The Apostle's Story: A Short Bio Of The Apostle Johnnie Washington

Apostle Johnnie Washington was born on March 3, 1929 in a small, mostly African-American town known as Mound Bayou, which is located in the Mississippi Delta. He was the eldest of Rufus and Ida Belle Washington.

As an adult, Washington moved to New Orleans, and eventually made his way to New York City where he found himself singing with a gospel group. It was not until he fully surrendered his life to the LORD, that GOD saved and delivered him. He settled in a church in Brooklyn, under the guidance of Bishop Garner. He felt the calling of GOD and preached his first sermon at St. Mary Church of Christ in Brooklyn, NY.

After much prayer and seeking the LORD, he felt that GOD was calling him to a much higher calling, and in 1968, he opened his first church in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. This facility would soon become too small as the church grew rapidly. They were forced to find a larger dwelling for the newly-formed Tabernacle Of Prayer For All People congregation.

In 1976, Apostle Washington started a tent ministry on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Hopkinson Avenue in Brooklyn. Each year, new converts were saved and many joined the church, then located at 503 Glenmore Avenue.

In the summer of 1977, the Lowes Valencia Corporation donated a 3500 seat theater to the Tabernacle Of Prayer For All People. This historic building was erected in the 1920s and was located in the heart of Jamaica, NY. GOD began to prove Himself once again, and on Sunday, October 16, 1977, The Tabernacle Of Prayer For All People moved into their newly renovated building.

As the years progressed, Apostle Johnnie Washington expanded his ministry through radio programs and televised broadcasts around the USA and abroad. Many churches and pastors joined forces with this powerful Man of GOD.

On April 22, 1986, Apostle Washington closed his eyes and went home to be with the LORD at the age of 57. Over the short span of his life, many souls were born into the Kingdom Of GOD.
