Shoppingpenguin's NP Interview

, , , ...

NP Subscriber Profile

Early last month we caught wind that Shoppingpenguin was going to be presented in Nintendo Power with the custom apron by Beeks she won in the Cooking Mama Challenge. We initially thought she was going to be presented in last month's, but found out it was going to be this month, so as I promised here's her interview.

In addition to gaming, subscriber Tori M. loves preparing food--both in Cooking Mama and in real life. She made this stuffed-tomato Cheep Cheep, which won a contest and earned her a custom Cooking Mama embroidered apron! Tori is currently in college, but she's been gaming since the age of eight. "I even attribute my 4.0 in college, in part, to skills I learned from video games, such as problem-solving ability (Resident Evil and Zelda), quick reflexes (Mario), and of course the rewards of hard work and diligence (Harvest Moon)."

The interview didn't mention My Opera or N+, but it's a great interview. Anyone interested in finding out what contest she won that under shouldn't have a hard time finding out. So everyone give Shoppingpenguin a round of applause. She deserves it!

If anyone wants to take a closer look at the scan of her interview you can click on the image provided and it will take you to the photo album with the picture in it.

RR: Super Castlevania IV (SNES)

, , , ...

Every Monday Nintendo adds a few more games to their U.S. list of Virtual Console games. These games are downloadable from the Wii Shop Channel. The games come from a list consisting of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Turbo Graphix, and the Nintendo 64. Every Tuesday N+ provides you with one "Retro Review" of one game off of the list. The Retro Review is designed to introduce young or new players to some of the "classics" that made gaming what it is today, while also providing a reminder to those who have already played these games, how much fun they really had. This way, whenever you want to download a new VC title, you can have at least one place to turn to see if it was good before you spend those Wii-Points. "Read More" for the review...

I Am Error

Matthew, N+ member and affiliate from The Tanooki, has exhausted himself completing a video for the Nintendo Short Cuts competition! It is INCREDIBLE, and I think it's one of the best videos to be submitted so far (and I'm not being biased!). Be sure to watch it, and expect a post soon when the voting actually commences!!

Our Shoppingpenguin to be Featured in NP

, , , ...

Tori!

N+ Member shoppingpenguin is going to be featured in next month's Nintendo Power with her Cooking Mama Challenge entry Stuffed Tomato Cheep Cheep.

Shoppingpenguin's withholding the information she sent at the request of the NP rep, and won't disclose whether N+ or Opera was mentioned... hmm. I guess we'll have to see, won't we? She sent in information about her contest entry along with the excellent apron made by our own Beeks! Nintendo Power was very interested in her entry (why not?!), and sent her this reply:

Thanks Tori. That's amazing! How would you feel about having us feature both you and your Cheep Cheep in our subscriber profile? If you're interested, we'll need the following things:

  1. A photo of you (preferably with the Cooking Mama apron, but that's not 100% necessary)
  2. If you have a game collection, or magazine collection, or game-related collectibles, it would be nice to have a photo of that as well)
  3. Your first name and last initial (example: Andy M.)
  4. Your age
  5. How long have you been subscribing to NP?
  6. Your favorite game of all time
  7. A small paragraph about your life as a gamer

I know that's a lot to ask, but I think you'd make a great subject for our subscriber profile. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks! Andy M.

Frantically she sent her reply, and you can see her information in the next issue of Nintendo Power! For anyone not subscribed we will post information on her interview as soon as we get it.

Real Life Mario Party!

, , , ...

Speaking of parties we most likely will never be able to attend, Matthew at The Tanooki recently posted about a very special Mario Party one youngster received for his special day. Complete with Coin Block favors, character party bags, Chain Chomp pinatas, and TAKE-HOME-PLUMBER HATS, this party was the event of the century! I wonder what kind of games they played--did the kids balance on balls and try to knock each other out of a ring? Did they play Shy-Guy says? Obviously, these parents put a lot of time and effort into this little soiree, and I think we're all a little jealous! Click "Read More" for additional pictures!

deviantART: Those darn Goombas!

, , , ...

While perusing deviantART.com for some more Nintendo art to add to my collection of favorites, I stumbled upon this loveable image of the Mario Brothers and a pesky little Goomba--they always cause trouble, and this time Mario looks really ticked!

Most Depressing Video Game Rig Ever!

, , , ...

There's something about this image that just makes me feel really BLEH! Perhaps it's the basement locker room setting, it could be the awful grainy colors of the 80s, or maybe it's just because that poor kid is sitting inches away from that P.O.S. television.

It reminds me of my early gaming days when I was 6 years old sitting in MY grungy concrete basement playing our NES, except our entertainment center was a dingy storage trunk my mom kept her old clothes in!
Think back to the glory days of your gaming rigs--did you have a sweet setup from the get-go, or did you start out playing your NES on your grandma's old TV?

O_o !!

No sooner does Beeks share 64DD info with the N+ readers that's so kicky solid we can practically taste it, wiifan24 (Myron)blows my skull clean into next week by simply sharing his!

Oh, AAAAND the most ferocious Nintendo collection I've ever seen. Ever. And I've seen the Internet. This collection may not have "every NES game ever with books" (well, I dunno, it may) but it certainly spans more decades than anyone else's that I've seen, has the widest variety, and left me so speechless, that I couldn't think of a title for this post and I threw my box for Ping Pals into orbit. He had sent these pictures to Neeecole who forwarded them on to me.

Check out the last page of the Member Hardware Album, but first, tie your belt around your chair.

All of those tags are intentional.

Retro Review: F-ZERO

, , ,

As one of the first games released on the North American Virtual Console, F-Zero for the SNES has long had a Retro Review coming. As one of the first games to use an application called Mode-7 (which allowed us to experience racing in what appeared to be 3-D), F-Zero created quite the splash. That splash rippled into more games of the F-Zero series and influenced other racing games, such as Daytona USA and the Wipeout games. F-Zero is set in the year 2560, and like most futuristic racing games, it is unbelievably fast and deadly! With different playable characters, including a mutant, multiple tracks in various environments and treacherous traps littering the racetrack, F-Zero is one of those classic titles whose name everybody knows! Enjoy our next Retro Review with excerpts from the SNES Instruction Manual and other quips from me, Beeks!
