Baghras Castle - Gaston

, ,

Looks a bit scary, doesnt it? wink

Not so scary though! wink

Please, meet medival Bagras castle situated not so fasr from Antakya. During the Crusader era it was known as Gaston Castle. Too abd nobody was so brave to go up there with me so I tried to go alone. That`s why I didnt go too far... it was so windy and dark rooms scared me. I was afraid to step even lol But i did my best to take some pictures for you! wink

The medieval castle was built in 1153 by the Templar Knights, a military order which supported the effort of the Crusades, to protect the Principality of Antioch from a new Byzantine attack.
If you are interested in history you can find information here and here.

"Mummy is back!" This is how Savaya was happy when I was back! lol

Looking through the pictures I regret so much that I didnt go inside.... sad I have to go back there and not to be so scary!!!

If I could get there, I'd go up with you ... It looks very well-engineered, well-designed. I like siege architecture, and how they thought through everything.

Oh I love castles! That sounds so cool to see a thing like that! smile I'm sure you will have another chance to check it out. There is a fort near here that has a room they say was just an equipment room but it's so spooky and weird feeling I think it was a prison room.

That is good you tried anyhow cool

Oh wonderful photos. I love castles! I would have gone inside with you. But I would have made sure I was wearing a hat so the bats wouldn't hit me in the head.

der WandersmannderWandersmann Sunday, June 19, 2011 1:48:00 PM

Pam, bats don't ever seem to hit people in the head, or get tangled in long hair. I think they come close to people's heads because the hair gives such odd echoes ... sorta there, sorta not there, if you know what I mean ... that they are interested ... they're investigating. Well, that's my theory, anyhow.

PainterWoman Monday, June 20, 2011 4:11:35 PM

I don't know where I got the idea they'd hit me in the hit...movies perhaps? They do tend to fly very erratically. We had some living in small caves in the mountains near where I used to live in Phoenix. They'd come out at sunset and zig zag about getting bugs. Occasionally, they'd swoop down and skim the pool to grab a wasp floating on the water. They did come close enough to hear their wings swoosh as they flew by.
