N+ EvWiiwhere Challenge UPDATE

, , , ...

Nintendo Plus Wii Challenge
To be fair, there were a lot of people that missed the deadline for the EvWiiwhere Challenge (originally today was the last day) because of crappy local weather this weekend. I received a few messages from some that convinced me to extend the time frame for submissions another week. While this may seem unfair to those who've already submitted something, it still gives you a whole additional week to get more submissions in yourself, increase your chances of having the fan favorite, and still gives you a longer head start on building up your votes. So no worries, this extension benefits everyone.

To participate, read the detailed original post that also details the voting and prizes. And share the love with banners and buttons!
The new deadline for submissions will be the end of the day (globally) May 6th 2007.

Last Reminder for Cooking Mama Challenge!

, , ,

Just one last reminder about the Cooking Mama Challenge! The deadline is this Saturday, April 21--so be sure to get to work creating Nintendo cuisine if you want to enter! We already have two more entries by shoppingpenguin and heirSmitty, which you can see in the Cooking Challenge photo album! If you need to see the entire list of rules again, go here!

Reminder--Cooking Mama Challenge is still on! *UPDATED RULES!*

, , , ...

SOOOOO I feel like sort of a dink because I completely glazed over the fact that only moderators can add pictures to the N+ album! With this now at my attention, I feel *REALLY* bad and hope that no one tried to enter but gave up because they couldn't submit photos. I AM SORRY!

BUT! I have revised the Cooking Mama Challenge
rules! Basically, N+ members can upload their pictures onto their blog or photo album and can send me a link. You can see the updated rules here!

Again! I'm soooo sorry for my poopiness and failure to realize this mishap!

EvWiiwhere Featured Blogger: Furie

, , , ...

The EvWiiwhere Challenge is designed to build a database within N+ and MyOpera of unique photos of the word Wii spelled out (in public for extra fun) while giving credit and sharing the spotlight with our memebers actively participating in the challenge. This is going on all through the month of April.

As promis.ed, we're highlighting those who've posted 5 or more images (per the Instruction Manual). Our second enplusser to throw 5 6 up was Furie. Even though some weren't in public, he's getting some bonus points for having at least 5 in 24 hours, giving him a strong start and certainly motivating others. And what's up with the UK totally kicking everyone's neck out here? Man, these States need to wake up (earlier it seems).
Furie's evWiiwhere's

Awesome work there with the food. Check em out, throw out some feedback, and try to 1up with your own!

  • 1st Prize: A Nintendo DS lite!
  • 2nd Prize: A DS Browser!
  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th Prize: MyOpera goodies
If you have any questions after reading, please send me a message through MyOpera.

Wii has without a doubt captured the world's attention. From the predictions, to the breaking news, the surprises, features, style, size, and games, Wii has become a household name just as fast as 'Nintendo' did in the mid 80's.

Everywhere you turn, there's a commercial or store display. Every magazine cover is plastered with Wii news. Every store is trying to get you to trade in for Wii games. Every website's got a Wii news story almost daily. Wii is more than a success, it is a cultural phenomenon. Wii is everywhere. Well... almost. Let's have a little fun with the general public!

| Instruction Manual
  • Be an N+ Member. If you aren't, Join Now.
  • Take pictures of the word Wii spelled out in public. Don't just take a picure of the word; find it in unnatural places, or make it yourself out of things you found there (see my two glorious examples below).
  • Post each picture as blogs to your MyOpera blog.
  • Include one of the codes below in your EvWiiwhere posts by pasting it in before or after the image. (use tags like Nintendo, Wii, N+, and more to help others find them)
  • Come here, and post a comment with a link right back to your blog letting us and the world know to check it out.
  • N+ Moderators will 'farm' the images we find from our users, and put them all in a private gallery. The gallery will be unveiled after we gather a bunch of images at which point everyone will be able to vote, or support, their favorites by using the built in voting system (:star::star::star::star::star:) and comments... the more votes, the better... so tell your friends to join N+ and vote!

| Power Ups
  • If you make 5 seperate EvWiiwhere posts in your blog (with 5 comment links here), we'll do a blog post on N+ highlighting your submissions, and of course, link it back to your blog for extra attention.
  • We'll look at the voting results and determine some winners, too. Expect some Nintendo and Opera themed prizes.
  • The more entries we get, the more we're going to be able to give away. So go nuts!
  • When the world downloads the Opera Browser for Wii, they may just find you highlighted in MyOpera.

The whole point is to show off how creative you can be, what you can find out there, and what you can leave for other people to discover, and for us to be able to link back to our readers' blogs in great number for once. N+ is only the sum of it's parts and we want to show off your blogs for once. Come up with the best images, and let us boost your traffic!

This is what an EvWiiwhere post should look like!

Challenge submissions should be posted within the deadline posted above, to celebrate the Opera Browser for Wii Final Version release.

Cooking Mama Challenge!

, , , ...

Some of you may have noticed that I like to make treats--but more specifically, treats that have that special Nintendo feel about them! So, it was no question that I felt like breaking out the cooking supplies once again when Cooking Mama: Cookoff for the Wii came out! Then I got to thinking that I'd really love to see what other people out there are making and baking--and so, I thought I'd present you with a Cooking Mama Challenge! The rules are simple and the prizes are fabulous!

  1. First, you must be a member of the N+
Community! And if you aren't already...then you should definitely *join!*
  • Entrants will showcase their ultimate Nintendo-themed dishes. It can be anything from 1-UP Cupcakes to a bowl of pasta with Goomba meatballs!
  • Once you have concocted your creation, snap a picture of it and stick it in your personal photo album! If you have joined N+,
  • then you should have your own blog and photo album. Post your picture in your album and send me the link. I will put your picture in the Cooking Mama Challenge Album for all to see! (also, when you take your picture, if you could maybe put a little nametag or something with your username showing in the photo, that'd be great! That way we know it's a genuine creation!)
  • Contest ends April 21st. At that point, the N+
  • Moderators will judge the five tastiest creations and then let the community vote on the best one! If there are *sadly* less than 5 entires, moderators will be eligible to win and I will just open up the polls to everyone!

    The PRIZES!
    • A *custom-made* Cooking Mama apron handcrafted by me, Beeks!
    • A featured post on the N+
blog that showcases your fabulous dish!

I realize that there is a similar event in the works--one that I didn't even know about until after I finished making my Cooking Mama apron! Even so, I thought it would be great to keep this contest going; after all, the other Cooking Mama challenge is for those lucky enough to live in New York, whereas THIS contest is open to everybody! So happy cooking, and good luck!

    Five Hundred

    , , , ...

I have to be honest, I was a little worried soon after I had posted The Challenge. I even txt'd a few people saying "I either just made a big move, or a big mistake for N+" Because it wouldn't look very cool if we had, say 20 people join in a few weeks and had only a handful of new Members by the end of March. Instead, we had over 200 additional members join N+ and MyOpera in about half of the time I allowed. Bringing us past the 500 Member goal several weeks early! Awesome.

    The Surge
Just asking people to spread the word seems to have had the greatest effect on numbers. The other was people joining who realized "I've been reading N+ often, but never realized you could join" some, partly because they were using the RSS/Widget function, others because they have very tiny eyes. Let's take a moment to make fun of them.

    The Support
Usually the N+ Moderators are the ones that get credit for what's going on here, but you know us. I'd like to take an hour or so to gather a bunch of html together to honor a few people that you may not know are responsible for why you're a part of something that is going to be huge soon.
That actually took about an hour.

    Founder's Badge Nintendo Plus Founder
So, for our N+ Founders, paste the whole code below in your about page, in comments, signatures, other profile pages, MySpace, blog, sticky posts, etc. to show that you are one of the first 500.

    Thank You
To everyone that has joined, helped, supported, linked, shared, shown, subscribed, spotlighted, bookmarked, favorited (word?), and read N+ helping us reach this first important goal. This is just the start.
    Objection!

    1-cUPcakes from BEEKS

    , , , ...

Please enjoy this succulent image from the Kitchen of Beeks. I gained 3 extra lives eating these cupcakes and also had a couple of lovable prairie dogs investigate my baking! Part of the reason why I made these cupcakes was because it was Snack Day at work, but also because I'm already in the mood to celebrate N+! Have you noticed the number of members BALLOONING over the past few weeks? We're ALMOST there, and I just couldn't wait to start my own festivities! Way to go N+!

    The Challenge Happen

    , , , ...

It's been just over 1 week since I issued the first N+ Challenge. The goal is to have 500 members before Opera launches the final version of the Wii Browser in late March. We got about 35 new members in 8/9 days:yes:. This means that at this rate we may just make 500 total by that time. This is  and , because if we start to slack it's over! So we need to step it up (especially new members) and show Opera that we can do this. That we support thier hard work, and we will be here when droves of n00bs come flooding in.

As stated in the post, the first 500 N+ Members will be an and have a page with links to everyone placed on the Side Bar (under N+ Founders).

So place an badge in your About page by copying in this code:
    <a href="http://my.opera.com/Nplus/blog" title="N+ Founder"><img src="http://files.myopera.com/DotEd/albums/161273/N%2BFounder%20Gray.gif" alt="Nintendo Plus Founder"></a>
And use it wherever you can (it's simple HTML).

Does anyone have some good ideas on where or how to promote? Share with a comment!

    300 + Challenge

    , , , ...

You know, yesterday I was thinking I should issue a challenge. To see if we could get 8 new members to bring us up to 300 by today. I didn't, and we hit the number anyway. Check out our Member List to see the latest N+ Members (hint: with the exception of the moderators on the first page, people are on the list in the order they joined). We've grown steadily over the months and have built an excellent community, active forums, a sexy blog, and kicky sweet content from our well informed members. Other sites are linking to us every day, so far we've been featured in over 110 blogs and over 22 gaming websites.

This got me thinking. I should issue a challenge to our 300 Members. A challenge against incredible odds...
I tried to think of something fun, rewarding, and kind of tough. Something that we can work together on. So here it is: Kill like a hundred thousand Persians.

Ha, no seriously... Lets try to get 500 N+ Members by the time Opera releases the Final Version of the Opera Browser for Wii, set for late March. Wha?! Don't worry, it's not nearly as difficult as killing 100,000 soldiers, but it's going to be tough. By working together, bringing in friends, brothers/sisters/cousins/coworkers/etc., promoting on our other personal sites with banners and links, spreading the word on N+ through message boards and other community sites, and spotlighting this blog (by clicking the spotlight link at the very top of the page) I am confident we can reach this number.

But Ed, you said this was going to be rewarding! Ah... well, it's hard to reward all 300 of you, some will undoubtedly work much harder than others, and many of the additional 200 will put in a great deal of effort as well. So I will proclaim the first 500 as N+ Founders. There will be a link in the Side Bar that will be a page that has all 500 of you named, honored, and of course, a link to your my.opera page. For those putting in even more effort, I will arrange something a little better, perhaps some Opera or Nintendo goodies (I have some stuff floating around here), and maybe we'll find out that we've got a future moderator in the ranks that we didn't even know about. This is your opportunity to really step it up and show us your support. So to see who is working the hardest, you can have the members you bring in leave a comment here letting everyone know who showed them the N+.

    :knight::knight: FOR SPARTA! :knight::knight:
Update: I made an badge to put in your about or blog pages. Just place the below code
