The Conficker Working Group (Great site to check out!)

The Conficker Working Group is a website that I plucked from a Microsoft Alert email. The site is cool and also have a cool "Conficker Eye-Chart". The Eye-Chart is a simple test that I believe was created by Joe Stewart that allows you to see if you are infected.

Since the Virus will try to stop you from accessing certain sites and areas of the web, Joe was able to break the science down to the variants. You have to check it out... pretty smart.

Another something that is worth mentioning is the GhostNet. Genious! Read the article below to get an idea of how "sophisticated" these virus and computer attacks are getting. As it was stated in the article, "By the time we get a sample, it can be too late. They've already gone and morphed into another variant," he said. "There's no end in sight."- Joe Pasqua (vice president of research at Symantec Research Labs)

Pirate Bay on Facebook... Beware Users..

NewYorkCountryLawyer writes "According to a report I just read in Mashable, Pirate Bay is coming to Facebook. Writer Ben Parr says that The Pirate Bay site now includes links under torrents to 'Share on Facebook.' Once posted to a profile, the Facebook member's friends can click the link on Facebook to begin the download right away, provided he or she already has a torrenting client installed. I just hope people do not use this feature to download copyrighted materials which are not authorized to be downloaded, or at least not materials copyrighted to litigation-happy RIAA Big 4 record labels. No doubt, if their song files were downloaded through this method, the record companies would sit back for awhile, derive profit from the promotional excitement generated for their dying industry, and then -- armed with Facebook's data -- sue the pants off all the hapless Facebook users who fell for it."

Chrome wins the "unhackable".

Even though I love ie, after a competition to hack in the more popular browsers, Chrome was the one that stood to the test. Btw- as far as the mobile platforms... None of them were hacked... *sigh*.

Internet Explorer 8 released!

I'm excited although I have been using the beta version of the browser. Microsoft IE8 offers more security and private browsing. Will it be a big hit with the public? Um.... We will see.

Linux... My new toy OS!

... I know that some of you Linux users want to kill me for saying "toy" but the fact is Linux is and will always be the most stable OS out. Not to mention... Free! Anyways I call it my toy because I am a noob when it comes to this OS. I have been learning a great deal on how to utilize the backend of the system and I enjoy a new challenge. Off the record... If not for the fact that I HAVE to use windows for my job, I would load Linux on my laptop and use that for a solid year with no options so that I can speed up my learning process. Right now I run Linux via VMware and use a USB loaded version. Maybe down the road that will flip around. That way I can function fully via Linux and still do my job with windows but for now I give Linux 2 thumbs up!

Adobe soon to patch hole in security

Adobe said that they will not patch the reader/acrobat issue until wednesday the 11th. Make sure that you update! As of now you can still be infected if you open "the wrong PDF". Just FYI...

Get ready for Bloodhound.PDF.6 (Trojan.Pidief.E).. Symantec Def

There is a security issue with Adobe Reader and Acrobat 7, 8, 9. This security issue would allow a door to running malicious code on your computer system. Adobe IS working on a patch but it will be a while. They have spoken to Symantec (Norton Antivirus Company) and Symantec has named the infection “Trojan.Pidief.E” in its virus database. Your Antivirus will update and start to watch for it but in the mean time you should disable “JAVA” in the preferences of your Adobe program.

IMPORTANT: Do not open PDF attachments from people you do not know!! I know that some of you also like “preview” mode on your email… that will also be something that would work against you because if your computer “previews” it… you OPENED it just the same.

HERE’S HOW YOU DISABLE JAVA-SCRIPT IN ADOBE:
1.Either open a PDF that you have already or go to Start/ programs/ adobe/…
2.Once the program is open, at the top click on EDIT and choose PREFERENCES at the bottom of the list.
3.Click on JavaScript on the left side and then UNCHECK “Enable Acrobat JavaScript”. That’s it…click OK and close.
