If you are getting the "shutdown timer" you may have to open a dos window (START / RUN / type: CMD) and type in the dos command [shutdown -a]. Do not press enter yet... wait for the timer to pop up. Once it does press enter and it will abort the shutdown. It will come back so leave your dos window up and press the "up" arrow key to auto-enter the command and wait for the timer to pop up again. Meanwhile disable system restore, update your antivirus and run a FULL scan.
To give the computer time to scan without having to stand over it repeating the command, this time type in [shutdown -i] to bring up the "remote shutdown dialog box". Click on "add" and type the name of your computer in the field and then click the "OK". Change the time to ALL 9s to allow the maximum amount of time before the shutdown or restart and type a reason at the bottom (required). Click "OK" and that should give your computer plenty of time to scan and find the viral components.
