Opera Mini 5 beta for Android phones

01-06-2010: Minor update to reflect UA string change

Hot on the heels of our native Opera Mini client for Windows Mobile phones, we have now released a beta of Opera Mini 5 for Android. I've been using Opera Mini for the last couple of days on a Nexus One, and must say the browsing speed and experience are quite amazing.

It's worth pointing out that the UA string for Opera Mini has changed recently:

Opera/9.80 (Android; Opera Mini/5.0.18302/18.684; U; en) Presto/2.4.15

As you can see, our servers now run Presto 2.4 to render pages before they are sent to the client, which means that things like multiple background images, background-origin and word-wrap now work on Mini. We're currently constructing an overview table to show which of the latest standards are supported on Mobile, Mini and desktop, and plan to share it with you soon. Stay tuned :-)

In the meantime, let us know your thoughts about Opera Mini on Android!
