Hitting The Gaming Wall

,

It happens to me every time I get a game. I'll play it non-stop for days, weeks, even. And then I'll just stop. I'll stop playing it, and I'll rarely play it again.

It doesn't matter what game it is, or even its quality. Take Mario Kart Wii, for example. For me it's probably the best game on the console, but I haven't touched it in months. I played it everyday for weeks when it was released, got into the tournaments, the online racing, and absolutely loved it.

And then I hit the wall.

For some reason I didn't play it for a couple of days, and that was it. It was resigned to the shelf, much like its DS brother.

The World Ends With You, is another great example. It is one of the best DS games I've played. I really got into the story, collecting the pins, levelling them up. I had high hopes of replaying the game, and clocking up a Pokémon Diamond-esque 100+ gaming hours. I was just about the start the final boss fight when I hit the wall. Again I didn't play it for a couple of days, and then struggled to get motivated to play it again.

Sure, I haven't got as much time to play games nowadays, especially not the TV-hogging Wii, but it makes me sad that I seem to lack the desire to play a game through to completion. It puts me off buying new games, as I think "Why bother? I'll play it for a week and then stop". I'm racking up a collection of unplayed games that I know I should sell. But I remember them being good, and there's always a thought in the back of my mind that tells me "Don't sell it, you may play it again one day". But I know I won't.

My gaming collection will become full of party games, fun to play with friends, because this is the only time I want to play them. At least then I will feel justified in spending money on them. My DS is dusty, and my Wii wants attention. The Mysterious Blue Light of Eerie Goodness tells me this.

Yes, I'm quickly approaching the big 3-0, but I surely can't be alone in this? Is anyone else hitting the gaming wall?

dude. seriously. AW:DoR for DS is so hard it scares me from playing anymore.

and I DID get back into Mario Galaxy tot ry and finish Luigi Galaxy, but i rarely get a star or two and call it a day. i have to not play for a week or two, but when i jump the wall its with a huge jump! I will defeat entire observatories before i am satisfied. other games take a while to come back but when they do - dyNOmite!

Pokemon crystal is getting played almost every day for at least 4 hours on my GBC.
