It seems that the DS is Captain Picard's number one choice when it comes to gaming consoles. Nintendo Europe have signed up Patrick Stewart to sell even more numbers of the Dual-Screened Wonder Machine. After Nicole Kidman helped them shift numbers of More Brain Training, it is hoped that Mr Stewart (and his dodgy moustache) will help sell ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?’, Big Brain Academy, Tetris DS and My Word Coach.
It's works for me, and makes it so more appealing to pick up one of this titles. Yes, that was a laboured attempt to fit "make it so" into this post. More details of the campaign (which includes some lesser celebrities and Johnny Ball, who is a god) can be found on the NoE site. I'm now off to drink my Earl Grey tea, hot.

This week's Virtual Console update for the Americas has a little bit of everything. Some ninjas, some space, and a healthy dose of fantasy. Some unreleased, some off the wall, and one we can all relate to, even if only through humor. Solid. N + Lunar Pool® NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points Lunar Pool takes the historical game of billiards and reinvents it with a unique and futuristic flair. The rules are simple: All you need to do is use your cue stick to hit the white cue ball, causing it to hit the other numbered balls and make them go into the pockets. You can enjoy nearly unlimited game play with 30 tables, two different ball arrangements, and the ability to change the degree of friction on the table. You can play against a computer or another human player, so try challenging someone once you've got the hang of the game.
N + Ninja JaJaMaru-kun®

Take on the role of a ninja called JaJaMaru and rescue the captured Princess Sakura from the evil Namazu Dayuu in this action-packed game, previously unreleased outside of Japan. JaJaMaru must use his throwing stars to defeat the monsters lurking in each of Dayuu's many hideouts. JaJaMaru has to be careful though, as each monster has its own unique weapon and method of attacking. The only way for him to advance is to break the floor bricks above him and move up and down between the levels of each round, defeating monsters as he goes. To help him, broken bricks sometimes reveal items that JaJaMaru can use to his advantage, possibly leading to the ultimate power-up: a ride on Gamapakun, the giant frog. Throw in some bonus stages and you've got a game with a style all its own.

The once-peaceful kingdom so familiar to fans of the original Golden Axe is under threat once again. The Prince of Darkness has stolen the invaluable Golden Axe, taken over the kingdom and rendered its warriors harmless with an evil curse. One warrior breaks free from the curse and must defeat the prince and regain the Golden Axe to save the kingdom. In this one- or two-player action game, play as a giant, a panther or a sword-wielding human and fight your way to victory once again.

Wow, the last couple of updates to the Virtual Console have been really strong. If not in content (it's still a matter of taste), you've got to at least recognize the potential. The US and Europe finally saw the addition of the NEOGEO platform, an update that Japan had long before us (along with a few other minor platforms) that opens the gates to more libraries of unbelievably well made classics. Many of which can be considered new titles to those who never had a sweet arcade (they seemed to fade fast in the 90's when home consoles locked in 3D graphics), a rich best friend or uncle (lets face it, almost NOBODY owned a NEOGEO, be we all "knew a kid who knew a kid"), or even a clue that these games existed at all (that's ok, I barely know you exist).

So you'd think Nintendo would pace itself, and really let it sink in, throw a few more NES and Genesis rounds in the pipeline before ANNOUNCING ANOTHER SYSTEM. Ok, so it's technically more TurboGraphx-16, but the TurboDuo is kind of like TG16 in the same way Sega CD is still a Genesis, or how Sub-Zero is sorta like Scorpion (and Reptile, ERMAC, Smoke, Noob Saibot, etc.) There, that should satisfy those who would argue about it. No, really though, the point is, MORE software potential, on a rare platform, today. And their kicking it off with the system's original pack-in game which happens to be one of the most heralded Shooters ever.N + Ninja Gaiden II™: The Dark Sword of ChaosEditor note: When I had this game as an LK, I thought it was pronounced "Chowse"NES®, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Mild Violence, 500 Wii PointsIn Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, a new villain, Ashtar, is revealed. Blast through stages while effectively using all three of the weapons at your disposal and receiving support from ally Wild Cat ships. Hard-core shooting-game fans looking for a challenge can select HARD or DEVIL mode to experience even more intense action!

Holy crap. I'm excited and disappointed at the same time. On one hand, I feel like Smash Bros. sold-out/caved-in/did-it-for-fanservice. But as a friend pointed out to me: Smash Bros. is all about fanservice. To be honest, I'm just jealous that Megaman hasn't been revealed yet.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG.This was originally posted on the German version of the Smash Bros Dojo, which explains my awesome image-capturing skills to the right (Best reward for staying up late--EVER). As soon as I posted this entry, the English version of the Dojo updated with the Sonic news. Some pictures [posted after the break] and a video has been posted on the Smash Bros. Dojo Website. I lost count of how many times I watched the video.
Sonic's back with his patented spin dash and hopefully some speed that will give Fox McCloud a run for his money. He's also able to use his classic springboard (which includes the epic *SPROING* noise) and a dastardly downwards dash kick. His Final Smash allows him to gather the power of the seven
Dragon Balls Chaos Emeralds and turn into Super Sonic.

Man, I thought the last update was crazy. This week takes the latest European Virtual Console update a few steps further by landing 3 popular NEOGEO fighting titles on North American shores. Three. NEO. GEO. Fighting. Three. It's a great day to be a retro arcade enthusiast, and a terrible day to be a hardware collector. What once would have cost you well over $1,000.00 can now be picked up for 900wp per title. I hope no one ever complains about the price of NEOGEO games on Virtual Console. I'm not saying they're the best value... it's just, some people sold babies for this stuff. ...I miss Timmy.[

To rescue her, Ryo and Robert must take on numerous enemies around South Town, eventually reaching the mysterious Mr. Karate. The passion of the game's creators is evident in the unique game-play elements introduced. These include an energy gauge that is depleted every time a fighter uses a special maneuver, Desperation Attacks that are usable only when a fighter's health is low and camera zooming that adjusts on the fly as fighters move around the stage. All these features ensure that players use strategy and tactics, rather than simply mash buttons. Better late than never. Sick and working like a dog, I almost forgot to publish this post! This week, Nintendo threw 4 games up on the Virtual Console, probably to entice all the Americans with Monday off for Labor Day. It's called Labor Day and everyone has off from work... Pfft...

Grab a Flower Copter or exchange 16 Smileys at the end of each round to play up to eight different bonus stages. Or you can change the size of Bonk by grabbing the new red or blue candy items. Depending on the situation, you can change your size to bonk your way through a dead end or to get a hard-to-reach item. And if that's not enough, you can grab a friend and put your heads together to defeat King Drool in the new two-player mode.
