N+ Micro Review: Professor Layton And The Curious Village (DS)

, , ,

What is it?

A cross between Brain Training and Hotel Dusk. You must assist Professor Layton and his young sidekick Luke as they try and solve the mystery of the Curious Village. You will need to solve many, many puzzles and mind teasers in order to progress through the story.

How does it play?

It's a slow paced, text heavy game, but this shouldn't put you off. With over 130 puzzles to unlock and complete, it's a highly entertaining game. They story might be a bit bland, but the characters are interesting enough to make you want to see it through to its conclusion. The puzzles vary in difficulty, and there's a great feel of satisfaction when you solve them (especially with no hints). You can even download a new puzzle every week via the WFC. If you're a fan of puzzles and have a logical mind, this game should be on your wish list.

How is the story predictable? I won't spoil it but that HUGE revelation near the end is mental!

Predictable or not, I just love this game... I've played all through the puzzles and keep revisiting my favorites over and over... I even had all my friends cracking their heads with a few of the puzzles one night... Can't wait for the second installment!
BTW, I read somewhere that the downloadable puzzles aren't really downloadable at all!!! According to this DS hacker he found all the puzzles (including the downloadable ones) already in the cartridge and the download only gets the 'release code' for each puzzle... Also, if this is true and puzzles aren't really downloadable, the cartridge will run out of puzzles by the end of the year or something like that...

That's pretty interesting! I guess it makes sense, and I was wondering how long they would keep the downloads coming.

Probably just in time for the realease of Layton's next adventure  Still, it was kinda sad to find out that you weren't really downloading the content...hehehehehe
