E3 has become a staple in gaming culture, evolving from a small convention where the gaming industry shows off their stuff to the press to a big convention where the old American practice of showboating and shock and awe takes center stage. Anything but a shocking presentation is considered subpar. Yesterday Nintendo delivered a presentation at E3: the one everyone waits for. Nintendo-- yesterday-- announced Animal Crossing: City Folk with Wii Speak (which we need to do something on), Wii Music, and Wii Sports Resort while showing off the new Wii Motion Plus they announced the day prior to the presentation. This year the common consensus is that the presentation and what was presented for the most part was garbage, and I can say that I agree.

Following the crazy success of
Wiimbledon, a Wii Sports tennis contest recently held in Brooklyn for the chance to win your own Wii, Steve Bryant, the mastermind behind Wiimbledon, has started plans to organize a Wii Sports Bowling league in New York.
Dubbed Wii Bowl NY, details are scarce, but we do have it's
website (dead link for now), as well as a quote from Bryant:
We expect it to be like a corporate softball league -- weekly games, three-person teams, played at various bars around the city. Probably start in September once everybody's back from vacation.
Sounds interesting, but why just NY? Why not start a Wii Bowling league all over the country? Heck, why not all over the world?

After seeing
last night's post about his scores, Nick decided to up the ante a bit this afternoon. Or like 81.
Now in the "Skill Level" range this time, clearly off the chart. Nice.
Nick, you need an Opera page. This is the 3rd news story about you and the only thing I have to link back to is
this, sadly.
UPDATE + Until Nick makes a my.opera page, his tag icon will be as it is above, a constant reminder.
This and more Mii images here.

NGCFrance is reporting on a rumor that Wii Sports 2 is in the works and may feature Swimming, Volleyball, Horseback Riding, and Hockey. Just remember, it's a rumor, but we all know Nintendo has to be working on something as a followup to the unprecidented success and praise the first game earned. Also rumored is online play, which seems only natural.
My prediction was a Wii Winter Sports with Winter Olympic style games. Think about having your own Curling team brushing the ice as you guide your [dumb heavy snork-like] puck down the lane as your Japanese competitors watch online, cursing your team's coordination and skill!
Anyone have any good ideas for more Wii Sports?

Nintendo Europe have brought together a "family", who aren't actually family or hardcore gamers, to illustrate how easy the Wii is to pick-up-and-play. As it's from the Official Nintendo site, it can only be taken with a pinch of salt, but it has some interesting parts (which I've
highlighted - some you may know already, some you may not).
If you're worried about spoilers on this particular game (well you never know) then turn away now.Read more...

There is a new site opened for the Wii golf game called
Pangya GolfThere's not too much on it at the moment, apart from a few new screenshot (which, if I may say so look LUSH), and some character pictures/profiles.
There is a lot of information still set to be released (as you can tell by the amount of greyed out options on the left), so if it's a game that you are interested in, it'll probably be worth checking out every so often.
The site can be found
here, and because they do look so nice, I have put the screenshots in the
Wii Screenshot gallery.

patch, sports, metroid, .ed
...
We have all seen many screens, movies, and stories on Metroid Prime 3 for Wii. Everyone expected it to launch with Wii in
October Mario's Birthday 2007 the Moon George Michael November, but now it seems to have been tossed back a few months.
Why? Well, several reasons:
- First, Nintendo's Launch is thick with great games already, and putting up another "AAA" title against The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess would split the sales figures.
- Second, having a strong launch is one thing, but as some of us remember with Nintendo 64, its the time just after launch that needs an even stronger software line-up to keep that momentum going.
- Also, with Europe getting the shaft on a later PS3 launch, Nintendo will need to strengthen thier March software offerings to keep sales steady.
- Finally, and most telling, is that there were strong rumors, and even a Nintendo/Retro Studios survey about the online component for the game. More specifically, if people would be willing to patch the game later for WiFi play, and if they would be willing to buy it sans WiFi play if it meant getting the game early. Responses clearly indicated that this game would have trouble if it did not include multiplayer from the get go.
With these things in mind, it is clearer why the game is not present on launch day. Hopefully it does include multiplayer when it hits store shelves later.
But Ed, what about the title of this post? You said Wii Sports! ...and WiFi!

Well, pour this into your thinking glass thirsty readers: Will Wii Sports include WiFi down the road? If it was [in theory] possible to patch Metroid Prime 3 to later allow multiplayer, wouldn't the same be true for Wii Sports? Think about the additions that could be made, and the suprise of seeing and having the option to save or offer Mii's for trade/copy to internet friends. The gameplay could take on a whole new perspective for both casual and hardcore gamers going for rank or 'skrimmish' and the buzz would be unavoidable.
What do you think? Should Nintendo look into adding WiFi multiplayer down the road? Should it just be another game altogether, like
Wii Sports 2: WiFi? Or do you think it is already in there and
wii just don't know it yet?

wii, sports, Pangya Golf, Controller
...
Famitsu have a sneak
teeser of the
forethcoming (you see what I did there) golf game for the Wii which goes by the name of
Pangya Golf. In a similar fashion to Wii Golf, which is included in the Wii Sports game, you use the Wii-mote to control the swing.
There are three steps to the swing process.
The first is setting up. Famitsu predict that the club selection and deciding where you strike the acatual ball will be done with the "+" and "-" buttons on the controller (and I reckon the D-Pad too), but the aiming will be the positioning of the controller itself.

The second step is the backswing, and this allows you to set the power of the shot.

The final step in the swing itself, and the smoothness of the downwards stroke will determine how well you strike the ball, and the effect it will have on the ball's flight.

The game also comes with a tutorial, which is handy. The instructions are flashed up onscreen to allow you to perfect your swing. A master
stroke, don't you think?

I also think it might be useful to carry around a spare Wii-mote, just in case you get a
hole-in-one. BOOM BOOM!
Anyhoo....
This game does look quite good, and a lot of fun. What I've seen of Nintendo's Wii Golf is that it's quite basic, and just gives a taster of what the Wii can do. Pangya golf seems to take this one step further, and it's less-than-serious approach to golf may win over a few fans.
