Wii're Tired of Waiting

, , , , ,

According to a press conference held today, the Wii's online functionality will have to wait. While the Wii Shop Channel will be available immediately, only 12 games will be up at launch. They plan to add games every Monday after launch until the new year. The Weather/Forecast Channel won't be accessible until December 20th, and the News Channel makes its round on January 27th.

No one knows when the Opera Web Browser will be available for download. Hopefully SOON... or else.

It certainly detracts from the everything-out-of-the-box experience I was hoping for. A disappointment, indeed, but a mild one. I mean, if we have waited this long... what's another month or two, right?--especially when we have the Legend of Zelda to keep us occupied.

That is a bit annoying, but it does mean that there's less "setting-up" to do on day one. More time to get down to the nitty gritty gaming and Mii-making.

it also garuntees that as these services launch, each neatly a few weeks after the other, it will garuntee that they all get fresh internet news coverage without getting lost in the initial splurge of news at launch... i say it's a smart tactic.

a smart tactic is the two-day-after-launch-steal-the-thunder-from-the-bad-guys-sunday-release!

hahahaha! that coupled with the new found bad guys additional last minute allocation cut, and the "i don't play well on all HDTV, so much in fact that our games max out were we ourselves said isn't good at all". syndrome, and the overheating issue, and the, "sorry we really aren't backwards compatible with all of our older generation games after all". - I would say the bad-guys had a bad-day.

Don't forget the

"Don't forget your wheelbarrow so you can carry it to the car" tactic.
That one's always a winner in my book.

I love how a bunch of crappy thugs got shot waiting for PS3, but everyone will be embracing joyfully in the wii line singing theme songs in harmony and sharing nostalgic stories of past gaming experiences over cups of hot cocoa.

When I waited for the priiorder, there were a few PS3 guys there. One of them decided to only wear a ripped T-shirt and had to run to the walmart next door and buy a coat to stay warm. All the wii people shared their excitement, while the PS3 guys all made educated guesses at how much their prize would sell for on eBay.

Nintendo fans are so much better.
This weekend: sony = pwned
