Miyamoto: "We're Making Pikmin", New Wave Race Coming

, , , , ,

Here's the quote, not verbatim, which -just- came out of the Nintendo Developer Roundtable.

I'll announce Pikmin when I'm ready. I'm ready now. We're making Pikmin.

FRIGIN MEGATON. More to follow.

Update: All information from the conference is after the break.

Bill Trinnen was first on the stage, announcing that Nintendo would be demoing Wii Sports Resort, Animal Crossing: City Talk, and Wii Music.

Tasia Yeguchi demoed the games and held question/answer sessions. Information on all of the games is below.

Animal Crossing: City Folk: Halloween is back from the GameCube version. Two new events: Carnival and and a visitor that hides painted eggs.

Wii Connect 24 will provide updates to furniture and wallpaper. In the city, there's a salon, an auction house, the "Happy Room Academy Office", a fashion store, and a theatre where you can watch comedy shows.

Friends can visit your city.

WiiSpeak accessory allows entire rooms to interact.

You can edit the front/back of shirts, as well as sleeves.

Save screenshots to SD cards, for transfer to PC or to be sent via the Wii Message Board.

If one player leaves a town, everyone is d/c'ed. Same as Wild World.

You can port characters/items from the DS to the Wii.

Use your DS to download items from real world locations, then transport those items to the Wii.

No playable NES games in AC.

No Forecast Channel interaction.

Wii Sports Resort: Set on a tropical island.

Control is lag free.

Twisting the remote works the throttle.

Swordfighting requires calibration, features very realistic movement.

B Button is used to block.

Unknown whether or not devs had access to MotionPlus before Monday's announcement.

Wii Sports Resort has turn-based multiplayer.

Approximately ten mini-games in the final version.

Wii Music: Miyamoto says it's more relaxed than other rhythm games.

60+ instruments in final game.

Don't have to watch the screen to play.

You can change arrangement, tempo, and send song to friends via WiiConnect24.

Accessible to students and mothers.

Lesson mode that can teach anyone to play the drums in "a few weeks".

50 songs, mostly public domain, some licensed.

More of a toy than a game.

Miscellaneous: Wave Race 64 team developed the mini-game in Wii Sports Resort. They are also working a new game that will "surpass Wave Race" and "exceed it in depth".

Nintendo hopes everyone will enjoy their games; core gamers are anyone who enjoys games, regardless of genre, as long as they're good.

Miyamoto will announce Pikmin 3 when he's ready. He's ready. "We're making Pikmin".

Wii Motion Plus offers no new functionality for old games.
