My husband smokes and sometimes throws them out by the front door. When we are doing yard work, guess who is picking them? Me.

Just hate it!!!

I think that if one chooses to discard cigarette butts in a casual, "the world is my ashtray" fashion, it ought to be a law that one MUST smoke unfiltered, or "straight" cigarettes. The benefits of this would be:
1) The butts are self-consuming if they land in a place where they are not extinguished,
2) Even if extinguished, the butts are biodegradable,
3) The smoker will likely die sooner, thus ridding the rest of us of the problems of his or her smoking.

As a further, not necessarily relevant note, deer love cigarettes, and will eat them out of your hand. Straights are recommended, but if filters are present, please break them off and put them in your pocket; they are indigestible, and you can use them at home for cleaning the graphite dust from your freshly-sharpened drawing pencil lead.

A very important issue actually. Throwing those filters away like that really reflects what kind of person you have beside you too. If you're not responsible concerning small things, you might not be responsible for bigger things in the rest of your life either...

Maybe if they dumped all those cigarette butts in those smokers' houses, wonder if they would think twice about dumping them on the pond.

Ну... вообще у нас в городе стало почище. Раньше все было намного хуже. А мой муж после пары поездок за границу перестал кидать окурки куда попало. Теперь если некуда бросить он может даже бросить их себе в карман, но никак не на землю :-)

I saw a guy trying to hide a burning joint of marijuana that way, once. He had been stopped by a cop for a traffic violation. It didn't work ... the burning jacket gave him away.

When you have seen a lot of friends dying from lung cancer you can understand why it is important to stop smoking. Very kind regards to you ,Olga.

I used to be a smoker. If I couldn't find an ashtray, I would hold onto it until I found a garbage. Clearly most people aren't that considerate.

I am, too, Olga! I've not smoked for about 4 years now.
