Shining Opportunites

, , ,

Hey everyone, I need some help. Recently I decided to finally go through with my long time thought of having a pokemon team full of ghosts! I know some of you will say that there are better choices than what I chose because of secondary types and stuff, and while I know that's true, I still wanted to go with my favorite Ghosts. I know that Frillish for instance would be great because I could surf... but Jellicent looks dumb, and nothing like a ghost. Drifloom would allow me to fly... but he's not that cool either, I mean he's ok, but nothing special to me.

So what you see here is my current team of ghosties, two of them are shiny (Duskull and Banette)! and I would like the rest to be as well. so I need your help replacing a few of them with shiny versions, most specifically Sableye. I have some shiny guys I would be willing to trade, as well as a couple event pokemon, in-case you missed out on any. Or if you are looking for any other kind of Pokemon I could look through to see if I have that too, like one with a special move or nature, or even an Item to hold.

Read more for a list of all the Shiny or Event pokemon I would be willing to trade, as well as an alternate version of my Trainer card with who I would like on my team. Oh and one more thing, I want legit guys, no Action Replay or Gameshark or otherwise hacked guys, chaining to get them is fine however, and I don't care about gender or nature as long as you can nickname it before trading it to me smile I'm naming my guys after the 5 boroughs of New York (and the proposed at one time 6th) I will update this post if I obtain more to offer, as well as if anyone gets me one or more of these requests...

3D Pokedex: Cobalion Freebie

, , , ...

I guess I'm just too excited to wait a few days before posting more! Here is another freebie for your Pokedex 3D: Cobalion

Just like last time, I made this marker and it will actually load the Pokemon into your Pokedex. Many monster markers will scan and the system will tell you an unknown marker has been registered, and when you check the sticker book you will see those markers with no Pokemon on them. Cobalion though will register fully.

Also when you scan this pokemon you will get a sticker! and remember when you are scanning this (and all other monsters) to take a picture because you will get a second sticker! that's two stickers for every marker!

Stickers unlock cool stuff when you collect enough, like: Pokemon Cries, and a pause button so you can take pictures of them in cool poses!

Pokemon: 3DS Pokedex

, , ,

How cool is it that right after Anton uploads a very scary Pokemon theme to N+, we get news of a new Pokemon game for the 3DS? Unfortunately it is not a new RPG, but that's ok because I still haven't completed much of my Black pokedex smile

This new game is a free free FREE 3DSWare download from the eShop when it goes live next week! It is actually more of an application, a 3D Unova Region Pokedex application to be exact. It's a pretty useful tool because it shows you how to evolve any pokemon, like by levels and stones or whatever, as well as base stats and moves they can learn at certain levels. I am not sure if the application shows you where to catch the monsters, but hopefully it does. The monsters will be displayed in full animated 3D, and it looks like you can choose different wallpapers for your selected monster too.

You don't get all the monsters at first though, the game will support both Streetpass and Spotpass modes. You begin with 16 seemingly random entries, and when you Streetpass someone with different entries you will share them with each other. Spotpass will also let you get three new entries a day, I'm not sure how many you will be allowed to receive through the Streetpass mode, or through the added ability to scan QR codes for entries. I think I will create a gallery or something filled with Pokemon QR Codes! There is also an Augmented Reality mode to let you take photos of the monsters! Visit the Pokemon Gallery for more pictures!

N+ Design: Red Gyarados & The Lake Of Rage

, , , ...

I guess it depends where you live, but this spring has been dumping the rain on us in the Colorado foothills! Maybe it's because of all this rain I decided to do a rainy design theme for N+. Maybe it's because I have a box full of shiny pokemon (which by the way are all legit!), and I wanted to create a theme using a shiny.

Whatever the reason was I decided to create some fan-art for the website revolving around the crazy storm the shiny red Gyarados is causing at the Lake of Rage found in Gold/Silver/Crystal versions as well as the Heart Gold and Soul Silver remakes of the games. This is the first time N+ has been dressed in the remakes colors, though it has once been dressed in the "classic" colors. The shiny red Gyarados is so far the only shiny pokemon in the series that you have a 100% chance of encountering and having the ability to catch. In some places in the series you are guaranteed to battle a shiny or two, but they belong to another trainer so your out of luck. Also in the classic G&S generation, the first egg the daycare couple gives to you has a really high chance of hatching shiny (like 25% or something). Nintendo from time to time will also have mystery gift events with shiny guys.

So, tell me what you think! Is the art nice? I tried to get it to look like wet paint, sort of a lesson for myself. I am pretty pleased with the outcome! Well, if you DO like the artwork you can drop by the ol' N+ design gallery and catch the Red Gyarados wallpaper for yourself!

Pokemon B&W: C-Gear Freeze

, , , ...

Many people are having issues with the C-Gear in Pokemon Black and White versions freezing when they try and connect to WiFi. When you first turn the game on and it asks you if you want to start with C-Gear on and you say yes, there is no problem, and then at any time while playing the game outside of a battle you can turn the C-Gear off.

The next step is where many people are having problems, turning the C-Gear back on while playing. To get it back on you press the "power button" on the touch screen, and it gives you a message: "Turn on the C-Gear and establish connections?" with "yes" and "no" being the choices as ell as a warning about using wireless in hospitals and airplanes. Many people experience the "freeze" at this point, no matter how many times they press the "A" or "B" buttons, it just doesn't go forward or back-out, you still get music and top-screen animations (like rain and nearby trainers moving) but the game pretty much stops. The solution: Use the touch-screen! You have to TAP an answer for it to connect or decide not to connect.

Then the game displays a message "When commuications are on, closing the system will put it into Sleep Mode if the battery is low. Please watch the battery." and shows a red wireless connection icon... that never turns green. This is where I was freezing up. The game appeared to be trying to connect but could not, none of the buttons were working, and there were no "buttons" displayed on the touch-screen! I still had top-screen animations and music though. Again, the solution: TAP the bottom-screen. This time there is nothing to even suggest that you should tap the screen, not even fake on-screen buttons, just an icon that suggests that the game is working on connecting.

It appears that the game really wants you to be aware of not using wireless in prohibited places. It's a good idea to warn people about things like that, but the user interface is poorly designed. This is the only menu I can think of in the game where the only input is touch, and the "A,B" buttons do nothing. I thought I had to turn the system off when the game did this to me, so a few times I lost some progress sad - don't be fooled, I have discovered that MANY people are having this "problem" and loosing progress by doing what I did.

Just remember if the game "freezes": TAP THE TOUCH-SCREEN.

Pokemon Global Link: Opens April 13th

, ,

Remember when we posted that the Pokemon Global Link opening was delayed because of the effects the earthquake and tsunami had over in Japan? Well it looks like the new date has been set for thursday, April 13th, 2011. So now Pokemon Black and Pokemon White players can go online with their games to check out the Pokemon Dreamworld and Global Battle Union.

As a collector I'm more excited about the Dreamworld. Here you can get a hold of some Pokes with some moves they can't get anywhere else! Also at times the Dreamworld will let you take back special C-Gear and Pokedex skins for use in the game! But hey, for all the fighters the Battle Union lets you check your rankings against the world, and even take part in Official Pokemon Tournaments! That's pretty awesome because some people couldn't make it when they would tour across the globe.

Who else is excited?!

Pokemon Global Link On Hold

, , ,

The earthquake in Japan is putting the Pokemon Global Link (PGL) launch date on hold. This also affects features that rely on the PGL, like Game Sync found on your trainers' C-Gear, Global Battle Union, Dream World, and the Random Matchup challenge found in the Rating Mode. Here is the statement as found on the PGL website:

The Pokemon Global Link was scheduled to launch on March 30, 2011. As a result of the earthquake in Japan and the need to conserve energy resources, the launch date has been temporarily delayed. When a new launch date is determined, it will be posted here on the Pokemon Global Link. We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience caused by this delay.

Satoshi Tajiri is Alive

, , , ...

First, let me tell you it's terrible that I even have to wright this post, people need to stop taking random unverified news as legit news and spread it around as if it's fact. You may be seeing Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking messages circulate the internet about Satoshi Tajiri, the father of Pokemon having died after the initial quake in Japan. Well those are all spread rumors that are just not true! Satoshi Tajiri is alive!

Someone started some hoax, and without checking sources people spread this rumor as fact, and it filled up social networking sites, and friends have begun telling each other over the phone and emails, and it's gotten pretty big. Please spread the good news and stop the false bad news if you can. And if you want to help out with donations to Japan check out our dedicated donation page with different options for doing just that. Also using one of the links on that page, you can click the people finder and see that Satoshi Tajiri is alive.

Pokemon B&W 3DS Enhanced?

, , , ...

UPDATE: The answer is "No". So far we have not been able to notice any enhancements to the game when played on a 3DS system.
You may read the following article knowing that it was written prior to the 3DS release:
-------------------------------------- N+ --------------------------------------

I was getting ready to do a very large post that would outline all the reasons I believe that Pokemon: Black and White versions will have 3DS enhanced visuals and features. But luckily during a mail-bag session of questions from IGN to Nintendo, Nintendo had pretty much said what we needed to hear:

CAN I PLAY MY OLD GAMES?
A. The 3DS will be backwards compatible with all DS and DSi games. Those games will not be able to display imagery in 3D despite being used on the 3DS. However, some games, most notably Pokémon Black & White, will gain some enhanced functionality when played on the new system. These cases should be considered extremely rare, however.

It's pretty dang important to note thought that part of this quote has now been removed from where they posted it. Either because they made some stuff up, Nintendo realized that they were not supposed to give that much information out and asked them to "forget" that part, or some other reason. They also included an image showing a thumbs-up (up) over Pokemon Black, as well as some other games... does this graphic simply state that these games will run? or that these three games specifically will have added features or 3D depth?

Now as far as what the Pokemon games get in the added features (if fact), I can't find anything anywhere where Nintendo may have said what they are. I can tell you MY thoughts though, as I have played through the main story of the game, all the way through the Elite Four and entering the Hall of Fame on my Japanese Black version:

3D Visuals:
When battling, the camera moves in deep, and far out for different attacks, it also pans left and right and up and down, it just goes all over the place, and if you sit idle for long enough the camera "gets bored" and drifts around aimlessly. This to me is a clue to being a "fun" little action when enabled with 3D visuals, and kind of pointless when there are no 3D visuals. Also attacks that have "spray" effects to them like water blasts or fire blasts or drifting leaves, also seem to be designed in more of a back to front or front to back (depending on being attacked or attacking) perspective, and would only be enhanced with 3D to make more sense, however with 3D off it still gives a good illusion of depth, so maybe this could be just a good trick to look better IF 3D enhancment is NOT real.

When you are getting "info" on one of your monsters, the data: abilities, attack, Original Trainer, etc, are displayed on the top screen as always, but inside a more complex visual design, that looks to me, like it has more layers - again if 3D were turned on this would give stronger reason to the "layer" look of the data pages.

World ares have many forced perspective changes. The camera gets very low in certain areas like walking through the huge city, over the long very large Golden Gate like Bridge, as well as other areas that would benefit greatly with 3D enhanced depth, as well as times when the camera gets VERY far away from your character, one time specifically I remember is walking across a very long bridge and the camera went very far up in the sky to go OVER the "tips" of the bridge structures that hold the cables for supporting the bridge, something that would look VERY cool in 3D, and is to a small degree a little pointless in 2D.

Hardware / Software Features
Spot Pass functionality is screaming in my ears when thinking about the "Dream World" you have online. You may be able to have the dream world be affected every time the 3DS comes across a WiFi signal. Street Pass is an easy function to change the whole "Black City" vs "White Forest" areas that are exclusive to each game. When players interact with each other using the "High Link" feature, the other persons City / Forest gets changed somehow, and why not make it go the extra mile with these "Pass" features?

A pedometer built right into the 3DS can totally expand the poke-walker functionality of counting steps to help with some in-game goodness. It could help Pokemon who need certain affection levels to evolve get to that state with much more ease. Or how-about hatching an egg?

These are just some of the things that caught my eyes while playing through the game myself, and I was even thinking about all this WHILE I was playing through, well before the rumors even went around the web. Almost every step of the way I felt like I was playing a game ready for 3DS. Also just look at the CRAZY launch timing of what could be the biggest release of a new Pokemon RPG since Red and Blue. Depending on your region in the world the Pokemon games come out DAYS before the new system. I doubt Nintendo would try to instantly make Black and White obsolete games.

Do you remember the original Gold and Silver games? most people remember them as Gameboy Color games, but they weren't. Oh no, they were regular old Gameboy games that got full GBC functionality, Crystal was the "Only For Gameboy Color" game! The infrared port, and the amazing color palette were used with Gold and Silver! Some people may argue that all Gameboy games had color when played on GBC because they were designed with the Super Gameboy for SNES in-mind, and while that's true, NON of them could match the amazing palette of Gold and Silver, and certainly not with that many colors on the screen at once. Those games were made for GBC, but released so that Gameboy owners could play too, WITHOUT adopting a new system right away. Yes, it makes perfect sense that Nintendo should 3DS enhance Black and White, you get ALL of the current DS model market to play to, as well as having a "Killer App" for your new device for early (and late) adopters as well.

I know that some people have been on the fence about the 3DS' "launch window" and weather or not they should get one right away. I think that if Pokemon is 3DS enhanced, many of those fence-sitters will jump into the new yard and get one right away. What about you? do you think that these games are or are not enhanced on 3DS? were you on the fence about 3DS, and now feel differently? Tell us in the comments!
