I saw the movie years ago.

Back to the war, you know Italians invaded Russia as well. At some point the italian army, very poorly equipped for the russian winter and without their own transports, since they were depending on the Germans, were going to be surrounded by the advancing Russians, who had broken the too long front lines. As result the Italians had no choice but starting to retreat by walking in the Russian plain all the way back home, trying to escape the blockcage. Most soldiers died or simply disappeared in the snow during the retreat because of the cold, the lack of food and shelter, wounds and of course the attacks from all the sides by the Russians. Sadly many were also taken prisoners and died afterwards due to the very hard conditions in the russian camps. After the war some of the few survivors wrote popular books about those events.
