Nintendo Rewards Your Money Spending (At Least in the UK)

, , ,

Have you already spent good money buying one or more of the Metroid Prime games? And you're ready to give your pounds to Nintendo UK by purchasing the soon-to-be-released Metroid Prime Trilogy? Well, Nintendo thanks you. And this time, it's even ready to give you back some love: NES Metroid for free.

If you live in the UK and have a Club Nintendo registration, you already registered (and of course, purchased) any of the three previous Prime titles, and on top of that you're one of the first 5,000 gamers to buy and register the compilation title on your account, Nintendo will reward your money spending by giving you a free download code, which you can redeem for the VC NES title, Metroid (even though it is very likely that if you are such a Metroid fan you already own the title anyways).

VC 300th Game: Majora's Mask

,

Just thought you oughtta know

A few days after WiiWare had its birthday, Nintendo hits a new biggie with the release of its 300th Virtual Console downloadable game. And it's none other than the revered N64 classic, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (which, to be honest, a lot of fans out there were waiting for...)

UPDATE: Nintendo has also announced that, as of today, it will be allowing third-party title demos to be offered via the free DS Download service on the Wii.

Nintendo Subtly Hints at VC Surprise; Hint: It's Commodore 64

, , , ...

In the press release for today's VirtuNAL Console Update, Nintendo included a hint at some surprises coming to the Wii Shop Channel. Here's the text which was buried within the press release:

In other news, the Wii-kly Update has a fun surprise coming soon for all our fans. We can’t tell you the secret just yet but maybe we’ll offer you some hidden clues. From AZ to NC, if you’re a fan, your applause could rattle your walls, windows, door. You might enjoy this news whether you live in a brick house or Vanderbilt dorm. Even people living along Route 286 in rural Pennsylvania ought to be excited. It’ll feel like a bunch of birthday greetings and, really, who could ask for more? But that’s about all we can say for now, so be sure to check future Wii-kly Updates.

Luckily, the fine folks on the Internet (specifically users of VGChartz, were able to decipher this cryptic message pretty quickly. It certainly seems likely that Commodore 64 games are on the way to the North American Virtual Console. Evidence?

  • Brick House is a song by the Commodores.
  • There is a Commodore city in Pennsylvania just off of 286.
  • The song "When I'm 64" by The Beatles has a line that says: "who could ask for more?"
  • The Commodores are the mascot of Vanderbilt University.
  • Route 64 runs from Arizona to North Carolina.

So, it seems another surprise has been ruined by the Internet. Great job, guys! :D

Just in case you're curious, Commodore 64 games have been available on the European Virtual Console since March 2008.

Virtual Console

NEW+ Life Force (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points):

This classic shooter, originally ported to the NES in August 1988, is a spin-off of the seminal Gradius series. Pilot the Vic Viper through six stages of intense action, alternating between horizontally and vertically scrolling environments, and take on wave after wave of enemies. Destroy particular enemies throughout the game (which takes place within the body of an enormous alien) to release power-up capsules and equip your ship with your choice of more powerful weapons, extra speed and shields. Utilize the power-ups carefully, though, as a fearsome guardian lurks at the end of each stage and won't be easily defeated. You can go it alone or bring along a friend to take on the challenge simultaneously. Do you have what it takes to save your planet?

Japan Gets Another Goodie

, , , ...

How did enplusser Spook put it? "all 'good news' these past few weeks have been for Japan content only" - yeah, that sounds about right.

Hot off the heels of his comment on the Animal Crosing: Wii DLC news, here's another one for the land of the rising sun "Super Smash Bros 64" is headed to the Virtual Console in January. This should be a warm up for the rest of the world to expect that sometime in the future this title may be appearing on our Virtual Console lists.
