New Reggie Interview: Talks Wii HD, Zelda Spirit Tracks, and Mario Bros Wii

, , , ...

Gametrailers.com recently spoke with Nintendo Reggie Fils-Aime to ask him about all the games coming out this Winter season, such as Super Mario Bros Wii and The Legend of Zelda, Spirit Tracks. He also debunks (again) the possibility of Wii HD coming out next year. Good interview with lots of new info!

Resident Evil 5 COULD Be On Wii

, , ,

In an interview with NowGamer, Capcom producer Masachika Kawata teased the possibility of a Wii edition of Resident Evil 5. However, he does ditch the idea first.

Hypothetically speaking, the Resident Evil 4 engine would work perfectly for replicating the gameplay but we would never be able to recreate the graphical quality. A gun shooting game like Darkside Chronicles makes much more sense for Wii so, in short, Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition isn't likely to happen. Having said that, Cavia [the developer] has surprised us with the quality of graphics in Darkside Chronicles, so it may actually be possible after all…"

PS: The boxart is NOT official.

Miyamoto: Want Kid Icarus on Wii? Please wait.

, , ,

Way back in 1987 and amid the hype caused by a certain plumber, a winged kid made its debut. Now, the franchise enjoys a cult following and it is one of the most awaited IPs on the Wii. We are referring to, of course, Kid Icarus.

However, and as you might have noticed, the game has been taunted at and promised for many E3, and this last iteration it wasn't even mentioned at all. Nintendo Power also noticed this and asked Miyamoto about it. Here's what he had to say.

Wait, please. I'm really surprised how popular that is. But you are the first person to ask at this E3!

So, wait. Again. Some more. Maybe next year he'll come up with a drawing of the game (oh, snap!) ¬.¬

Super Mario Galaxy 2 to Eliminate Story

, , , ...

Did you enjoy the (optional) backstory regarding Rosalina and the Lumas in Super Mario Galaxy? We hope you're not expecting something similar in the sequel due out next year.

Speaking to Wired.com, legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto said that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't have a deep story, if he has his way (and let's be honest: he always does). His reasoning for cutting the story?

I just feel that the Mario games are something that should be a much more bright and active experience. With the Mario games, you don’t need to have such a complicated setting where you have these particular characters with complicated backstories that can weigh down the bright and fun feel of the game. [...] They always want to have these dramatic scenes where Princess Peach gets kidnapped, but I always tell them, no, it’s fine — Princess Peach likes cake, so you can just have them use cake as bait to kidnap Princess Peach, and that’s enough.

So, that's what Miyamoto thinks, and according to Chris Kohler at Wired, that stance might be causing some internal problems at Nintendo. Apparently, Yoshiaki Koizumi, the director of the Mario series, told Kohler that he often tries to sneak bits of story into Mario titles, with or without Miyamoto's approval.

We want to know: what do you think about stories in your Mario games? Do you side with Miyamoto or Koizumi? Let us know in comments.

Miyamoto: Wii Zelda Might Be Swordless

, , , ...

Shigeru Miyamoto can't stop thinking about Zelda. He semi-announced it in a developer roundtable, and even showed off the first piece of art. Now, he has some more textual teases for us, in the form of an IGN interview.

Speaking to the IGN Nintendo team, the legendary game designer had this to say about a radically different Zelda for Wii:

Miyamoto: Well, the story setting for this Zelda is, of course, in a completely different era and Link is older than he was previously. More approaching adulthood. There is one hint. Maybe from the art work you can see that he's not holding a sword.

IGN: Has he lost his Master Sword?

Shigeru Miyamoto: [Laughing] I just wanted to make sure that you understand we are making it. That's all I'm going to say on that subject.

A Zelda game without a sword? Madness! :D We want to hear your thoughts in comments.

Reggie Teasing Surprise for Miyamoto's Roundtable

, , , ...

Not satisfied by Nintendo's press conference today? New Super Mario Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid: Other M just weren't "core" enough for you? First, you might need to speak to a therapist, but secondly, you might be interested in this little tidbit from an IGN interview with NoA president Reggie Fils-Aime.

When asked about the absence of Pikmin 3 at Nintendo's conference, Fils-Aime responded:

Matt, we're all about surprises. We will show that game when it's ready. At the right time. Close to when it's going to be launched. It's not there yet. But Mr. Miyamoto still has his roundtable to do, so maybe you'll see. Maybe you might get that surprise after all.

Later, when specifically asked about a surprise at the roundtable, Reggie had this to say:

Again, we're always trying to surprise you. So we'll see.

We had also heard rumblings of a post-E3 conference in Japan, but it turns out that that conference is just being held to display already unveiled titles to Japanese retailers.

Excited? Miyamoto's developer roundtable starts in about 7 minutes (9 PM EST), and we'll be sure to keep you updated on anything we hear.

N+erview: Doujah Raze of Madworld

, , , ...

Hey guys, it's your Captain back with another musician N+erview. This time though, we've got Doujah Raze, one of the Hip Hop musicians who worked on MadWorld, which just released yesterday in North America! A word of caution before you cross the line: language is used "freely". For the most part, it's pretty clean, but if you are easily offended watch out as one or two words might spark something. Now, enough of the small talk, "Read more..." about the music behind the game, and the artist behind the music!

Ten Questions for Reggie

, ,

Recently, Gamedaily sat down with Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime to ask him some questions that were submitted by their viewers. For example, one of the questions asked was:

Is Nintendo interested in developing many new IPs currently? And if so, are they interested in expanding to other genres and perhaps even more Mature games, not just in language and violence but in themes similar to games like Hotel Dusk?

We're always developing new games and experiences and part of that includes looking at whether it makes sense to create new franchises and new characters. Some gamers want completely new games, while others want another Mario or Zelda game the minute they finish playing the one that just came out. Striking that balance keeps us all very busy! Nintendo makes games for everyone, so you'll find everything from E-rated to M-rated titles. I'm glad you enjoyed Hotel Dusk: Room 215. It flew a bit under the radar when it was released, but it's a different kind of game and I've heard from a lot of people who really enjoyed it.

Suda 51 Targets North America

You all should love him by now. Suda 51 is the writer, director, lead artist, programmer, and lead designer among many other titles, at Grasshopper Manufacture (Killer 7, No More Heroes). If Jedi were real, this guy is one step down from Jedi Miyamoto and will be his successor. Be it for a different company, the man makes insanely unique games. Recently he's done an interview with Game Developer Magazine about No More Heroes 2 and how he likes GHM to be run.

N+erview: XOC

, , , ...

Awesome, awesome, AWESOME! N+ was not only able to get an interview with the man himself, but we also scored a sweet affiliation while we were at it . We now always have a permanent link to his main page in our affiliates section to the right of our page, making it easier to get to his music.

XOC and I are discussing some sort of something we can do for N+ readers as a contest for a prize or two - details are still fuzzy, but stay tuned. Within this interview XOC also gives you all the opportunity to donate your own musical creations to one of his projects so it can be on the album - and maybe even get your face in the cover art!

So hours after being handcuffed and pummeled in the N+ interrogation room, XOC opened up, he told us all that we wanted to know, and we are going to share the top secret information with all of you!

If you are ultra new to N+ or missed the previous posts, please visit them first. XOC covers Mario and XOC covers Kirby. Once you are done with those, adjust your speaker volume and read more for the interview...

Reggie and Miyamoto Talk Storage Solutions, More

, , , ...

In a recent interview with Club Nintendo, Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto addressed the increasingly annoying issue of Wii storage space. Miyamoto confirms that Nintendo is exploring all possible options to solve the problem, and Fils-Aime adds that Nintendo will not resort to a "traditional hard drive", but will create a solution that is "better than what we have now". Why does Nintendo have to over-complicate things? Wii owners have been asking for a hard drive for ages, just GIVE US ONE ALREADY. Ahem.

Miyamoto was also asked about Wii MotionPlus, and its possible incorporation into a new Zelda game. Miyamoto again confirmed that Nintendo is working on new Zelda and Pikmin titles, but declined to comment on Wii MotionPlus use.

Miyamoto went on to say that Wii owners shouldn't expect new peripherals any time soon, as he feels there are more than enough available for the Wii at the present time.

Guitar Hero: World Tour to Feature Wii Music Mode

, , , ...

Vicarious Visions also re-confirmed that the Wii version of World Tour will include all features of the other versions - online play and DLC.
