lion, but he also was the King of hyrule when he was human, but that was a long time ago before many ages passed and Hyrule got flooded because I don't know why. Oh and also Link visits islands and caves so he can find the pieces of the Tryforse, that is three triangles that combine together to glow gold and help Link to defeat the big guy with the bird who his name is Ganon, not the bird, I don't know his name, but the bird stole Links sister and that's why Link is on an adventure to try and save her.
OH! and Link likes to catch pigs for some reason, he sneaks to them crawling in the grass and then will grab them and hold them above his head, but he wont hurt them, and they oink whenever he takes a step it sounds funny, OH! and also there is this fish guy Link can give food to by dropping the food in the water, and the fish is happy and knows how to paint, so he will paint on Links map to help him find the Tryforse, I don't know how his paint doesn't mess up in the water though, and also Link can Awake the wind by being a music leader with the stick to show wich way it should blow and then it does, and that makes the boat be able to go to other places!
OH! and here is the full size so you can
make a wallpaper for your computer! and also I think that maybe there might be more Zelda art this month for the website!

shiny, pokemon, seagull, red
...

I guess it depends where you live, but this spring has been dumping the rain on us in the Colorado foothills! Maybe it's because of all this rain I decided to do a rainy design theme for N+. Maybe it's because I have a box full of shiny pokemon (which by the way are all legit!), and I wanted to create a theme using a shiny.
Whatever the reason was I decided to create some fan-art for the website revolving around the crazy storm the shiny red Gyarados is causing at the Lake of Rage found in Gold/Silver/Crystal versions as well as the Heart Gold and Soul Silver remakes of the games. This is the first time N+ has been dressed in the remakes colors, though it has once been dressed in the "classic" colors. The shiny red Gyarados is so far the only shiny pokemon in the series that you have a 100% chance of encountering and having the ability to catch. In some places in the series you are guaranteed to battle a shiny or two, but they belong to another trainer so your out of luck. Also in the classic G&S generation, the first egg the daycare couple gives to you has a really high chance of hatching shiny (like 25% or something). Nintendo from time to time will also have mystery gift events with shiny guys.
So, tell me what you think! Is the art nice? I tried to get it to look like wet paint, sort of a lesson for myself. I am pretty pleased with the outcome! Well, if you DO like the artwork you can drop by the ol'
N+ design gallery and catch the
Red Gyarados wallpaper for yourself!

Justin Vigil is this months artist, and he brings to you: Okamiden. The guy has been nuts about the game since it came out, and more often than not has it on in his 3DS ruining any chances he has at street passing people! Well, the pup is a cute little guy and makes an adorable replacement for last months hideous Earthworm Jim face staring right at you. It's a good thing we have multiple artists contributing to the site huh? hahaha.
If you think the design is pretty nifty, why not get yourself the wallpaper from the
N+ Design Gallery? What do you guys think of Jayvee's fan-art?

I had the opportunity to get a customized iPhone 4 case while at
SXSW. So, I took one of my favorite images, the Travis Touchdown

wallpaper that
Anton made for N+ a few months back. It came out awesome and is printed on a durable soft textured cloth laid in soft vinyl. It's kicky pro.
Check out the original in our
N+Design album.
Check out a
HQ version to see the cloth detail.

N+, design, seagull, jayvee
...

This month the artistic visual theme for N+ is
3DS and Friends (some of the moderators being the friends), because by the end of this month, anyone with enough cash and a decent video game shop nearby should be able to get one almost anywhere in the world.
The theme for N+ reflects us as our video game counterparts - as the artist Justin Vigil sees us anyway. He drew himself as Snake, .Ed as Travis Touchdown, myself as a Red Pikmin, and Dustin Wilson as... Tingle. You can also find in this wacky rendition our love of Opera, Tacos, and the necessary "paper work" needed for saving games, after enjoying tacos of course.
If you would like a desktop wallpaper version of this, or any other months artistic styling please visit the
N+ Design gallery. Its also filled with screenshots of how the site looked at each of it's designed stages. And as a shameless plug for myself, I drew the 3DS system in this piece as well as the taco, Opera flag, and roll of TP. And because we know how much you all LOVED the Cho Aniki artwork of last month, we decided to
force let you all enjoy it for another month by placing it in the bottom screen of the 3DS. Just watch out for the combined Mens Beam four of us mods can create... scary stuff!

Majora's Mask was an amazing game. From the unique gameplay alone to the theories of virtually everything in the entire game, it's a beloved part of our history. And DeviantArt user
KurkoBoltsi is basically the greatest fan of all time, thanks to this beautiful, amazing,
greatest thing that I have ever seen. It's a depiction of the final showdown of Majora's Mask, (assuming that the user has gotten the Fierce Deity's Mask,) an intense battle with Majora's Wrath. It is, how I believe, how the battle would actually look, if we were able to turn into a god that was sealed into a mask and fight evil on the moon.
Hit the jump for the thing I want as a tattoo on my chest someday.

The Internet has alwasy been quick to be humorous about all sorts of events. Thankfully, this time it was a good thing that could have turned into a really bad thing.
In an unprecedented rescue operation that captivated the eyes of the world for months (but mostly for the 24 hours the actual rescue was carried out in), Chile has proved that miracles are real and all obstacles can be surpassed when faith is kept, when people work together towards a common goal, and good Engineering is brought into the mix (yeah, I'm an Engineer

).
And how is this related to Nintendo? Well, "Super Mario" was one of the miners trapped and rescued! In case you haven't read/heard/seen the news, one Mario Sepúlveda was nicknamed "Super Mario" by his coworkers. And in that spirit, the Net has replied with an obvious image about the rescue.

resident evil 4, halloween, design, leon
...

I like October, the entire month for me is Halloween. All the creepy ghosts, goblins, zombies, and other things that go bump in the night. Terrible(ly awesome) slasher flicks come out around this time, and at the very end you can dress up as crazy as you like, and the more insane you are, the better it is! I think about the N+ artwork for halloween constantly through the year, trying to decide on which game to pull the spooks from, and this year I just couldn't decide between Resident Evil and my favorite: Super Mario World, so when push comes to shove you gotta do what any nerdy fan-boy should do, a mash-up!
So here we have Leon investigating the mysterious disappearance of the President's Plumber. It seems he went missing somewhere in Dinosaur Land and Leon is following all the clues. Leon has never dealt with ghosts before... I wonder how well those bullets will work? Wait, do you here something? I think I hear Mario... "Leon, HEEEELP!"
Oh yeah, as always there is a
full-sized wallpaper version for your desktop in our
N+ art Gallery. So how does everyone like it?

A new trailer and some new artwork has been released for Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Nintendo Wii. This game looks so killer, I think I'm gonna die. Mostly from looking at Kirby and saying "AWWWWWWWWWW!!!" really loudly the entire time that I play. The artwork available is the logo to the right, Kirby in a flying saucer, and Kirby in a robotic tank. We've also got the boxart.
Video and art after the break. Kirby's Epic Yarn is set for release on October 17, and is rated E for Everyone.
