(Almost) a years worth of Lovefilm
Wednesday, February 8, 2012 5:19:50 AM
It's been a while since a Lovefilm catch-up and since I'm up early with flu type feelings here's a quick(ish) blog catch-up. I've just copied and pasted this, so it goes from most recent to least recent.
Arthur (5961) 7 February 2012 Write a review
From my list - Arthur remake starring Russell Brand - not bad - got better as it went along.
Beastly (5418) 30 January 2012 Write a review
From Woodys list - re-telling of Beauty and the Beast - I didn't watch. Woody absolutely loved. Watched it twice. Now wants to own.
You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (3231) 26 January 2012 Write a review
From my list - Woody Allen film I missed. Okay but ended before I felt the story was over. Better than "Whatever Works" which preceded it and which I couldn't make it all the way through.
Red Riding Hood (7908) 20 January 2012 Write a review
From Woodys list - re-telling of "Red Riding Hood" unsurprisingly. I started watching but didn't like. Woody did but not as much as "Beastly."
Chalet Girl (6234) 7 January 2012 Write a review
From Woodys list - A romantic comedy. Woody felt this was rather poor and disappointing. I saw bits of it.
Tangled (17,865) 21 December 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - A Disney film - I did actually watch this and enjoyed. A good romp!
A Christmas Carol (8750) 14 December 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list (do you see a pattern emerging here?) - Surprisingly grim "rotoscoping" or "motion capture" as it's called now telling of the classic tale. Tough going.
Hot Tub Time Machine (13,445) 8 December 2011 Write a review
Actually from my list - I enjoyed this romp. Woody didn't particularly.
Gulliver's Travels (15,477) 29 November 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - Another I also watched. 'Salright.
Attack the Block (14,951) 2 November 2011 Write a review
From my list - Joe Cornish's debut movie - A good'un too.
Bandslam (5678) 14 October 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - Another tweenie type film, I think. I don't know. I didn't watch it.
Vampires Suck (6310) 20 September 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - Pants!
Dreamgirls (26,067) 22 August 2011 Write a review
From my list - Had seen this before but just fancied seeing it again. Not as good as I remembered but still enjoyable.
The Chronicles of Narnia - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (18,654) 16 August 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - Didn't watch
Furry Vengeance (5460) 16 August 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - Oh, I remember this now. I did watch it. Featured that Brendan Fraser guy, as a bad man, who becomes a good man eventually after being tortured by animals. Not bad as these things go.
Burke and Hare (16,118) 8 August 2011 Write a review
From my list - Comedy film about grave-robbers. Lacking something - not sure what.
Remember Me (24,866) 19 July 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - That bloke from the Twilight films stars in it. I watched this and liked it I think, although can't remember anything about it now, other than it's utterly bizarre ending.
The Social Network (58,755) 6 July 2011 Write a review
From my list - re-telling of the Facebook story. Very interesting.
Dr Quinn Medicine Woman - A Heart Within (61) 28 June 2011 Write a review
Dr Quinn Medicine Woman - The Movie (99) 23 June 2011 Write a review
Both from Woodys list - Neither watched by me. One was better than the other Woody said, don't know which.
Four Lions (30,368) 9 June 2011 Write a review
From my list - Entertaining and funny.
Boys And Girls (2194) 19 May 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list (I think) - Can't remember anything about this one at all. Okay - just looked it up. Freddie Prinz Jr stars. I did watch this. Think it was alright although lacking something.
Nativity (6108) 10 May 2011 Write a review
From Woodys list - Totally unrealistic (but then me and Woody know schools!) and not as good as it thinks it is.
Sesame Street - Old School Vol.1 (16) Write a review
Sesame Street - Old School Vol.1 - Disc 3 9 June 2011
Sesame Street - Old School Vol.1 - Disc 2 12 May 2011
Sesame Street - Old School Vol.1 - Disc 1
Hey - these are all from my list - and jolly entertaining they were too.
That's it - you may now continue onwards with your lives.

The Narnia one was when we were in a beach resort on the East coast, I think. That time we had already had a bath and were falling asleep on the bed when we found it was just starting on some channel. JazzMoss wanted to watch it more than me, and I'm not sure if I made it to the end.
Despite "hating" Woody Allen (for his bordering-on-incestuous dirty-old-man lifestyle) JazzMoss has found herself liking a lot of his films once she actually tried to watch them. So it was quite surprising when *she* told *me* to watch You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger! Quite good too, I would agree. She didn't like Whatever Works at all though - mostly because it's about someone and his bordering-on-incestuous dirty-old-man lifestyle...
It took a few months of me pushing, but over Christmas we finally checked out, and really got into, Curb Your Enthusiasm. After a few episodes of nagging discomfort on her part, I pointed out that the main character is the same guy in Whatever Works. Nevertheless we finished all eight seasons in less than a month (last episodes on the bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur), so I think Larry David is forgiven now.

Flight of the Conchords is my favourite exported comedy show. (or should that be imported - foreign!)
Your holiday sounds rather luxurious you lucky so and so!! Sounds jolly nice.
I felt similarly to Jazz about "Whatever Works" actually, which may be why I didn't make it through it. Just thought it wasn't very respectful and not very funny (if memory serves correctly.) It was actually on telly when we were house sitting at my parents one day recently so I recorded it on their Sky Plus for me to give another chance. Then my parents watched it, assumed I'd already seen it and then deleted it. They said they really enjoyed it. (They seem to prefer his more comedy ones - they also seemed to like "Scoop" more than I did.)
The only other one I've not managed to sit all the way through is the one with Ewen Mcgregor and that famous Australian whose name escapes me.
Woody has not been converted at all to Woody. She saw "Vicky Christina" at a cinema with me but felt it was a bit too much of a male fantasy (mainly cos of the lesbian bits towards the end - I didn't mind them personally
Maybe I should inflict some earlier Woody on her. She'd just read her book though - there's no point!

All fun, though. I will try to get a blog posted some time soon... Don't think I ever did do it for our last trip out there - but then the pictures for that one were more private since it was all about our wedding celebration.
