IkkiTousen is manga by Yūji Shiozaki loosely based on the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, first publishing in 2000 and still ongoing.
It was adapted in four anime series and in several games.

IkkiTousen or in US named by Tokyopop, Battle Vixens (really bad name), is manga based on the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Yūji Shiozaki
What is IkkiTousen? It is, school girls + martial arts + ecchi + humor = Really funny manga with great characters, story and art.

However, those owners, known as Toushi, are possessed with an insatiable appetite for battle. Hakufu Sonsaku is one such Toushi. Living in the country, Hakufu's desire to beat something to a pulp goes unfulfilled until her mother tells her to go to Tokyo, where she starts training with other Toushi and sets foot on the path to her destiny. It is the first season and was made by animation production J.C. Staff in 2003, the firs broadcasting in Japan was from 2003-07-30 to 2003-10-22.

Plot Summary: Seven schools are constantly 'at war' with each other, and the students within - both male and female - have become skilled fighters and constantly battle with rival schools. Their lives and fates are guided by strange jewels that contain the spirits and destinies of warriors from the Sangokushi period. One girl, Sonsaku Hakufu, has recently moved to Japan and is apparently destined to unite the schools as her counterpart united seven countries long ago. But, like all heroes, there is a darker side to her fate, and as always there is a constant struggle by those around her to break the chains of their own destinies and make their own lives. Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny
The second season of IkkiTousen was made by animation production ARMS in 2007 with first broadcast in Japan from 2007-02-26 to 2007-05-14

Character Design: Rin Sin
Plot Summary: Loosely based on the novel 'Romance of the three kingdoms', modern day Japan sees a similar struggle for power between different rival schools with the three strongest being; Kyosho Academy led by Sousou Moutoku, Nanyo Academy by Sonsaku Hakufu and Ryuubi Gentoku from Seito High School. Together these three tousei, each with their own mangatama, fight for the honour of becoming ikki tousen and fulfilling their fated destiny through battle and conquest. (source: ANN)

Ikkitousen: Great Guardians
Great Guardians is the third season of IkkiTousen made by the same animation production as Dragon Destiny, ARMS in 2008. The first broadcast was from 2008-06-11 to 2008-08-27 in Japan.

Character Design: Rin Sin
Plot Summary: Preparing for the battles to come, tournaments and to fight against new opponents from over the world, Hakufu is working to have enough money to make her dream true. But she doesn't consider that old and new allies and enemies will come to scene, and also being a weak leader to the eyes of her companions. A sister also appears. She doesn't even know her mom's past so better to start from the local stuff before attempting to go worldwide. (source: ANN)

Ikkitousen: Xtreme Xecutor
It is the fourt season of IkkiTousen. Made by animation production TNK with assistance of ARMS. The broadcast was from 2010-03-26 to 2010-06-11 in Japan.

Character Design: Rin Sin, Gotou Junji
Plot Summary: The main fighters are summoned to a tournament that involves the heads of all the schools. But some of the heads send their trust fighters in their place. They don't realize that the tournament is just the face of a conspiracy to take over the clans. Hakufu now has a disciple as crazy and skilled as her and due to her laziness the disciple ends on the tournament in the place of her master. Now they must prove that the destiny imposed by the souls of the fighters living in their own is not always an absolute law. (source: ANN)

Ikkitousen: Shining Dragon was first game based on IkkiTousen. Only Japanese version. It is a 3D fighting game developed and published by Marvelous.

My short review:
  • This is the first IkkiTousen game and i think it could be better. You can play with 11 characters. Nice is that you can "buy" moves and rise the level of characters. I think the biggest weakness of this game is the graphic and control. You can play: Story Mode, Mission Mode, My Cosplay Mode and Everyone Cosplay Mode
  • Graphic: 65%
  • Sound: 70%
  • Story: n/a (my Japanese is very, very weak)
  • Control: 75%
  • Overall: 70%
  • Fun: 80%





Ikkitousen: Eloquent Fist

Second game based on IkkiTousen. It is 2D fighting game developed and published by Marvelous. Only Japanese version, but PSP games are region-free, so you can buy it and play.

  • never played this one, but i think it is almost the same as Xross Impact, but with 16 characters.





Ikkitousen: Xross Impact

The third and for now last game for consoles. Like the previous game this is also 2D fighting game developed and published by Marvelous. Only Japanese version, but PSP games are region free, so you can buy it and play.

My short review:
  • I think it is very simple game, but you can play with many (22) characters from IkkiTousen and you beat with them mods of enemies. It is very addicting and there is a little RPG element that it makes even better. With higher level of character are opened new combos and you can "buy" more attack/defense powers or tricks. You can play: Story Mode, Arcade Mode and Challenge mod.
  • Graphic: 65% (when you like 2D 90%)
  • Sound: 75%
  • Story: n/a (my Japanese is very, very weak)
  • Control: 95%
  • Overall: 78% (87%)
  • Fun: 90%

Unlock a character:
- Sonsaku Hakufu (ryuu) - beat Nanyou story mode on normal or hard
- Ryuubi Gentoku (ryuu) - beat Seito story mode on normal or hard
- Moutoku Sousou (ryuu) - beat Kyoshou story mode on normal or hard
- Ato - beat all tree story modes on normal or hard
- Ryufu Housen - beat Moutoku Sousou's arcade mode on any difficulty
- Shiba'i Chuutatsu - beat Ato's arcade mode on any difficulty
- Ukitsu - beat Shiba'i Chuutatsu's arcade mode on any difficulty
