You Conduit!

, , , ...

It looks like the Wii is finally getting some decent 3rd party support. What with the likes of Madworld and No More Heroes, IGN have posted gameplay footage of a new FPS from High Voltage. It's called Conduit, and it looks rather decent! The Wii excels at FPS, so this should definitely be one to look out for.

So You Want To Be A Boxer

, ,

Whilst playing Undercover Dual Motives on the DS (a review will be up shortly), I came across the above instructions for boxing. Whilst I see what they are trying to convey, I couldn't help but chuckle at the randomness of the pictures chosen for (what I presume are) jabs and punches.

Clear as mud, that.

Virt-Euro-L Console Friday

, , , ...

It's the last week of the Hanabi Festival today, and the updates end with 3 more previously-unreleased-in-the-EU titles.

NEW+ Star Parodier (TurboGraFX - 900 Points)
Hudson Soft’s Star Soldier series gets the parody treatment in Star Parodier, a cutesy shoot ‘em up packed with classic Hudson in-jokes. Play as Bomberman, a Star Soldier fighter or even a flying PC Engine! Originally a CD-Rom release, Star Parodier is also famous for its toe-tapping soundtrack.

NEW+ Digital Champ Boxing (TurboGraFX - 700 Points)
This arcade-style boxing game, previously unseen outside of Japan, features a rare first-person perspective. Take on the world’s greatest prize fighters as you perform powerful jabs, hooks and uppercuts, controlling both of your gloves independently.

NEW+ Grey Lancer (Mega Drive - 800 Points)
Cult classic shoot ‘em up Gley Lancer comes to Virtual Console; its first release outside of Japan! When her father is captured by alien forces, young rookie pilot Lucia takes a prototype fighter on a rescue mission, engaging the enemy across space, underwater or through claustrophobic caves.

If Digital Champ Boxing is anything like Super Punch-Out, I may have to give it a whirl.

The updated list of EUVC games can be found here, along with the NAVC games here, and the Japan VC games here.

I Find It Kind Of Funny, I Find It Kind Of Sad

, , , ...

Ooooo a new Wii game from SEGA and the team behind Viewtiful Joe called Madworld has been announced, and it looks goooooooooood. Here's the official trailer. Those of a nervous disposition (and under 18) may want to look away...

Til Kingdom Come

, , , ...

I quite enjoyed MySims on the Wii. It was fun to play, and highly entertaining. EA have announced a sequel called MySims Kingdom, and it promises to go all medieval on your asses.

It boasts an "epic" storyline, new and old characters, the ability to travel to different lands, and new building abilities. This includes building "contraptions" as well as buildings and furniture. I'm thinking trebuchets and siege towers...

What do you think? Do you like the new theme?

The game will be released on the Wii and DS this Autumn.

Wii Ware Reviews

, , , ...

Just a quick post to let you know that N+ member evaunit6 has created a thread in the forums for people to post their reviews and thoughts on the various Wii Ware titles as they get released.

MK has already given his thoughts on Pop, and it'd be great if we could compile loads of reviews to help people decide what to spend their precious Wii Points on.

Atari Announce Family Trainer For The Wii

, ,

You can just imagine the Atari board meeting:

EXEC 1: Hey! This casual gaming malarkey is really taking off! We should get us some of that!
EXEC 2: You could be onto something there... look at those brain training thingies, and the motion controlled wotsits. People eat that up!
EXEC 1: Let's have a look at what Nintendo are doing. That Wii is the SHIZZLE. Wait a minute... Wii Fit? What's that?
EXEC 1: Well from the looks of it, it's a game that you control with a board.
EXEC 2: A what? A board? Like one of those dance mat things?
EXEC 1: A little. We could so do that! How hard can it be? We'll just release a game with cutesy graphics, and call it "Family... something", you know, to make it look like we care about getting the family involved in gaming.
EXEC 2: Genius! Heeeeeeeey, why not call it "Family Training"? That way it sounds like it's fun for all the family, and the parents will buy it because it'll look like it help the kids get healthier.
EXEC 1: Oh we are gooooood! No wonder we're paid so much!
BOTH HIGH FIVE
EXEC 2: And we'll throw in a gimmick... like a "Family Trainer mat controller".
EXEC 1: Why don't we just use the Wii Balance Board?
EXEC 2: Because people can never have too much tat! In your face, Nintendo! This is sure to get us back on top!

Woah, woah, woah, woah! When Wii Ware launches in Europe on 20th May, we will be getting eight titles. That's two more than the US launch! What's up Ninty? Why is Europe getting some love lately?

I shouldn't get too carried away - US will probably get the extra titles added next week anyhoo.

Here is the line up:

  • Dr. Mario & Germ Buster from Nintendo
  • FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King from Japanese developer SQUARE ENIX
  • Lost Winds from UK developer Frontier

I Skate You So Much Right Now

, , , ...

In some (semi) exciting news, EA are bringing a new installment of the Skate franchise to the Wii and DS.

Skate It uses the Wii's Remote and the DS's touch screen to help pull off some of "the sickest tricks" for "the ultimate skate line". There's not a lot of info on the DS controls, but the Wii version can be controlled by using the Wii Remote like a skateboard, reacting to gestures that mirror actual skate flips and moves. THAT'S NOT ALL! The game also has Balance Board compatibility, giving you another reason to get Wii Fit, if skating's your thing.

Skate It is set for a 2008 release, but there are no further details as yet.

Virt-Euro-L Console Friday

, , , ...

It's the second week of the Hanabi festival, and the EUVC has had some pretty interesting games added to its library.

NEW+ Break In (TurboGraFX - 700 Points)
The makers of pinball classics Alien Crush and Devil’s Crush turn their hands to billiards. In the story-driven Simulation mode, play your way out of trouble when you stow aboard a cruise liner. In Action mode, hone your skills against the computer or up to three friends, and try some trick shots in Technique mode.

NEW+ Cho Aniki (TurboGraFX - 900 Points)
Cho Aniki (meaning ‘Muscle Brothers’) is a quirky Japanese side-scrolling shooter that pits a flying hero or heroine against an onslaught of unusual enemies, assisted by the musclebound siblings Samson and Adon, who would go on to star in their own sequels.

NEW+ Metal Slug (NEOGEO - 900 Points)
NEOGEO returns to Virtual Console with this all-time run ‘n’ gun favourite! Battle through waves of comical enemy troops, on foot or behind the wheel of the titular tank, rescuing POWs as you go. Heavy on laughs and on action, Metal Slug offers the ultimate arcade-style experience
.
NEW+ Puyo Puyo 2 (MegaDrive - 800 Points)
The quintessential head-to-head puzzle game from Japan, Puyo Puyo 2, pits you against a human or computer opponent as you arrange falling ‘Puyo’ into like-coloured chains, to send filler blocks to scupper your rival – before they do the same to you!

\o/ The long lost NEOGEO makes an appearance, AND with Metal Slug.

Who'd A Trumped It

, , ,

It should be a perfect match. Doctor Who is superb. Top Trumps are ace. It's just that a "virtual" game of Top Trumps: Doctor Who doesn't appeal. It's coming to the DS this Spring, and whilst they've tried their best to spice up the basic card game, I don't think Eidos will have a bestseller on their hands.

The game does boast a host of gameplay modes, and if you love the Good Doctor as much as my little brother, you'll probably be interested in getting this. Although the above screenshot is from the PS2/PC version, it gives you a taste of what the game will be like.

It features most of the characters from the new series, but if it hasn't got Sally Sparrow in it, I'm not buying...

Mario Kart Madness

, , , ...

We love the new Mario Kart here at N+. It seems we're not the only ones. There are a couple of threads in our forum that may interest those who are as addicted to the game as we are!

First up in the Friend Code thread, where a few of us have already posted our codes. We plan to have a weekly N+ Grand Prix which will take place on Sunday nights at 8pm GMT (20:00). If you fancy pitting yourself against other N+ members, post your code in the thread and log on at that time to join in with the fun! One of the mods should have opened a room for you to join. We'll also be using the N+ Chat Room to help communicate.

Next is a challenge laid down by sm197. He is a bit of a speed demon (and that's an understatement), and has started a Time Trial thread. Each week a new course will be chosen, and everyone can post their lap times.

In the future N+ will hopefully be running a special tournament, but more of this later...

Virt-Euro-L Console Friday

, , , ...

Woo! Another 3 games! NAVC in yo faces! Anyhoo... it's the return of the Hanabi Festival! \o/ That means we'll be getting some juicy Japanese and American exclusive games for the next few weeks.

NEW+ Columns III: Revenge of the Nerds Columns (SEGA MegaDrive - 900 Points)
Released in the U.S. in 1994 for the SEGA MEGA DRIVE, Columns III offers a single-player or multi-player experience that expands upon the gameplay of the first two Columns titles by giving players extra attacks to spring on their opponents. As in the original Columns, jewels fall into a column bin where gamers have to twist and manipulate them to match three or more jewels in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line to prevent them from stacking up and reaching the top. In Columns III, special magical jewels are available that influence the game in numerous ways such as raising your opponent’s crush bar or lowering yours, adding an extra element of strategy to the game.

NEW+ Final Destination Soldier (TurboGraFX - 700 Points)
Final Soldier, propels you to the 23rd century where you are Earth’s last line of defence against an unknown horde of alien invaders. Part of the celebrated ‘Star Soldier’ series, this action-packed vertical scrolling shooter puts you at the helm of a space fighter created by the finest scientists from across the globe. Armed to the teeth with an arsenal of weaponry you rise up against the enemy overwhelming them with lasers, flamethrowers and missiles, many of which can be upgraded to cause further devastation. Originally released for PC Engine (Turbografx) only in Japan.

NEW+ Gradius III (TurboGraFX - 900 Points)
GRADIUS II GOFER NO YABOU returns you to the helm of the legendary Vic Viper to overcome a new offensive from the Bacterion Empire. Originally only available on the PC Engine (Turbografx) console in Japan, this horizontally scrolling shooter challenges players to conquer the Bacterion’s fleet and its new leader, Gofer. With a total of nine stages, this perfect port of the original boasts one of the longest adventures in the series and also features more trademark fast-paced music to accompany the intense action!

Walk The Line - Line Rider DS In Action

, , ,

Here are a couple of vids featuring the DS version of Line Rider in action. I have a feeling that this will be the type of game that could eat away your free time and keep you amused forever.
