Insane Kills

, , , ...

Well if you don't know by know, then get educated: Manhunt 2 was rated down from AO to M based off of the way the stealth kills are obscured in game. You may remember saying that I thought it improved the games flavor as opposed to destroying it. Anyway I got 3 new videos that we can peek at showing off the new stealth kills and exactly how they look...

"Read More" if you are 17 years old or older for the videos, if your not at least 17 then you shouldn't worry about getting this game anyway.

Killer New Video

One last trailer has been released by Rockstar Games for their latest controversial title, Manhunt 2. A title I have been looking forward to since I first heard of it's production. Game one was amazing, seriously, if you are a fan of stories in games, they don't get much more unique than Manhunt. Suda 51 and his team Grasshopper Manufacture, I think are the only rivals to Rockstar in story and plot when it comes to their Manhunt franchise.

Anyway for the 17 years old or older audience who wants to dig the latest trailer for Manhunt 2 "Read More"...

The Hunters

, , , ...

Rockstars Manhunt 2 is set to come out in the very near future, on October 31st aka Halloween. Rockstar has just sent out a little bit of information of three of the classes of hunters in the game. If you played the first game then you know how having different types of hunters drives the story. Where you are, why these particular hunters are hunting you, and even how the "puzzles" in the certain areas work depends on these guys psyche. The 3 hunters they show off are The Ward Guards, The Deviants, and The Project Security.

The official Manhunt 2 website has had huge upgrades lately. There are downloads (like an awesome screensaver!) and pictures icons and all that, but whats neat is when you take the virtual tour of the Dixmor Asylum Ward and Patient Files (flash needed). The ward has alot of files that are hard to read, but offer really deep preview into the story and what went on before you woke up nuts in the game. You also get two really well put together (officialy voice cast) study sessions with the nurse and the two main characters of the game Leo Kasper, and you Daniel Lamb. They are interactive to play a number of different tapes of each character. If you are older than 18 I HIGHLY recomend checking out the page, they did an awesome job with the entire presentation. A REALLY awesome job.

"M" 2

, , , ...

Manhunt 2 has gone from it's own death in the "AO" rating to it's resurrecting "M" rating. Now all of us horror fans can get a chance to play a really great game, and no, not JUST because of the kills. If you played through the first one you know that Manhunt (at least so far) really presents an involving story. Stories that really haven't been told before in Video Game media. Hopefully Manhunt 2 continues the 8mm genred tale just as well as M1. But what changes were made to the game to warrent executing the "AO" and securing the "M" rating? Thankfully Rockstar had given IGN demo time with the un-rated copy (wich turned AO after demoing), and also demo time with the "M" version, They wrote a couple page article on what went where just so we would know what we are missing out on. Games Radar also got a before and after play and they gave their impression story. I am just going to list off what they said changed, not alot of stuff, but they are sorta big... sorta.

  • Added Dailogue! (possibly Wii exclusive) - says gamespot.com
  • No longer can you pull a guys' "guys" of with the pliers
  • No longer can you rip vertabrae out with the pliers
  • Death Strikes pulsate strange colors, light flashes, motion blur, and darker lighting.
Seriously that is ALL that has been claimed to have changed, although IGN makes a pretty big deal about the Death Strike changes. Claiming it to be next to impossible to see anything going on now. I hope they over exaggerate a ittle bit on this because all the death strikes in M1 were clear as crystal. As far as I see it it might be more beneficial to the "feeling" of the game. See in the first game you wanted the "camera-glitch film" screens because of the voyeur "feeling", in M2 you aren't beeing filmed for film creation, you are insane. If what they did matches up with what the teaser trailer showed, the game is going to rock harder than before. As for the mentioned plier kill, eh - it woulda been cool, but VERY uncrutial to the overall game I am sure. I am still pretty excited for the game, as the first one really blew me away, and this one looks promising. There are also a few new screens in the Manhunt 2 Gallery.

- What are your thoughts on the changes? enough to warrent the rating change? wanted the game before but not now? didn't want it before but are now thinking about it?

Manhunt 2: M for Mature

, , , ...

Manhunt 2 officialy gets the "M for Mature" rating from the ESRB and yes, I am pumped even though it seems that it has come at the cost of some minor editing to the game. Take Two and Rockstar have posted the official press release declaring an M rating and a release date set for October 31, 2007 aka Halloween. No word yet on what is happening with this game in Europe or the rest of the world yet.

Read More for the official statement, and if you want to celebrate with me, head over to the new, clean, and HUGE Manhunt 2 Gallery, just make sure you know that screenshots are violent and may not be suitable for people under the age of 17.

Don't hate me because I am beautiful, and don't hate me because I love horror. You can hate me for running over your cat, not everyone prefers to hit dogs...

At This Rate...

At this rate, video-games are never going to recieve an equal light in the realm of entertainment. Rockstars new adventure into the realm of horror entertainment is being blocked out of publication due to the "AO" or Adults Only rating the ESRB has given it. Europe as continent has decided that it will not allow sales of the game within it's lands.

What exactly does AO stand for? read more to hear my opinions, and please, make yours known as well... be advised that mature related discussion will take place inside, no bad-words, bad links, or bad images, if any bad-worded comments are made I will delete them, just a mature themed topic. you are now advised...

Manhunt 2 No Longer 'M' for Mature + Rockstar Answer

, , , ...

With the recent outlaw of Manhunt 2 in the UK, both PS2 and Wii versions, the game has been in the news. It has affirmed it's place in the headlines with the recent decision from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB).

Manhunt 2 for the Playstation 2 and Wii has been rated Adults-Only and, as a result, will more than likely not be carried by a majority of retail stores such as Walmart and Target. Take-Two Interactive said the following in a press release:

"The ESRB has issued an initial rating of AO (Adults Only) for Manhunt 2 (and) we believe the process of rating videogames is to help people make informed entertainment choices and not to limit them. Manhunt 2 was created for mature audiences and we strongly believe it should receive an M (Mature) rating, aligning it with similar content created in other forms of media. We are exploring our options with regard to Manhunt 2."

This is following a campaign being led by Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, who has been urging folks to email ESRB employee Patricia vance to bump the rating of the game to AO for the Wii version, comparing the came to an X rated or unrated movie, citing the cause with the "unprecedented combination of video game violence and the interactive Wii platform."

Remember: 'M' means 17 and older, while 'AO' means 18 and older.

UPDATE: Rockstar has responded to the new rating:

“This is completely unexpected to the whole team. We love the horror genre. We thought we could do something interesting and entertaining with it in the video game medium. When we had this first Manhunt game, there wasn’t this reaction. We thought [Manhunt 2] was consistent with a mature rating.”

If Rockstar appeals to the ESRB, or edits the game content, the rating could be lowered.

A few updates that have been sitting in the internet, not getting many reports. So I said "hey, alot of Nplussers love Manhunt, why not bring them this news"? - So here I am bringing you some not-terribly-new footage, but probably new to most of you, along with some terribly new concept art. It is advised that you are 17 or older to view the Gameplay trailer or view some of the concept art. I trust you all are using your best judgement.

I don't know how many of you played Manhunt on the PS2 or the XBOX, but I did, and I loved it. I, along with my cousin, played through every level obtaining five stars on the brutal "hardcore" setting. - Anyway my gloating is besides the point, the point is, that the super-ultra-massiv-hardcore killing game has a sequal comming out on psp, ps2, and Wii. This isn't exactly new news though, we already have reported on it. However today I will be showing you a second teaser video, as well as screenshots. The second video, which can be found when you click "read more", does show off much more than the original trailer does, which will also be included for easy referencing.

The Manhunt is on...W!!?

Wha Wha Whaaaaaa!? It's true, so strangely true. Rockstar must be taking notes on Nintendo's success and "new direction" while Nintendo reviews it's notes from it's old direction. Because the sequel to the industries most undeniably violent video game "Manhunt", is comming to Wii.

Now Personally, I HAVE to defend the first game, I loved it. I loved it to death. The play mechanics were pretty much all presented to you at the start, so it wasn't like a Zelda game where you get to always look forward to learning new techniques as you go, but the difficulty really did grow, and you really had to think quick. It was dark, it was a trip, and it was a game that you remembered if you played it through. The playstion two also let you utilize the headphones to hear the secret 'headset' messages your 'boss' wanted you to hear, which was pretty neat, but the headset was wired to the system with a very short wire so it turned out bad. The Wii-Remote has a built in speaker - 'nuff said.

There are a couple things to be said here: One, Nintendo is really pushing for all developers to make the games they want, and not shy from Nintendo. And two, The developers are listening, espessially if a company like Rockstar heeds the call. Im hoping that great games like Red Dead Revolver make some sort of appearance, or Max Payne. Max Payne was a lovely drama that fit any Noir fans appetite for game-noir.

The story this time is VERY unclear so far, but what we will confirm is that you are not the same character as last time, this time it sounds like (from the teaser) you play a character named "Daniel Lamb", and it doesnt seem to be any sort of continuation or tie in at all so far. Also what is unlcear but seems very unlikely is that you are "working" for the same guy as the first one "Starkweather". If you want to find out just about everything I know about the second game go to The Official Website to watch (and download in multiple formats) the teaser, find out a little information on the product, and eventually pre-order. The video is really cool, and gives pretty much nothing away.

Rockstar had this to say about it:

With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward, We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds. - Sam Houser (Rockstar founder, Exec Producer)

What I keep thinking about is... the controlls for Wii, I mean seriously, Jack Thompson is going to throw a party with this. If I have to mimic batting some dudes brains out, or pretend to sicle intestines, this will draw attention for sure. Im acutally looking forward to this game, as it will "color the pallette" so to speak of my Wii colection, and also let me delve into a darker story. Speaking of this darkness let it be known that Rockastar expects this to be rated, and designed it for 18+ year-old gamers only:

We believe Manhunt 2 is a great entertainment experience for fans of psychological thrillers and urban horror. It's a chilling and compelling drama and is only appropriate for people who are old enough to play it. [Our games are] as diverse as the stories in books, film and television. We respect those who have different opinions about the horror genre and video games as a whole, but we hope they will also consider the opinions of gamers. Rockstar submits every game to the appropriate bodies for rating and classification and in the case of Manhunt 2 it is clearly a game aimed at an adult audience and we anticipate that it will receive an 18+ rating.

How do you feel about this? did you play the first one? did you like it? hate it? interested in number two (not poo silly!)? why or why not? - tell us!
