RUMOR: Smash WiiU Character Leak

, , ,

This is a rumor, because some "Anonymous" mystery person posting in 4chan forums "leaked" some of the documents involving designs, character lists, descriptions, and even game-title "Smash Brothers Universe". We all know what it means to have someone in a forum say they have information and then release something like this, it doesn't mean squat until it's confirmed by Sakurai.

That being said let's jump into discussion at the supposed information, by reading more about who is in the game and what they can do past the break...

Rumor: Gamestop Got Xenoblade Released

, , , ...

The rumor, because the source is some unidentifiable ninja ghost, is that Gamestop itself persuaded Nintendo to release the game in the United States, and is even helping with the publishing costs. They also say that Nintendo will be watching Xenoblade sales very closely as a gauge in deciding what to do with The Last Story, another fan favorite RPG destined to be released in Europe. It seems though the pre-orders for Xenoblade Chronicles are not going as well as Nintendo had hoped.

If you are one of the fans who said you would get the game if it came out in the US, I would say it that as gentlemen and ladies of your honor, you will need to buy it when it launches. Why not pre-order it too, just to help push Nintendo into releasing the other one earlier, if at all.

Rumor: Xenoblade Chronicles For North America +UPDATE

, , ,

UPDATE: Looks like it's confirmed! Nintendo said (via it's Facebook Page) Xenoblade is coming to the United States as a Gamestop exclusive in April 2012, but only the United States... sorry Mexico and Canada. You may read the rest of this post, but it's all old-hat now. However if you "Read More..." you can see all the official information on the game

A strange listing found in Gamestop pre-order catalogue reads "Xenoblade Chronicles GS Exclusive" with a supposed release date of 4/3/2012, many believing "GS Exclusive" to mean Game Stop, and making this one game to only come out at the retailer, though it could also mean Game Stop has it's own exclusive bundle, like with a red controller pro (that Europe has). This rumor is spreading crazy over the interwebs, and hopefully it's true because many people are now completing Skyward Sword, and will have nothing left to look forward too on the Wii, well nothing other than the amazing television series Arrested Development revival for a fourth and final season as a Netflix exclusive... which we all know streams to Wii consoles more effectively than the competition.

One N+ moderator Dustin Wilson has written up his review of the game here on the site, and constantly claims it's probably the best game on the Wii, the guy couldn't wait to see IF North America would get it, so he ordered an import and preformed magic, yes I said magic to get the disc to play on his Wii system. Operation Rainfall I am sure is getting pretty pumped as well. Remember this fellow RPG fans... RUMOR.

Rumor: Fatal Frame 3DS [Update]

, , , ...

UPDATE: The 3DS game is real and is called Shinrei Camera. Pulled from 1Up:

The 3DS title will come backed with an "AR notebook," a book which seems normal and harmless enough to the naked eye. Point your 3DS's camera at it in-game, though, and it'll reveal all sorts of things lurking in the pages -- hidden messages, clues to your past, even a hungry demon or two.

"I wasn't all that interested in AR to start with," Kikuchi told Famitsu magazine in this week's issue, "but as I explored the possibilities, I really started to get into it. I thought we could really do something with it if we combined our traditional strengths in horror and adventure with the AR technology. It was a big challenge, but we went through with it, and the result is this style of horror that does away with the boundaries between the natural and the supernatural."

Shinrei Camera will feature three game modes: a story-driven adventure set in the same world as the rest of the Fatal Frame series; a minigame collection that uses the AR notebook; and a "ghost camera" mode that allows you to snap supernatural pictures of yourself and your friends. "One big theme during development was how to incorporate AR into an adventure game," Kikuchi explained. "I think we succeeded in achieving that, because the story uses AR consistently right up to the ending. Compared to previous Fatal Frame titles, though, there isn't as much actual time spent with the game itself -- that's because you'll also be spending time turning pages on the AR notebook and looking around in real life instead of moving your character around within the game."

The rumor that looks like it started with a very trusted industry news magazine, Famitsu, says that a Fatal Frame title is in production for the 3DS. The title also supposedly uses the augmented reality (AR) function in some capacity. It is not known weather this is a remake or a port of any of the four titles out already, or a completely new game. The image we provided here has Fatal Frame 4: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse content for mock-up purposes only. Try it on Wii using the fan translation patch, it's a really spooky game to be playing at night.

On another note, a couple days ago I was thinking how PERFECT the Wii U controller would be for a Fatal Frame game, with the view through the camera being in the motion controlled hand-unit itself... and I discovered one neat little gem...

A Fatal Frame game is confirmed to be in production for Wii or Wii U! The screenshots look like a re-make of number 2 The Crimson Butterfly (PS2). For screenshots visit Fatal Frame Wikia. The game has a project name of Fatal Frame 2011, but this year is almost up, and Tecmo says they would "like to have launch titles for Nintendo's Wii 2 successor platform", the Wii U. This is leading many people to believe its possible the game could be one of these launch titles they would like to put out.

However, because the fourth installment has not been released outside of Japan, it may be possible that either one or both of these games receive the same fatal fate as well... but who knows!

Rumor: multiple tablet controllers on Wii U

, ,

The Examiner said "Matt Ryan from Nintendo of Canada" said that the Wii U can actually use more than one tablet style controller, and only comes packaged with one tablet controller, I'm keeping this as rumor for now, at least until Iwata, Reggie, or Miyamoto say something or game-utilizing proof shows up. But for now read what Canadian Matt says:

"Let me correct something that is a misconception, We said that the Wii U system will come with one Wii U controller, but we haven't said that you can only use one Wii U controller. The fact is that if the developer makes a game or an experience that uses more than one, then anything is possible."

"What we've also talked about is to imagine taking some of the experiences you've had at your own home, putting them on your Wii U controller, and taking that with you somewhere else. That would again get rid of that myth and misconception that only one can be used. So, the possibility is there, but the system will only come with one at this point."

Rumor: Snake Eater 3DS Delayed

, , , ...

Oof! Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D has been delayed for both the United Kingdom and North America claims Kotaku Australia. The old date was set for 2011... or was it? well, yes and no - the original 2011 date was actually intended for Japan, while all other regions had remained date-less.

So I guess really what just happened is that the game received a due date for Europe and the Americas. We are still going to file this under rumor because we haven't seen anything from Konami or Nintendo about this, but Kotaku is a pretty trustworthy source, so... you know.

The latest Project Cafe rumors

, , , ...

There has been a ton of speculation lately involving Nintendo's next gen console, that rumar has it is called "Project Cafe" for now. Here we have gathered up many of the rumors we have found around the interwebs. I know that the Miyamoto/Pikmin cartoon here makes you feel like Pikmin 3 is on the way to Cafe, but sadly that is NOT what we have heard yet, it's just something we want to happen.

First, a 3DS rumor:
- much-loved FPS getting a 'port' to 3DS (most likely Conduit, which we have seen in the works)

Rumor: Wii Successor Coming at E3 [UPDATES: 2]

, , , ...

Earlier today, GameInformer published a story citing "multiple sources" that seemed to confirm that Nintendo would announce the successor to its Wii home console at this years E3. According to GameInformer, the new console is capable of HD output, and its graphics will be on par with those currently found on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Kotaku and IGN later independently confirmed the story, both citing sources that quote the Wii 2 as being "significantly more powerful" than the PS3. IGN later confirmed that the system would output in full 1080p HD.

This is where the story gets more interesting: CVG also confirmed the story, but added a very intriguing piece of information: the new console will supposedly feature a brand new controller that features its own HD screen! Additional sources later informed IGN that the screen on the controller has touch capabilities.

The original GameInformer article pointed toward a late 2012 launch. Nintendo will supposedly announce the Wii 2 in a press release later this month, and then fully reveal the console at their E3 conference on June 7.

Remember our OLD RUMORS?

UPDATE 1: A Babelfish translated page found at french news site 01.net claims even more information, like the project name: Project Café.

Pretty sweet right? well they go on to also say that it will be shown at E3 2011, the crazy touch-screen controller ALSO has regular buttons, a front-facing camera, and can act as a sensor bar for when you want to play Wii games on the system, that it also plays Gamecube games, is pretty similar to XBOX 360, but not enough known to compare it to PS3 yet. They also claim that it will come out around June 2012. Oh, and some specs:

System:
- Processor: IBM PowerPC three Custom hearts.
- Graphics chip: AMD (ATI) - probably a R700 series, with a shader (for the management of the effects) more recent than that of Xbox 360 (probably version 4.1).
- RAM: unknown factor. It would be logical that it is about a unified RAM, as for the 360, with a minimum of 512 Mo.

Controller:
- Size of the screen: 6 inches.
- Ergonomics: numerical cross, L, R, two relaxations, others.
- Touchscreen: individual touch.
- Sensor for Wiimote (the bar-sensor of Wii replaces).
- Camera: frontal.

UPDATE 2: IGN claims more info:

According to our sources, the new Nintendo controller will feature dual analog sticks in addition to standard d-pad and trigger buttons. It'll mirror a Gamecube controller in general function but not in specific form.

Players will actually be able to stream game content to the controller screen from the console. It's unclear at this time what type of content it will be, whether it's full games you can take with you on the go, mini-games or applications.

At E3 in June, our sources also said Nintendo will show first and third party titles at the event, but it's unsure if they'll be playable or only in video form.

Satoshi Tajiri is Alive

, , , ...

First, let me tell you it's terrible that I even have to wright this post, people need to stop taking random unverified news as legit news and spread it around as if it's fact. You may be seeing Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking messages circulate the internet about Satoshi Tajiri, the father of Pokemon having died after the initial quake in Japan. Well those are all spread rumors that are just not true! Satoshi Tajiri is alive!

Someone started some hoax, and without checking sources people spread this rumor as fact, and it filled up social networking sites, and friends have begun telling each other over the phone and emails, and it's gotten pretty big. Please spread the good news and stop the false bad news if you can. And if you want to help out with donations to Japan check out our dedicated donation page with different options for doing just that. Also using one of the links on that page, you can click the people finder and see that Satoshi Tajiri is alive.

Pokemon B&W 3DS Enhanced?

, , , ...

UPDATE: The answer is "No". So far we have not been able to notice any enhancements to the game when played on a 3DS system.
You may read the following article knowing that it was written prior to the 3DS release:
-------------------------------------- N+ --------------------------------------

I was getting ready to do a very large post that would outline all the reasons I believe that Pokemon: Black and White versions will have 3DS enhanced visuals and features. But luckily during a mail-bag session of questions from IGN to Nintendo, Nintendo had pretty much said what we needed to hear:

CAN I PLAY MY OLD GAMES?
A. The 3DS will be backwards compatible with all DS and DSi games. Those games will not be able to display imagery in 3D despite being used on the 3DS. However, some games, most notably Pokémon Black & White, will gain some enhanced functionality when played on the new system. These cases should be considered extremely rare, however.

It's pretty dang important to note thought that part of this quote has now been removed from where they posted it. Either because they made some stuff up, Nintendo realized that they were not supposed to give that much information out and asked them to "forget" that part, or some other reason. They also included an image showing a thumbs-up (up) over Pokemon Black, as well as some other games... does this graphic simply state that these games will run? or that these three games specifically will have added features or 3D depth?

Now as far as what the Pokemon games get in the added features (if fact), I can't find anything anywhere where Nintendo may have said what they are. I can tell you MY thoughts though, as I have played through the main story of the game, all the way through the Elite Four and entering the Hall of Fame on my Japanese Black version:

3D Visuals:
When battling, the camera moves in deep, and far out for different attacks, it also pans left and right and up and down, it just goes all over the place, and if you sit idle for long enough the camera "gets bored" and drifts around aimlessly. This to me is a clue to being a "fun" little action when enabled with 3D visuals, and kind of pointless when there are no 3D visuals. Also attacks that have "spray" effects to them like water blasts or fire blasts or drifting leaves, also seem to be designed in more of a back to front or front to back (depending on being attacked or attacking) perspective, and would only be enhanced with 3D to make more sense, however with 3D off it still gives a good illusion of depth, so maybe this could be just a good trick to look better IF 3D enhancment is NOT real.

When you are getting "info" on one of your monsters, the data: abilities, attack, Original Trainer, etc, are displayed on the top screen as always, but inside a more complex visual design, that looks to me, like it has more layers - again if 3D were turned on this would give stronger reason to the "layer" look of the data pages.

World ares have many forced perspective changes. The camera gets very low in certain areas like walking through the huge city, over the long very large Golden Gate like Bridge, as well as other areas that would benefit greatly with 3D enhanced depth, as well as times when the camera gets VERY far away from your character, one time specifically I remember is walking across a very long bridge and the camera went very far up in the sky to go OVER the "tips" of the bridge structures that hold the cables for supporting the bridge, something that would look VERY cool in 3D, and is to a small degree a little pointless in 2D.

Hardware / Software Features
Spot Pass functionality is screaming in my ears when thinking about the "Dream World" you have online. You may be able to have the dream world be affected every time the 3DS comes across a WiFi signal. Street Pass is an easy function to change the whole "Black City" vs "White Forest" areas that are exclusive to each game. When players interact with each other using the "High Link" feature, the other persons City / Forest gets changed somehow, and why not make it go the extra mile with these "Pass" features?

A pedometer built right into the 3DS can totally expand the poke-walker functionality of counting steps to help with some in-game goodness. It could help Pokemon who need certain affection levels to evolve get to that state with much more ease. Or how-about hatching an egg?

These are just some of the things that caught my eyes while playing through the game myself, and I was even thinking about all this WHILE I was playing through, well before the rumors even went around the web. Almost every step of the way I felt like I was playing a game ready for 3DS. Also just look at the CRAZY launch timing of what could be the biggest release of a new Pokemon RPG since Red and Blue. Depending on your region in the world the Pokemon games come out DAYS before the new system. I doubt Nintendo would try to instantly make Black and White obsolete games.

Do you remember the original Gold and Silver games? most people remember them as Gameboy Color games, but they weren't. Oh no, they were regular old Gameboy games that got full GBC functionality, Crystal was the "Only For Gameboy Color" game! The infrared port, and the amazing color palette were used with Gold and Silver! Some people may argue that all Gameboy games had color when played on GBC because they were designed with the Super Gameboy for SNES in-mind, and while that's true, NON of them could match the amazing palette of Gold and Silver, and certainly not with that many colors on the screen at once. Those games were made for GBC, but released so that Gameboy owners could play too, WITHOUT adopting a new system right away. Yes, it makes perfect sense that Nintendo should 3DS enhance Black and White, you get ALL of the current DS model market to play to, as well as having a "Killer App" for your new device for early (and late) adopters as well.

I know that some people have been on the fence about the 3DS' "launch window" and weather or not they should get one right away. I think that if Pokemon is 3DS enhanced, many of those fence-sitters will jump into the new yard and get one right away. What about you? do you think that these games are or are not enhanced on 3DS? were you on the fence about 3DS, and now feel differently? Tell us in the comments!

Rumor: Japanese 3DS Dated and Priced... by German Tabloid

, , , ...

It's a tabloid, right? So everything they say has to be questioned, right? Those tabloid junkies can't be telling the truth, can they? With the price they're setting on the 3DS, let's hope THEY'RE NOT... German tabloid "Bild" has published an article where it 'outs' Nintendo's 3DS release date in Japan, price and launch titles included.

According to the article (which, by the way, neglected to state its sources) the handheld system will hit the shelves on November 11th, 2010 and will have an estimated retail price of €200 (USD$270). The date, at least, coincides somehow with past Nintendo launches, so it's not such a farfetched notion; they just put a precise date on a popular speculation. As for the pricing, let's hope they got it wrong and the system is not that expensive.

The article also goes ahead and 'reveals' Nintendo's launch titles to be "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", "Mario Kart 3DS", and "Professor Layton and the Mask Of Miracle".

Nintendo is set to make an OFFICIAL statement in two days (September 29th). Maybe they will also comment on the rumored new WiiMote.

Game Box Art May Have Revealed New WiiMote

, , ,

Should this turn out to be true, then Nintendo must NOT be happy at all. A recently released box-art image for a new (and quite irrelevant) game may have just revealed a new WiiMote that includes MotionPlus within it.

According to the legend on the box, it includes 'a Wii Remote Plus', but the image is just that of a regular WiiMote, and usually, such bundles say 'Wii Remote + MotionPlus'. This, of course, has sparked speculation about Nintendo releasing what it should have released on the first place: a Wii Remote with the accuracy of MotionPlus within its guts.

Of course, this could also be a misprint, someone on their Graphic Design department not being too savvy on Wii terms, or just plain, old, fake art. You be the judge.

Rumor: Retro's Next Title Is ___________; Will Be Shown at E3

, , , ...

Rumors always seem to fly rampant in the days leading up to the major press conferences at E3. IGN, one of the largest gaming websites in the world, is now taking part with what seems like a huge (and apparently credible) reveal. Retro Studios is one of Nintendo's best development teams, and we haven't seen any project from them since the release of Metroid Prime Trilogy. IGN now claims to have inside knowledge of their next project, and they claim it will be shown at E3.

I've posted the reveal after the break, so as to avoid spoiling the surprise for anyone who'd rather watch Nintendo's press conference live. Read at your own risk.

Rumor: Wii Goldeneye Remake In The Works

, , , ...

The rumor mill is hard at work this week. First off is the very official-looking rumor that Activision is currently working on a Wii remake of the über-popular Goldeneye for N64, something a lot of gamers were constantly asking for. But not everything is as good as it sounds.

According to Eurogamer, Activision is currently working on a Goldeneye remake for the Wii, and it has sent surveys including a couple of details such as the image seen in this post and the fact that it will feature 4-player local multiplayer and 8-player online multiplayer modes. The 'downside'? It will feature Daniel Craig's rendition of 007, not Pierce Brosnan's.

The game, according to the report, is set to come out November 2010 (and probably be announced during E3).
UPDATE: Activision is also working on a DS version of the remake; maybe it will be closer to the original N64 game?

Rumor: Official Nintendo Magazine 'Confirms' Pikmin 3

, , ,

I'm taking this as a rumor. According to a post on Official Nintendo Magazine's Twitter account, they got to talk to the Man himself (no, not God... Shiggy Miyamoto) and he confirmed not only that Pikmin 3 is being produced, but that the game is 'well under way'.

Remember those rumors last year that said Pikmin 3 was going to be released somewhere around these days? Well, might not be that accurate, but they may just be a little bit true...
