Opera Desktop 10.51 is out and fast

Fastest Browser

Opera 10.51 final for Windows is out now and is truly the fastest browser on earth.

Opera 10.50 has already proven to provide users with a super-quick experience. Based on Peacekeeper's benchmark results, Opera 10.51 for Windows takes the clear lead with a 27% increase in speed from our most recent version.

peacekeeper benchmark shows Opera 10.51 being the fastest

In this release, we have pushed to get as many fixes into 10.51, largely due to the terrific community feedback provided on 10.50. Thank you for your participation! If you'd like more details on exactly what we've done, see the Opera 10.51 Windows release change logs

For the curious minds, the machine specification that hit the highest benchmark score across all tested browsers is shown below.

Most compliant JavaScript

Apart from bug fixes, we have also done numerous improvements to the Carakan JavaScript engine.

Sputnik - a new JavaScript conformance test suite produced by Google Labs, shows that Opera passes more tests that adhere to the ECMA-262 specification than other browsers compared.

How about Unix and Mac?

We are not leaving our Unix and Mac friends behind, we already have snapshots for Unix 10.51 (albeit not final yet) and Mac closely follows with this snapshot.

Now, try it out!

RachidRachidNL Monday, March 22, 2010 12:30:56 PM

Damn... the fastest system according to Peacekeeper matches my system specs (apart from the beta OS)!

I'm gonna take the performance crown; watch me! bigsmile

It's still has a bad memory management.
You can't use it for long, Just like FF 2.0.

Opera for UNIX systems is going through quite a change in integration. Same goes for Mac. On Windows, there was not that much to be integrated (although there still is some things).

In meantime, head on over to the desktop team blog and get a UNIX snapshot smile

There's no "delay". The Linux version just requires a lot more work because it's a bigger rewrite than the other platforms, and Linux is fragmented and frankly quite sucky when it comes to being consistent.

Cutting Spoonhellspork Monday, March 22, 2010 5:13:48 PM

To see the record jump from 10034(Chrome) to 13011(Opera)....

Some of the Linux users would disagree

There are different kinds of Linux from what I know and it takes time to adjust the code to work in the different integrations.

On the Mac end from what I know they are rewriting it

The OS that was used was 64bit Win 7 Pro and NOT beta.
Peacekeeper still belives that all win7 are betas. cool

That's my score so I can tell you 100% sure:

Неправда ваша. Как раз в 10.5x user-friendly уделили больше внимания, чем когда-либо (имхо).

@Windows 98 A browser does not determine your download speed it is how much bandwidth can (or is allowed) to come through on the Internet where you do the tests

Anonymous Monday, March 29, 2010 3:25:53 PM

Windows 98 Pentium II writes: @Charles Schloss In general, that's not true. Download speed depends: 1. as you said, on "how much bandwidth can (or is allowed) to come through on the Internet where you do the tests", which was basically a constant on my tests for a given time/website. 2. on the PC that I use (including the browser). Why? Because some PCs can be not enough fast to use all the bandwidth that they have available. And speed will also depend on the browser itself as is a proven fact (by me). And you can check yourself if you have an older 300 Mhz PC, and a rather fast ADSL connection about 8 Mbps or more.

The same issue pops up so frequently, we could perhaps need another infamous msimg32.dll prompt.
